I was having major problems with my computer constantly crashing, and I was advised to re-install my MAC OS 10.5 original disc to get a new system. I forgot to backup my important files and folders. Now I need to print my resume that I saved, it has been deleted completely. I do not even have a hard copy to refer to. I cannot remember what was on it in order to make another one. View 1 Replies View RelatedI accidentally moved "My Pictures" folder from the My Favorites sidebar in Finder, and I can no longer find the folder. I've searched "all my files" for a My Pictures folder and nothing has come up, not even in the trash (that I haven't yet emptied). I am wondering if there is anyway of getting this folder back, as I had several pictures and folders organized within that My Pictures folder. All of my pictures are somewhere still on my computer but even they are hard to locate now without them being in any folder. Would be difficult to have to re-organize every single thing that was in that folder.

I think it has something to do with 'permissions' as when I run the disk utility and repair the permissions it reports that the JVM location permissions are fixed. It then lauches the first time, but not a second time?
FWIW, I'm running eclipse in a user/Applications folder and the user account permissions are for just a user.
So, I have a working eclipse install providing I run the disk repair utility each time before launching it, but it is a little tedious.
After performing a Time Machine restoration, the "Places" list in the Finder sidebar contains a folder icon that can not be selected or deleted. It does not appear on the list of places to show in Finder Preferences, so there is nothing to uncheck. How do I get rid of this erroneous icon?

MBP 2006 2.0 with SL 10.6 started acting goofy over the weekend, so I C booted SL install disc and reinstalled. Machine now runs fine and all my stuff is still here, but I am no longer an Administrator and can't get it to boot from C drive or let me into Restart/SL, as I'm not an administrator. So I can't use the disc drive or change anything.
I'm the original/only owner and have never entered an Administrator password anywhere, just my login as a user. Is there a way to get it to allow the disc in so I can clear up the passwords?
Safari suddenly stopped working today and would only give me an error message saying that it could not be opened because of a problem, and that it needed to be reinstalled. I tried reinstalling OS X Lion, with the built in Lion recovery in the macbook air, but it is still not working. Based on reading other discussion I'm thinking that it might be malware, but the error message they are reporting is not similar to the one I am getting now. Stupidly I didn't check it properly, so I don't know what the error message was before I resinstalled OS, but now it reads:

The crashes keep on coming, so I bought Mackeeper and it told me that my system was clean but it still crashes. Most of the crashes happen while on the internet either watching "blink box" or shifting between sites. Mackeeper automatically checks my internet security and I am at a loss at to what is causing it. It is always a kernel (panic attack) and the screen always goes gray as the line comes down. Does anyone know what is happening.

Once I did, everything is working fine until I do the software updates. Safari even looks like it's from 2008 lol. The issue is, it downloads the updates fine, but once it restarts and begins the actual install, it gets to the point where it's "Configuring update" and completely stops in it's tracks. I've tried letting it do its thing and walked away, because maybe it would actually take a while but no, the blue progress bar is in the same exact point. So I'm stuck with leopard 10.5.2

I had recently attempted to uninstall Native Instruments FM8, and in an effort to do so, ran searches through my system Library folder and my user Library folder to find anything related to the software and remove them. Found around 100 preset sound files related to FM8, sent them to the trash and emptied the trash (not securely). Then after removing every file as listed on NI's website, restarting my computer, and running another Finder search in my Library folder, the sound files I had deleted earlier appear in the Finder search! However, right-clicking the files and selecting Get Info shows no directory for the file, and the files are unable to be deleted or have permissions modified.Â
I have already used the Disk Utility to repair disk permissions, but these phantom files still remain in my Finder search !Â

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have both my gmail accounts set up with teh Mail app on my Macbook Pro , I went ahead and deletd a bunch of files, some that contain attachements and I emptied the trash, they appear to be gone, not really, if i restart the computer and start up Mail again and click the ALL MAIL box all the emails show up again!! and if i search a phrase or name via Spotlight all the emails show up again! I want the emails gone for good, I went into Mail Prefrerence and checked/unchecled all the necessary tabs, I also checked that I dont want messages saved offline, FYI when I check the email inbox via browser www.google.com / gmail teh emails arent there but they seem to be stored on my mac.
