I've connect a Microsoft keyboard to my Mac and swapped the control and commany keys in system preferences.
The weird thing is Microsoft's keyboard can't understand the swap. When I press the control key, sometimes it thinks I am pressing command and sometimes it thinks I am pressing control.
I have a bit of an odd situation. I purchased a Microsoft Digital Media Pro 3000 keyboard today (great boxing day sale for $14.00!) and noticed that in System Preferences I now have an option for Ink - this wasn't there before and it disappears as soon as I unplug the keyboard, does anyone know why this happens?
View 13 Replies View RelatedMy G5 recently died, and I upgraded to a MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, and my keyboard is not working correctly. It seems that the Microsoft Intellipoint software does not work right. I don't really care about most of the bells and whistles, but I really need to remap my crt and alt keys to their mac equivalents, and add an eject key. Without those this keyboard is useless, and I need it, as I get bad carpal tunnel syndrome. Is there alternate software than microsofts that will work? I am willing to buy it, just need to know my best options.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm guessing it's connected with my recently updating my MacBook Pro (2.9 GHz Intel Core i7) to OS 10.9.4. Whether I open Word by clicking on a Word document, opening it via Spotlight, or directly clicking the application icon itself, my keyboard is changed from Dvorak to the standard American English keyboard. And as if that weren't irritating enough, if I change the keyboard back to Dvorak, opening another Word document while Word is still open causes it to flip back to American English.

I use my MacBook pro on battery most of the time and every time I go to turn up the keyboard brightness its in a different place. I want to set it to be at a specific brightness when its plugged in and when its running on battery, at a lower brightness but the same every time. I want to be able to have settings for the led brightness.

I just bought a new Mac Book Pro with a clean install of yosemite and I have noticed that system settings, in particular the keyboard modifier keys, seem to be reverting to their default inputs. It is possible this switch is to to docking and undocking the machine from my apple studio display.

I've worked out that now both of my keyboards have some how changed setting to only let me type with a set of numbers. If you look in this pic V yu will see blue numbers on the letter keys: (forget about the arrow thing found this on google). You see the numbers that are also on the keys? 6 being on O 3 on L. This is now how my key boards are set up. Does anyone know how to unset them?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that the system preferences for the keyboard backlight settings only seem to be partially working on my Mac Book Pro 2011. This might be since I updated to 10.7.4 or applied the firmware update EFI 2.7; I can't say which since I did the two close together. The keyboard still lights up and the slider that sets the time-out for illumination still works as do the F5 and F6 keys to dim and brighten the light. However, the preference setting seem to completely ignore the tick box to select whether you want the illumination function on or off.

Have a mid 2010, 13" mbp; read some posts, but can't find it under system> keyboard settings...
When I try to select this option in system preferences, my system just hangs indefinitely. I was considering getting the four finger gestures up and running, but I had only thought about it and did not actually start doing anything to the computer. Maybe they are reading my mind and punishing me? It has been like this for a couple of days through multiple reboots.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a rev. A MBA and it does two odd things. If I set the display to full brightness, then power down and back up, the display doesn't return to full brightness. I have to go into the display preferences pane and move the slider a fraction of an inch to return to full brightness. The "adjust brightness for ambient light" and "reduce brightness on this power source" are disabled, so that isn't it. Also, the MBA forgets the brightness setting for the keyboard when it is powered off and then on again. As best I can determine the keyboard brightness is set to a random level at power up. I've used MacBook Pros for years, so I don't think it's anything I'm doing.

The specific setting is "Use all F1, F2, etc keys as standard function keys." I and many other Cinema 4D users find ourselves needing to turn this on and off all day long, because the app uses that F8 key that the new Aluminum keyboards have coopted, but using it means losing our speaker volume / mute settings. This is in Tiger btw.

View 4 Replies View RelatedYesterday I had a Leopard software update which included new keyboard firmware. I did the update and the keyboard continued to function normally. This AM I booted my MacBook Pro and discovered the keyboard no longer responds to inputs. However, the MB does responds to an external USB keyboard.
Now I don't know if I have a sudden hardware problem or the MB keyboard is not working as a result of the firmware update. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Can I go back to the earlier revision of the keyboard firmware?

I just bought a new 2012 aluminum Wireless keyboard and the function keys do not work properly. I am currently running OS 1.5.8. I would expect most keys to match the icons on the keyboard. I do not want to upgrade to Snow Leopard or Lion. I have installed an aluminum keyboard upgrade 2.0 and this did not help. I just want the the keyboard functions to match the icons on the keyboard.. Volume up...volume down...

I used to just closed my Mac instead of pressing the shutdown button; I tried this time but I cannot shut it down anymore, also my keyboard cannot control the volume or turn on the keyboard-light. View 2 Replies View RelatedSo my friend was using his MacBook and went to do something else. He came back and the screen was black, he hit space and nothing, tried the trackpad and nothing. He restarted by holding the Power button, and it go to the log-in screen, but he can't type anything, or use the trackpad. He has tired restarting several times and no luck. He also tried an external Keyboard/Mouse and that didn't work.
He did plug in a Flash drive and the light turned on, so the USB ports are at least getting power, but nothing is working.
I just got a generic usb keyboard to use with my mbp as schoolwork is taking its toll on the keys and I wouldn't mind preserving it a little better.
This keyboard is the dynex from bbuy that's labeled in windows crap but was cheap and works fine on the mac. Unfortunately, everytime the mbp comes out of sleep, the keyboard is unresponsive and i have to set it up again in settings.
Just hoping there's a simple fix and that it's not terminal

I bought a new i7 iMac about two months ago and love it but the Bluetooth keyboard it came with recently started acting up. It randomly disconnects and when it does it will type whatever letter I last hit on the keyboard repeatly.

I am contemplating just not using it, however it really does put the keyboard in a more natural place for me to sit correctly. If I want to use the wired keyboard though, I will obviously need some type of usb extension. I have read these came with the old keyboards, but they don't come with the new ones. Does anyone know where I can find one that is compatible with the aluminum keyboard? Would the extenders that came with the old Mac keyboards work (in case i can find one on ebay or something)?

It wasn't until I got home that I read the "requirements" section on the side of the mouse and keyboard boxes, where it states that an existing keyboard and mouse are needed for setup.

I alternate between French and English regularly when typing, but every time I have to go to System Preferences (or add an ugly flag that does not match the color-scheme to the status-bar) and change the language. Is there a way to have a keyboard shortcut that switches between two keyboard shortcuts?
