MacBook Pro :: Change Battery In Mid 2009 With AppleCare?
Jul 4, 2012
I have problems with the battery of my macbook mid 2009 and would like to know if I can replace it by warranty since I bought the applecare, I am currently in Venezuela and here I was told at the authorized service center when they opened the case in apple technicians indicated that they change does not apply because it has 360 cycles and apple and just change up when they have 200 cycles and Latin America also does not apply to the warranty, and the warranty is almost expired I have until July 16,
I have had multiple Apple laptops in the past and never gotten (nor seen the need for) AppleCare. Both Pismo, CS1400 and MBP first gen. My experience is that any weak point will show up during the first year and I have sent in at least one to Apple and they have fixed it under original warranty during first year, no problem. Since battery seems to be the weak link I was planning on getting AppleCare for my new MBA. However if that is not the covered by AppleCare then I am looking for some pointers/reason why I should even consider AppleCare for my MBA.
I have a base level 1st Gen Unibody 15" Macbook Pro. It has the removable battery and I bought it refurbished online because it was way cheaper. I do have Applecare. A few weeks ago it began randomly turning off. Like I will be doing stuff, have plenty of battery left according to both the software meter and the green lights on the side, then it will click, the screen will turn black and I won't be able to turn it back on.
I've got a Macbook Unibody which is still covered under AppleCare, and I discovered that the battery has swollen and became slightly bigger, enough for the battery cover not to close properly. The battery has only 200 cycles and is still on 84% capacity, and I have AppleCare until November 2011, so I thought it was a battery defect and took it to my local Apple reseller. (no Apple stores here yet )
So, after two days I was told that they had checked my Macbook and found the cause for the battery to swell up: there was a lot of dust on what seems the output of the processor disippator (a place I wouldn't be able to reach myself to clean, as I would have to disassemble it), and that dust caused the processor to become hotter (even though I hadn't noticed it) and that too much heat caused the battery to swell up.
But the funny thing is: Apple won't authorize the battery replacement, because they say it is not a battery defect, as it was caused by the processor heating because of the dust that got there by "normal usage" and I couldn't clean by myself. They told me I should have got there by the time I noticed my laptop becoming hotter than before so they could have cleaned it, but now it was just too late.
So I was left with the laptop and the swollen battery again, after I refused for them to charge me for the battery a little bit more than the price that I could get it from the online Apple Store.
any experience with swollen after normal usage batteries? Will the battery swell up more if I keep using it? Do you have any idea on how to convince Apple to give me a new battery? (after all, batteries aren't supposed to swell up, aren't they?)
I have a Mid 2009 MBP running with Lion. I've notice a message that says "Repair Battery" under system preferences/battery. I didnt noticed anything strange with my battery life, but I want to know if I have to do something.Â
Looking into getting a SSD 128GB for my 2009 uMB but I am wondering if that helps extend your battery life because I am getting 3.5 to 4 Hours on a single charge now. I just wonder if I can get more than 5 hours out of the battery with an SSD, then I can use the external drive for everything else but OS and Applications.
My battery life is very bad. goes down 40% in half an hour just viewing the internet. Only one year old, still have warranty with Applecare. Will I be able to exchange it for a replacement, how does this work?
So I calibrated my battery last night in hopes of bumping up it's longevity, but with no success. Right now I'm at 100% charged, at exactly 50% brightness, Word and Powerpoint open, with the usual browsing. No music or video playing etc. The time remaining is approximately 4 hours. I checked coconutbattery and it says that the capacity is 100% with 201 cycles and 7 month age. Why is it not showing 5:30 to 6 hours (sometimes even 6:30) like it did only 2-3 weeks ago. Shouldn't the calibration help the longevity of the battery?
what are the battery cycles for a late 2009 MacBook.I see that it is starting to drain my battery like really fast, here I have been typing this and have watched my battery go down 10%.

