In the last few weeks my Macbook has started be begin freezing at seemingly random intervals. It is a 2008 Macbook, not a Macbook Pro or Macbook Air. At first this was only once a day, or once every other day, but it has gotten progressively worse. By today, I can't go more than 2 or 3 hours without it freezing, forcing me to manually restart the computer. The freezing is not application specific; once it freezes with one application, if I try to pull up anything on the menu bar, the menu bar proceeds to freeze. I haven't made any recent major changes to the computer, and it had been working perfectly fine before now. I'm working on scanning it in case it is a virus, but this is seeming increasingly unlikely.

So I even followed some tips from a previous discussion up here somewhere in this forum and still haven't succeeded.... When I tried the Option key at the startup chime, I got an padlock icon and underneath it there was a box like to enter a pass code with an right arrow tab next to it...

Whenever I open my mac mini it comes up with the same message "You need to restart your computer hold down the power button or press restart" in four different languages.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just brought my computer from work to my home and now it's freezing. The G4 running osx 10.4.. freezes about 15 seconds after each restart. The screen is still active but mouse/keyboard is frozen. If it is kept on after a few minutes the computer starts to get very loud, with all the fans working overtime.
I've tried opening it and making sure everything is seated and plugged in well.
Tried different mouse and keyboard.
Tried running disk permissions.
Tried starting to run scripts but can't get to then before the comp freezes.
Tried safe mode but it still freezes too.
Any ideas or do i need to go back to the office and get the restore disk and start over reinstalling anything?
when occurs a suspension of hard drive activity, manually or after a period of inactivity, this suspension seems to be incomplete (a ventilator continue to run) therefore my mac (power-mac G5, OS 10.4.11) is unable to restart, no possible action from the keyboard (I must shut down and restart)

My friend has an iBook that keeps freezing. This startup screen appears every time. Though I have seen it before, it never reoccurred for me.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy 2011 21.5 inch iMac keeps freezing. Strangely, the trackpad works but nothing on the screen reacts to moving the cursor around or clicking anywhere. requiring a restart (using the power button on the back). Â
When I then restart, I get an immediate error message saying "A graphics problem has been detected" and enables me to report the problem, which I do.Â
However, this happens several times a day and only since an upgrade to Yosemite and I have tried a software update.Â

I am currently using a mid-2009 13-in MacBook Pro with an upgraded hard drive (750 SATA disk). I had ZERO problems with the computer prior to or after the hard drive upgrade UNTIL I got Lion (currently have 10.7.3).
Now, not a day goes by when my computer doesn't freeze. If I try to open multiple web pages AND Word at the same time, the spinning wheel of death pops up. God forbid I even think of opening PhotoShop. I can usually get the Force Quit application to appear, but it never works, and ultimately my computer can only be made to work by shutting down and restarting.
As a grad student who uses my computer for research (usually involving multiple web pages, datasets in Excel, Word notes, and sometimes statistical software packages like Stata all running at the same time) this is very very frustrating.I'm tech-capable to a point, but I am not well-versed enough to know how to fix this on my own (or if there even IS a fix). I was a loyal Mac enthusiast until recently, but this has got me at my wit's end.

My mouse pad is acting weird. My mouse keeps freezing and I cannot log in to my computer. Sometimes when I move the mouse it just jumps around the screen but it will not go to the what I'm trying to click on. I tried to reboot the computer.

