Applications :: Best Application To Control Fans To Make MBP Cooler
Sep 23, 2010
I have late 2008 MBP that run on leopard and I was using fan control (I forget the name) but now I cleaned install SL and I don't have that app. If I keep my MBP on for hours it become hot (around 60-73 c) and before it was cooler (around 40-55 c). Is there other app better then that?
Anyone here know if the fans run less now? My Macbook 2.2Ghz fans run a lot and this things HOT a lot of times. Have the computers become cooler running now vs. then? I am interesting in upgrading, but my main concern is the heat. I just don't enjoy a private space heater here in the desert...
I use ComputerTime application for managing parental controls on my Windows machines. However, I do not know of an equivalent application on the Mac. Is there an application for the Mac that offers parental control like:
1. Specifying when a child can log in to the Mac? 2. What day a child can use the Mac? 3. How much time is allowed per day for use on the Mac and where each session totalled up will not exceed the total allowed time per day? 4. How long each session is allowed?
I have an older PowerPC G5 with dual 1.8 GHz. Recently I replaced the Power Supply and now the two fans on the back run at high speed all the time. There is no heat problem anywhere. In fact after an hour or two of running I opened the case and everything was cool to the touch. Not even warm! Is there a way I can get the fans to slow down?
During the summer, I don't have A/C in my house. My temps were getting pretty high, around 55C/130F for processors and up to 78c/172f for ram. That is pretty high, and I suspect it is because the ambient temp in my room is somewhere in the 90s. I am just very acclimated to the heat, and it doesn't bother me.
I downloaded SMC Fan control and bumped the min fan speeds up to: 1250rpm for Exhaust 1150rpm for CPU 800rpm for Power Supply 1350rpm for HD
This has made a tremendous difference. CPU is down over 20C and ram is down about 30-35C. Are these fan speeds safe? What are the Mac Pro fans rated at, and will the increased speed shorten their lifespan? I'd like to keep these current fan speeds if it is safe.
What is wrong with this picture? The fans are running out of control constantly. This machine is sooo loud. The power supply was just replaced, which did little/nothing. Reset all ram/etc.
Setup: MB Pro. early 2009 2.93 Ghz, 8GB RAM, 2 hard drives via optibay Request: Utility to better sleep the hard drives/fans when not being used
Problem: With the two hard drive setup, battery life is reduced. I knew this going in. So, I would like to purchase a utility that allows for better management of the MB Pro hardware so that, say when I am only reading something on screen with no needed hard drive activity, the hard drive goes to sleep faster than the current energy management application requires. This would help increase battery life some (not back to pre two drive setup, but better than now). I want to good utility and cost is no object because the cheap, even free utilities I have used in the past on other things like cleaning your mac tend to make the computer act funny (just trust me on this one).
I've been wondering if there's an application for Mac OSX [ Or even Windows ] where you can build iPhone Applications with drag and drop or kind of WYSIWYG. Something easy and not hard.
I recently purchased a Panasonic Lumix DMC-Zs7, & I am reading about it's video formats. It shoots AVCHD lite movies and motion jpg movies. I would like to be able to burn these raw movie files unedited to blank DVDs, so my family can view them right away, in the excitement of filming, they are eager to see the results. They do not like to wait for me to do the complex & tedious process of video editing with titles etc, to play. Being able to just burn the raw files for immediate viewing relives me of the burden of complex video editing, of which I do not enjoy very much, & makes family happy, to get the video out of the camera to the DVD player & TV. We have a Philips DVD player that says it can play Divx movies, & an analog tube TV.
So is there a quick painless way that I can get the raw files out of the camera and onto DVD for viewing on a TV. Or is the raw material only viewable on the camera & computer? If the only way to get this material to DVD is by complex video editing, I could be stuck editing literally hours of footage that my family likes to film, they have the film bug, & like to film everything.
