MacBook :: Energy Saver Icon - Change The Settings
Feb 7, 2009I just noticed a small but very annoying change. I have the energy saver pane appear in the menu bar on my iBook. It used to be when I clicked the battery icon I could select Better Battery Life, Better Performance, or Normal from the drop down menu. I don't when this change happened, but I am now no longer able to select those from the icon, I have to open System Preference to change it. [URL]

Aug 21, 2014My MacBook Pro 13", running on latest update, is showing a completely blue, plain blue, desktop background. It changed all by itself. When I tried to reset it by right clicking on the image I want on my desktop and selecting "Set Desktop Picture" nothing changes. When I go into my settings and try to change it that way, the image I want as my background shows as already being my background, yet my desktop is still blue. Tried rebooting already.

Hardware ::Won't Work With Airport Base Station / Can't Change Settings
Sep 6, 2010I have an Airport Base station. I need to reset this base station back to the factory defaults. I want to wipe away all settings.
First, how do I determine which kind of Base station that I have? The base station is white with two cat5 jacks, USB, and telephone jack. I think it is a dual port station. I don't know if this would a Graphite or Snow model.
Second, how do I reset the base station. Do I use the small reset button on the back of the unit? OR do I use Airport Base Utility software? If so, which version should I use? I am using OS 10.4.11.
Third, does anyone know of a good user manual for this particular model?

MacBook Pro :: Can't Change Print Settings On A Mbp / Printer Settings OSX 10.5?
Jun 26, 2010I have had my MacBook Pro now for a little over 2 yrs and I was very frustrated I could not change any print options in any application. I know that the Triangle button expands print options screen but when I do, I have only two print choices. It gave me Standard or Page Attributes in Office and any other App it is Standard and Last used settings. I can't print in Draft, Best or other setting because it does not even give them as a choice. I have two high end color photo printers, Canon i9900 and Epson Photo series and an old HP830 series. Any app I tried to print from and the same thing. I tried to capture the options on the choices but it would not grab that part of the image but here is my screen shot. I searched many forums and I still get the same answer so something else is not letting me change things so I figured best to ask since I am a 20 year win user now switched to Mac. Well right after I posted this question, my wife found the answer. I never though to check the application NAME in the print setting screen. Example, in the screenshot I am using Preview. I never thought to hit the up/down arrow next to the Preview label and wouldn't you know, that is were the quality and several other settings were. I felt pretty stupid that it took 2 years to figure this out but if I posted the answer maybe someone else will not have to take as long as I did to change their print quality!

Jan 4, 2010I have just completed rescuing a water damaged MB C2D which was originally a 2.16 and is now a 1.83. Fun project for a cold Sunday afternoon. 5 hrs I have one issue with the MB and that is the charging of the battery. The battery icon sometimes shows 'no battery' or if it shows a battery is recognized, it isn't charging. The LED on the mag-safe charger is always green. The battery is from the water damaged 2.16 and my thinking is that it may have suffered damage from being exposed to water. Original owner left the MB in the backyard and it started to rain!

Jul 8, 2009my mac seems to be slower as the days go by. on the start up screen when i first got it i can type in my password and when it goes to my desktop the macintosh hd icon is already there and the tool bar at the top with the battery and time is already there too. but now when i log in it seems to take time to load the macintosh icon and the tool bar. i also bought AirPort Express the little accessory that plugs into the wall and lets you get wi fi off of and wireless air tunes and printing.

MacBook :: White MB Shows X On Battery Icon But It Works Fine?
Dec 5, 2010I don't get this. My mom's white MacBook (Intel IGP model) showed an X across the battery like it doesn't work, so I bought her a new battery for it. However, I installed the new battery and it still shows an X but it actually does work. I figured it out by accident. I thought maybe I bought a bad battery. I tripped over the magsafe and the MB stayed on... confused, I am now here. Not finding much about this.
What causes OS X to display an X across the battery icon? Doesn't this usually mean the battery is ruined? When pushing the button on the bottom of the battery, it shows five LEDs as it's fully charged and working. I unplugged it several times, and the MB stays on.
It also reduces the screen brightness and seems to go into battery power saving settings when unplugged. So how do I get OS X to see the battery? It must be charging properly as it's not hot or bulging or anything at all.
The problem is simply that it's not showing the battery information at all as though there were no battery plugged into the MacBook. But it works as though it's plugged in and all is normal?

