I've got a screen scratch that is driving me nuts. I've tried some of the buff compounds, etc. to no avail. applied a screen protector to mask the scratch? Right now it shows up because it distorts the light.

Is there an app that will effectively mask the entire screen and allow you to let only a rectangle area show through?
I am selling my MacBook as I upgraded to a MBP. I was cleaning the screen to pretty it up and realized that the screen was chipped or scratched. I am not sure what to do. It is going to be anywhere from $99-$200 to fix it. Do you think it is worth it? Below are the general specs of the MB:

A friend of mine will sell me an aluminum 23" that works absolutely perfectly. The issue is a 3-4 inch scratch on the screen.
I just opened my MBP and I found this black gunk on parts of it... it wiped off pretty easily but on the top of it there's one small scratch that isn't going away. Should I worry about this? I didn't even touch it and it had a scratch on it. It's very small but it still really bugs me. It just bugs me that I just turned it on and there's already a scratch.

My heart dropped when I heard these screeching noises, but it doesn't look too bad and hopefully eliminates the OCD I tend to have with electronics.

If I change the subnet mask to 255.255.254.0, and increase the DHCP pool from 192.168.200.1 to 192.168.201.254.....will this work.
I have a couple of statically assigned printers, so I am guessing they will need their subnet mask changing as well.

I've just taken receipt of a Linksys NSLU2 "Slug". It's essentially a small diskless NAS that allows you to plug in and share USB hard drives over the network. It passes its own POST, and is connected via a fully-functional Cat6 ethernet cable to an Airport Extreme Base Station 802.11n (hereafter simply, "AEBS") running firmware 7.6.1. In a nutshell: I can't make the Linksys NSLU2 (hereafter known as simply, "the slug") available over the network.
The problem appears to be this: the slug requires that the LAN use a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. This is its default setting and, if it can be changed, I have to get it connected to the network first. The AEBS currently reports a subnet mask of 255.255.252.0. So far as I have been informed, it is this subnet mask mismatch between the slug and the AEBS that is preventing connectivity.I'm currently using Airport Utility 5, simply because I'm more accustomed to its settings. If I launch it, authenticate into Manual Setup, and navigate to Internet>TCP/IP, it displays the following information:
Actual problem:If I edit the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0, and click UPDATE, I get the following error message:The router address you have entered is not compatible with your WAN IP address
It then lets me change the Router Address before continuing. However, neither I nor my friend (whom I do believe knows more than a fair bit about networking) have any idea what this Router Address is. It is in no way similar to the router's Private IP Address assigned using DHCP ranges. It is a Public IP Address, and shares the first two octets with my IP Address. Because neither I nor my friend know what this represents, or what it is for, we're reluctant to mess with it. But until we "mess" with it, we can't change the subnet mask on the AEBS, and thus I can't access the slug!

So I was watching friends and on my macbook and whenever I'd move my macbook even a little the superdrive would make noises as if the disc was being scratched inside. All the other discs that I tried didnt do any such thing. Possible reasons? Can I damage the internal laser this way?

I bought my macbook in June of 2010. My bottom plate is heavily scratched in the middle. I touched it and found out that it was bulging out a bit. Is it possible to get my bottom plate replaced in anyway?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI obviously didn't choose my words correctly because everyone would rather pick apart what I said and did rather than acknowledging that...Apple sent me a scratched Snow Leopard disc.These things do happen so make sure you always backup your data and always check the disc before you put it in your computer. Even if its from a company you love and trust.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new 15 inch i5 mbp. I put a cd in to rip it onto itunes. It was really scratched. Now the computer ate my disc (I know I can restart and it will be ok, that's not my question). Shouldn't my brand new mbp be able to cope with a scratched disc? It seems a bit bizarre that the entire computer would freeze just because a disc is scratched. Also, it seems like it takes much longer to rip cds than it does on my pc. It doesn't just seem like it. It takes almost twice as long.

