Well, after my keyboard backlight going out, and me looking for multiple solutions, I've found multiple solutions on the internet that include deleting the com.apple.iokit.AmbientLightSensor.plist file from the Library file. My issue is, I'm actually missing this file from my Macbook pro, which leads me to believe that this is the main reason that my backlight isn't working. Is there anywhere I can find this file, or any reason why I'm missing this?
Just to add in, I have a corrupt Hard Drive, and plan on fixing it soon. Could that have anything to do with it?

I have had my MacBook Pro now for a little over 2 yrs and I was very frustrated I could not change any print options in any application. I know that the Triangle button expands print options screen but when I do, I have only two print choices. It gave me Standard or Page Attributes in Office and any other App it is Standard and Last used settings. I can't print in Draft, Best or other setting because it does not even give them as a choice. I have two high end color photo printers, Canon i9900 and Epson Photo series and an old HP830 series. Any app I tried to print from and the same thing. I tried to capture the options on the choices but it would not grab that part of the image but here is my screen shot. I searched many forums and I still get the same answer so something else is not letting me change things so I figured best to ask since I am a 20 year win user now switched to Mac. Well right after I posted this question, my wife found the answer. I never though to check the application NAME in the print setting screen. Example, in the screenshot I am using Preview. I never thought to hit the up/down arrow next to the Preview label and wouldn't you know, that is were the quality and several other settings were. I felt pretty stupid that it took 2 years to figure this out but if I posted the answer maybe someone else will not have to take as long as I did to change their print quality!

My MacBook's default fonts for viewing content in the Malayalam script/language seem to be Malayalam MN and Malayalam Sangam MN -- not surprisingly, since those are the default Malayalam fonts that come with the OS. However, both of those fonts are missing a lot of conjuncts/ligatures. There are some free fonts that do have the missing characters, so I'd like to put them at the top of whatever preference list the OS is using to decide which fonts to choose.

Word.. and when you reopen the application, that last document used always opens aswell. Regardless of what I told the application to open like a completely different document. I've connect a Microsoft keyboard to my Mac and swapped the control and commany keys in system preferences.
The weird thing is Microsoft's keyboard can't understand the swap. When I press the control key, sometimes it thinks I am pressing command and sometimes it thinks I am pressing control.

I use my MacBook pro on battery most of the time and every time I go to turn up the keyboard brightness its in a different place. I want to set it to be at a specific brightness when its plugged in and when its running on battery, at a lower brightness but the same every time. View 1 Replies View RelatedI did not have to use smc fan control earlier but ever since 10.6, it seems my notebook does not ramp up the fans until 90C or even higher. In 10.5 I would see the fans to start coming on when the temp got in the 80C range. Anyone else have a similar experience? I was converting a movie to my iPhone using Quicktime X last night and I saw the temp get to 100C before the fans ramped up and stayed at about 6200rpm. I hate to make another cpu temperature thread, but I am trying to see if Snow Leopard had any impact on SMC settings.
(I also did a SMC reset after installing SL and the effects are the same with the fan speed not coming on sooner) I guess now is the time to get the program to control my fan speed. Just sucks that Apple themselves cannot control their own temps
I've noticed that the system preferences for the keyboard backlight settings only seem to be partially working on my Mac Book Pro 2011. This might be since I updated to 10.7.4 or applied the firmware update EFI 2.7; I can't say which since I did the two close together. The keyboard still lights up and the slider that sets the time-out for illumination still works as do the F5 and F6 keys to dim and brighten the light. However, the preference setting seem to completely ignore the tick box to select whether you want the illumination function on or off.

To make sure my color profile was set to the correct one, I opened up the display panel in System Preferences. The moment I opened it, the display snapped back to its regular appearance. As far as I can tell, it goes into the washed out version after going to screensaver and coming back, and going into display prefs is the only way to restore it. Anyone seen this before or know how to keep it from doing this?

It used to be when I clicked the battery icon I could select Better Battery Life, Better Performance, or Normal from the drop down menu. Have a mid 2010, 13" mbp; read some posts, but can't find it under system> keyboard settings...
When I try to select this option in system preferences, my system just hangs indefinitely. I was considering getting the four finger gestures up and running, but I had only thought about it and did not actually start doing anything to the computer. Maybe they are reading my mind and punishing me? It has been like this for a couple of days through multiple reboots.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a rev. A MBA and it does two odd things. If I set the display to full brightness, then power down and back up, the display doesn't return to full brightness. I have to go into the display preferences pane and move the slider a fraction of an inch to return to full brightness. The "adjust brightness for ambient light" and "reduce brightness on this power source" are disabled, so that isn't it. Also, the MBA forgets the brightness setting for the keyboard when it is powered off and then on again. As best I can determine the keyboard brightness is set to a random level at power up. I've used MacBook Pros for years, so I don't think it's anything I'm doing.