Nov 29, 2009I sent my Macbook to the Genius repair, I could take snapshots and they would find their own space on the desktop. Now they go over the Macintosh HD icon. Same with whenever I insert a dvd, it goes over the HD icon. It's annoying because they all pile up on top of the HD icon.

Sep 15, 2009I did not have to use smc fan control earlier but ever since 10.6, it seems my notebook does not ramp up the fans until 90C or even higher. In 10.5 I would see the fans to start coming on when the temp got in the 80C range. Anyone else have a similar experience? I was converting a movie to my iPhone using Quicktime X last night and I saw the temp get to 100C before the fans ramped up and stayed at about 6200rpm. I hate to make another cpu temperature thread, but I am trying to see if Snow Leopard had any impact on SMC settings.
(I also did a SMC reset after installing SL and the effects are the same with the fan speed not coming on sooner) I guess now is the time to get the program to control my fan speed. Just sucks that Apple themselves cannot control their own temps
OS X :: Mac Won't Boot From Ext. FW Drive And Icon Shows Its Int Dri?
Aug 14, 2010I have a Intel Dual-Core Intel Xeon. I boot from FW drives all the time. A client came in with their OS on a WD My Book Studio LX. I plug in via FW 800, but holding the option key on boot does not display the clients FW/OS drive. I can go into startup disk, select their drive from there, but when the computer restarts I get to the grey Apple screen and it just stays there spinning and then the Mac restarts itself.
One strange addition; when I boot to my good OS, their drive shows up with an internal drive icon as opposed to the regular FW icon. they brought their new 8-core system off their bus and we are able to boot off that computer from the FW drive no problem.
OS X :: Display Settings Visibly Change When Display Settings Panel Is Opened?
Oct 4, 2009I was using my MBP when I noticed that the display (the built in one) looked a little washed out. To make sure my color profile was set to the correct one, I opened up the display panel in System Preferences. The moment I opened it, the display snapped back to its regular appearance. As far as I can tell, it goes into the washed out version after going to screensaver and coming back, and going into display prefs is the only way to restore it. Anyone seen this before or know how to keep it from doing this?

Jan 19, 2010I'm afraid I'm having a Windows user moment. Sometimes I still fail to do things the easy, intuitive way, even after roughly 4 years in OS X. I have 5 hard drives in my Mac Pro, one of them is my boot Intel SSD. I want that icon to be distinct from the others (another is a Time Machine drive). I've downloaded two files that would work for me, one was a png and the other a .ico file, but when I copy the icon from the top left corner of the 'get info' pane on the desired file, and then paste it int he correlating top left corner of the SSD 'get info' pane, it pastes the generic PNG or ICO icon, not the actual icon image I desire.

OS X Yosemite :: Image While Composing Mail Just Shows Up As Icon?
Dec 1, 2014When I compose a message in mail and drag an images into the mail it just shows up as an icon. So I can't see the image in the mail. I relized today that when I send the mail and the recipient opens tha mail the image is just displayed really really small.. I've tried to setup a new user on the same machine and when I compose a mail with that user drag and drop works beautifully and the images shows in the mail just as it should.I’ve tried: defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing 1 (and I tried setting it to 0 as well) but no difference. I’m running 10.10.1 and mail 8.1. Anyway I can solve this or a work-around would be great that doesn't involve migrating to the test account.. Can I either reset the mailsettings, or copy any .plist that hold the mail.app settings from the test account (where it works as it should)?