My iMac was in the middle of burning a CD on Sunday and spat it out halfway through. Next it was spitting every disc out, including the OS disk at firmware. Anyway, Applecare confirmed the superdrive needed replaced. The machine is only just over a month old (but it is the old top end 3.06GHz model)! So, it went off for repair in perfect order, all packaged up in the original packaging. Based on the advice on others, I also took many photographs before I dropped it off at the repair place. When I picked up the machine today the back of it has been scratched in a number of places. The screen also has loads of dust/debris underneath the glass display.

Now whenever it boot up, it says press any button to boot from cd. I tryed installing rEFit, it installs but doesn'ty boot into the boot loader.

I have 3 problems with my aluminum macbook and I think that they are all related and are caused by each other.1) The hinge creeks sometimes when I slowly close the screen and I'm afraid it will only get worse as this just started happening.) When the macbook is closed, the screen is uneven. The right side does not completely close and there is a gap between the base of the computer and the screen. However, the left side is just fine unless I push down on the right side then the left side just goes up and becomes uneven.

My problem is that when I want a program (or more specifically in this case a game) to go into fullscreen mode it automatically goes to my primary monitor and turns the other screen black. I know I can switch the primary monitor from my actual laptop screen to the TV however I just want the game to be full screen on the TV while still having access to my dock and everything on my laptop.

I have tried to take a picture, please excuse the poor quality. There is nothing visible when the screen is off, even under close examination. Is it less visible when lighter things are on the screen, and invisible when the screen is white.
No drops or liquid spills. Will this go away on it's own? Any fixes?
I recently upgraded to a Macbook Pro 15" with a mini displayport, and I decided I would share my LCD monitor with my windows box. The desktop box is connected with DVI and I have connected my Macbook through an HDMI adaptor from Moshi. Everything works very well, and I'm pleased with the quality of the output, but I'm having trouble with a screen flicker in full screen games.
When I select full 1080p (1900x1080) in any full screen game, the screen "shudders." It does not occur on the OS X desktop, and I can only explain it as a shudder. Lines and text shift perceptively left and right, and the game is unplayable. I have experienced this problem in Starcraft 2, World of Warcraft, and Half Life: Episode 2 so far.
Could the problem be with my monitor and the way it handles an HDMI signal? The Macbook is flawless otherwise, with no other issues of any kind. The "shudder" only occurs during full screen games set to 1900x1080. Lower resolutions are not effected and work fine...
I'm stumped.
Edit: I should add that I have no other 1080p capable devices to test the output with.
I've got my MacBook attached to my 40" Sony Bravia HDTV (KDL40W4500), and when I mirror the display or use the HDTV as the primary screen it cuts off portions of the screen like the main toolbar on top, as well as some of the dock. I tried to change the Screen Format on my TV but that doesn't seem to work, does anyone know how to fix this?

I have a new 13" and, every so often, the screen brightness dims and then brightens very quickly (happens in less than a second).The option for auto-adjusting the screen brightness is off so it's not that particular function.It's most noticeable on all-white backgrounds both on AC and battery power. Hard drive access doesn't seem to coincide with the dimming.
View 17 Replies View Relatedthere are two things that the macbook is doing to me. one is that sometimes when i move the screen up or down (the hinge is rather stiff) a white (thin) line flashes across the screen. but recently, while randomly browsing through the internet, the screen almost... i guess faded to a gray screen, but like gradually, and not like a kernel error, like the display just faded away. happened twice in a row, did a battery pull and now wont do it again.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering how uniform the backlighting is on everyone's mid-2010 MBPs. The screen on mine is sort of a gradient, with the screen becoming progressively brighter towards the left side. There are also what appear to be columns where the screen is slightly darker than the surrounding area. This makes it annoying to read in low-light conditions because the left side of the screen will be at a comfortable level when the right side is slightly too dim, or the other extreme. I absolutely cannot stand dead/hot pixels though which makes me hesitant to have the screen replaced. I just bought the notebook a week ago but I don't want it replaced, as I installed a Moshi PalmGuard before I noticed the screen issues. I also installed an InvisibleShield but I can have that replaced at no cost.