the other night my girlfriends white 2009 Macbook (was updated to lion) stopped recognizing the battery. Only would boot when plugged into AC. I have other Macs so I tried different power adapters and switching in a battery that I knew was charged from another Macbook, and still did not recognize. Both batteries show 80% full or more when button pressed on battery. I moved it to my office to debug, requiring that I shut down and move the power cord. Then when I booted up, it started shutting down 10 seconds after reboot to user screen. I did the SMC reset and the PRAM resets, did Safe mode checking. Mac would still not "see" the battery or stay on for more then a few seconds even on AC. I then used the Snow Leopard install DVD and disc utilities, did a complete erase of the hard drive and reinstall of the Snow Leopard DVD. That took around 30 minutes, and the Macbook stayed on the entire time during reinstall. 1st boot after reinstall, stayed on long enogh to "set up" a user, then the shutdown problems appeared again. Â
Not entirely sure, as the power light on the front has been faulty for over a year, so i can not see if it is "on", but if I plug in a thimb drive, the thumb drive light blinks as if it is getting poweer, I would think thta means the computer is on, maybe the display is just shutting off? I do not have the original install discs, just the Snow Leopard 10.6.3 install DVD and a Lion install thumb drive, how can I do a AHT?Â

when I bought this thing, I easily got 5 hours, but two years later and 489 charge cycles (according to coconut battery) I am lucky to get 3 Solid hours of web browsing. What is the life span of these batteries, I am assuming I might just go to Apple and buy another one for $129.00 a rip off but what can I do, I will not use another brand of battery.
I saw some threads where it is recommended to calib the battery if the person is using the laptop from the AC power for the most of the time.Plugged in for 2 hours. (with full charge)Let the computer do some heavy works.the computer automatically shut down.I had to go for work, so I left the computer the way it was for 9 hours.
Now normally I wouldn't expect it in an under 4 year old machine, but the normal battery is working as expected. However, when I'm not plugged into power, my WiFi doesn't always reconnect, and when it does, the internet doesn't seem to connect either 90% of the time. When I'm plugged into power, no problem. 3 other machines on the same wireless network have no issues with it, though my cable company says they are detecting intermittent signal loss, which I can't reproduce on any other machine. The other reason I believe it is the PRAM battery and not the main battery, is during one reboot, the date reset itself to year 2000. Once I managed to reconnect the internet, I was able to set the date & time to the time server.

I have a late 2009, white unibody MacBook which is 7 months old, and I have been noticing that the battery life is getting less and less, and am rather confused.I reset the SMC as per Apple instructions, and then followed the battery calibrating guide to the letter from apple.com, and tonight it seems to have lasted... 3.5 hrs! Hardly the quoted 7 hours that Apple spec, and I am simply doing light web browsing, nothing else.Am I doing something wrong? The machine sits connected to magsafe 90% of the time, but I cannot envisage that would cause any problem, as it knows when it is charged, so afaik no more current can get to the battery to damage it
How good is the realistic battery life of the base MacBook White 2009 for both playing a game on Windows Boot Camp and just browsing the internet over WiFi?
I did a google search on this and just came up with answers/solutions that I have already tried but haven't had much luck.I have a 2010 13" MacBook Pro. Till about a day or two ago I use to get amazing battery performance out of the computer. I mean 8-9 hours without major issues. Now suddenly for the last couple of days the batter life after a fully charged battery shows up as 3 hours. I can't figure out why.

apple replaced my SR mbp with a new unibody model after a series of breaks (which was awesome). Anyway, they told us to buy applecare, and since we were getting a brand new laptop we kind of had to say yes, so we bought it. Then when I got home and actually tried to apply it, it said it already had applecare. So I looked up the serial and it's covered until sep 2012, 3 years. So did I just get free applecare or did it just automatically apply because they were on the same receipt?
I'm buying iMac, I should get it about 4/10/10, I got it with apple care. My question is :- in three years time, can I buy it again and still be covered?
I have an old AppleCare Protection Plan for a Macbook Pro/Powerbook (MA515LL/A) that I did not use within one year of purchasing my old computer. Because of this (and my inability to find my proof of purchase), it was never registered. If I got a new Macbook Pro, would I be able to use this old AppleCare Protection Plan on it?
I want to purchase Applecare through Amazon because it is so much cheaper than the Apple Store. However, Amazon doesn't have any listings for Applecare specifically for the Air.