Normal browsing with no flash my CPU draws from 2.5 watts to 6 watts on average, when flash is going my CPU jumps to 40 watts or more. Not a problem I understand that it's going to use more power because flash is a power hog.
Problem is when I close the tab or window that contained the flash I would assume that my CPU would drop back down to the 4 watts it seems to average. That is not always the case, in fact more often than not it would not drop down until I restarted my browser, this was true in Firefox and Safari.
Anyone else experiencing this? My fans have been going pretty much nonstop audibly since the 10.6 install. The "normal" for the fans is about 2000rpm, and now they RARELY dip under 3000, and the "new norm" is a very audible 4000-5000rmps.
I have a Mac Pro 2xQuad 2.66Ghz and the cores are always really hot even when idle. When I chat and surf the Internet I only use ca. 3% of the cores however the temperatures are at ca. 80 C and higher when I do work.
So I decided to Install SMC Fancontrol, however there is a big problem I can download it fine, I unwrap the zip fine and I can open the application. However as soon as I type in my password nothing happens. Its really frustrating because I cannot do anything I cant even delete it as it apparently is still running.
I think I did a control click on an application trying to make an alias following a webtip and now I have a blue dot when the app is highlighted, or if I'm not clicked on the app it shows up highlighted blue. what does this mean and how do I get rid of it? I tried control clicking the item again and it's still there. It's just annoying to look at. Ideas? I googled it, I'm sure it's some Leopard feature but I dunno what it is,
just a question. How to make some application or folders not be accesible to anyone? example, when someone click a email apple program, he cant access it.
What's annoying with the new Expose is that is isn't very consistent.
Apps never open in either Cmd1 version (alphabetical) or cmd2 (sorted by apps), it uses some third option where sometimes your window is at the very last of the list.
Is there anyway to force sort by app or alphabetical?
My last.fm application automatically launches when I open iTunes, because it has a plugin in iTunes.I have a nice lyrics application called Get Lyrics that automatically downloads lyrics as I listen, and I'd like it to automatically launch with iTunes as well.I don't want it to launch at login, only when I open iTunes.
the other day i wake up and open my macbook pro and immediately heard the fan making noises ive never heard it make before. i checked istat pro. the fans were going at 2000rpm. this is when i started to get concerned since i would never hear the fans at that speed before. the difference was day and night. it sounds like the one or both of the fans are hitting something. i always hear the noise when i start up or wake up from sleep and after a while (30 minutes to an hour) it usually goes away but has come back once without me turning off or putting the computer to sleep. its a refurbished less than a little more than a month ago. im hoping its just some dirt that made it through keyboard and will eventually go away because i dont want to send my machine in to get manhandled by apple repair. has anyone had something like this happen before?
Do you know these 2 icons on the right, one for apps and one for docs? How fast are your animation before it shows up the menu wiht all apps inside? Mine seems a bit slow, like on a pc with an old or not updated video card. My MPB is 1 month old. i'm sure it was faster with fresh MACOS installed. More icons in it = slower?
Is there anyway to make Yahoo my default mail app, using Leopard 10.5.1? I can't seem to find anything on Yahoo's site.
Along those same lines, it's very annoying when I accidentally click a link, then Mail.app opens. However, I don't use Mail. Can I just delete the app?
If so, what would happen if I did accidentally click an emailto link (assuming that Yahoo can't yet be a default mail app)?
I've been trying to install some software, however, every time I try to do the "make" command on a Makefile, I get the following error: -bash: make: command not found. The manual page does not exists either. I have no idea why the "make" command doesn't exists. I might have added a missing command in the past, but I don't remember. I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.7. Can anyone guess what the problem is?
I am using OSX Snow Leopard. It's really great, but the folders and items within them are a total mess. When I copy or move anything to a folder, all the other icons move and icons even appear on top of one and other. Please is there any way to stop this - is there an app or something that will make the folders as tidy looking as they are on Windows? And please leave out all the Mac/Windows fanboy stuff - I have no problems with either OS.