I am working with a macbook pro, 13 inch. So I do not have an external mouse, I use the trackpad. Recently, it tends to freeze on occasion. If I leave it alone for a minute or so, it will unfreeze. Also, if I apply some force where the click button is, that seems to speed up the unfreezing process. When my trackpad freezes, the whole keyboard is frozen, Caps Lock won't work, control+apple+escape doesn't work, the only button that works is the power button if I feel I need to emergency shut down the computer.
Also, When I turn my computer off at night for the past two nights, I take out the power source. When I go to turn it on again, it won't turn on? The first day I freaked out, thought I would have to bring it in, but like 10 minutes later it turned on. Same happened this morning. Also, I more and more frequently am getting that signal that comes up in a couple different languages that tells me my computer froze and I must hold down the power button to power off my computer and turn it on again. Do I have a virus or something? What is happening to my mac?!
It seems to be happening on certain pages, but a lot of different internet sites. Could it be the internet? I ran a virus scanner (XCLAVE or whatever the name of it is) and it came back clean.
View 10 Replies View RelatedTook my Powerbook to the Apple store because, if can you believe this, it shut me out with a mysterious log-in request, which I had not engaged, plus the thing had begun slowing down... I asked if they could override the mysterious password issue and do a backup/erase/reinstall. They told me they could not and my hard drive was failing so I bought a new drive, installed it and am now experiencing a "freezing" issue everytime I try to boot-up from my OS X installation disc. Actually, the "freezing" was occurring with the old hard drive as well, but only during a reboot through the disc.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo ever since about 3-4 months ago, I'll get an error message on my Mac stating that I need to restart my computer. I lose all control and my only option really is to hold the power button down and restart it. I then Googled the issue and found this out. [URL]. No now my question is, do I do a clean install of my OS? Can Can I reinstall and then use time machine to restore my computer? I'm guessing that would give me the same problem as before. Any advice would be great! By the way.. I have a 2010 MacBook Pro i5 so its still really new. This problem happens maybe once every 2 months depending on how hard I'm using it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhat does this error message mean? I have had my MBA since Feb, and never had this error. I get the error, in several languages, and the computer is frozen at that point. A restart gets me back up and running until it happens again, usually within; an hour or so. Always while using Safari.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently got a MacBook from my school. Last night it was freezing quite a bit so I shut it down. This morning when I boot it up I get a screen saying 'you need to restart you computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off, then press the power button again'. Each time I do this though I get the same screen. I think the start up disk for the computer is at my school. is there anyway I can get it working just for today? I have also tried holding down F8 as I start it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro, which has been upgraded recently to Mavericks. My problem is that randomly (usually due to pressing a button or using the mouse) my computer will black out and restart. I was having these intermittent kernel panics earlier this year and took it to a repair shop that said it was not a hardware issue and clean-installed the OSX, but the problem has persisted. The only difference is that before it would just restart while now I get the gray "Your computer was restarted because of a problem" error screen.Â

So I did read though the previous forum relating to this problem. None of the posters were having the exact issue I am, and I could not find a solution within.
my hardware: powerbook G4. 1.33GHz Power PC. (upgraded to) 2GB DDR SDRAM. (just upgraded to) 320GB WD HDD
my OS: Just installed 10.4.11
Here's the scenario (I hope someone can help):
Several months ago my poor baby took a dive off a counter onto the tile floor, while running. Never before this did I see the "Kernal Panic" restart screen.
Immediately following the fall, I get the error if the computer is bumped, moved or if I put weight on the keyboard (palms).
I feared it was a HDD issue so I hastily replaced the toshiba 60GB HD with a WD320 HD. And at the same time I upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4.11.
The computer seemed fine for a couple weeks, now I am getting the error again with increasing frequency. Mostly when I put pressure on the keyboard (palms).
What I tried: new HD, new OS, checked the RAM to see if it had come loose in the fall.
Could it be my video card? Is it more likely hardware or software?
How can I restart my Macbook Pro if I can't remember the computer's name at start-up? I do remember the pass word.

I have a macbook pro, bought it May last year(2008). I don't know much about computers, but I loved the transition between pc and mac, had no trouble with it, loved to work with it, until now. I had noticed it became slower like 3 weeks ago, and a week ago, it started to freeze up on me followed by a message that said please restart your computer by pressing the power button and the screen becomes dark. When I try to restart it again, it takes a while because it shuts down again and again, until the 10th time it works. The store told me to clean intall, which I did yesterday, it seemed to have worked, it was faster for sure, but today it happened again, 3 times! Has this happened to anyone? Does somebody know what to do?

So I have a Macbook pro and I have Lion and my computer continues to occasionally freeze while I am running skype. This issue has also occured while I was running Imovie as well. I took it into the Apple store and everyone checked out ok. And when the screen freezes it sometimes goes all black or a grey textured background.Â

I have a first gen MBA. It is 1.6Ghz with 2GB of Ram. I am trying to watch the NCAA tournament on MMOD and the quality is terrible. It gets so choppy and I often have to quit Safari or Firefox and even restart the computer. It usually starts off ok but after a few minutes it becomes unwatchable.
What is wrong? I am not running anything by the OS and the browser. It isn't my internet as it makes no difference if I use wireless or ethernet and my download speeds are about 10-15Mbps. I don't have any problems watching streaming on my 5 yr old Dell.
My wife's MacBook Pro suddenly displayed a warning that the computer needed to shut down and restart. It shut down alright but won't restart.
