MacBook Pro :: 2.66 Significantly Cooler Than 2.53?

Oct 3, 2009

I'm considering getting a 15" MBP, but am trying to decide if it's worth the little extra to get the 2.66 over the 2.53. I have been comparing the differences and I found out that the 2.53 only has 1 fan, whereas the 2.66 has 2. If both are using the 9400m, would the 2.66 run significantly cooler? If so by how much do you think? Would it be better in the long run for the computer?

Applications :: Getting CPU To Run Cooler?

Oct 29, 2009

Normal browsing with no flash my CPU draws from 2.5 watts to 6 watts on average, when flash is going my CPU jumps to 40 watts or more. Not a problem I understand that it's going to use more power because flash is a power hog.

Problem is when I close the tab or window that contained the flash I would assume that my CPU would drop back down to the 4 watts it seems to average. That is not always the case, in fact more often than not it would not drop down until I restarted my browser, this was true in Firefox and Safari.

Mac Pro :: Swapped Stock Cooler - GC Does Not Work Anymore

Sep 14, 2008

Yesterday I swapped the stock cooler of my radeon HD3870 for a zalman vf1000. Since then, the GC doesn't work anymore (even with the stock fan back). So after a night of check, test and prettty much everything, I'm pretty sure my GC is dead. What I want to know it could be a short circuit? I'm a good mac user and I already did that on others cards (X1900 with an accelero for example.) I talked with xlryourmac and he can't see. I really want to find out a plausible explanation, because I'll probably buy another GC et wouldn't want to do the same mistake twice. I have a Macpro clovertown 2x3 Ghz - 12Gb Ram- Raptor Boot- Raid 3To- Multibridge Pro 2.

Intel Mac :: 110v Or 220v - Which Gives Quality Electricity, Run Cooler Better

Mar 31, 2012

The iMac having a maximum wattage of 350w, would it be better to plug it in a 110v outlet or a 220v outlet. Which outlet has cleaner electricity/less noise and which will make the iMac work better, last longer or operate better. Which will save money? I heard 220v is better for hight powered gadgets and appliances, at 350w, is this iMac a high powered or a low powered machine?

MacBook Pro :: 15" Or 17" - 5400rpm Or 7200rpm - 17" Cooler Than 15"?

Sep 23, 2009

do I have to take the 15" or 17" macbook pro unibody? I mean not just screen size either, it's more like I don't know, the one plus to the 15" model is the SD card reader, but is that a reason to not buy the 17" if not considering the screen size for a moment. Either way, the processor would be the 2,8 Ghz or maybe even the 3,06 Ghz. If I buy the 15" ofcourse there is a bit more money to spend on tweaks like the bigger processor and maybe more RAM and faster HD, but that said, I still can't choose. I even have questions if not the 17" runs a bit cooler than the 15" same spec model just because it has "more space" inside... crazy thinking I know, I might just be so wrong but still, who knows. And then for the HD, is it according to speed, so much better to take the 7200 rpm 500gb over the 5400 rpm 500 gb? The 7200 rpm will use a bit more battery life ofcourse but with up to 8 hours of battery, I might just think about possibly more speed instead of battery life. Few years ago I read something about the bits in a 5400 rpm being very close to each other so the reading was as fast as an 7200 rpm, I don't know about you but this makes me wonder wether or not buying it over the standard HD.

MacBook Pro :: Slower Processor - More Ram?

Dec 12, 2010

I'm in the market for a new MBP and, looking through the models, it's between the: 13" 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo with 8gb of RAM 13" 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo with 4gb of RAM I'll be using it for: Adobe apps (Flash, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign; often 2 of these at a time), videos (esp. streamed online), word processing, and general web browsing. I often have at least 1 of the mentioned Adobe applications, as well as a streaming video and 5-10 browser tabs open at once. So, which is better for my purposes, the 4gb more RAM but slower processor, or the faster processor with 4gb less RAM?

I want to know if it makes more sense to bump from 2.8Ghz to 3.06Ghz and get a 320GB 7200rmp HDD or stay down at the 2.8Ghz and get the 128GB SSD. I only use 40GB of space now so that is not an issue.

MacBook Pro :: Looking For Current Graphics/processor?

Apr 13, 2010

If the 13" isn't updated I may get the current version...but was after some advice about the graphics card/processor (I realise I'm probably using the wrong term).

I'd read that users have to log off to switch the graphics option when using the mbp for heavier work.

Can anyone provide an idiot's guide on what this actually means? How often it has to be done, for what tasks (video editing etc) and how long the switch physically takes?
