View 24 RepliesIn Mac OSX Finder in the Shared Section, I'd like to change one of the computer Icons.
Example:
As you can see, I'd like to change the PC's BSOD Icon to something like this.
I have an older e-mac that I use and the display suddenly became distorted and stretched. I can't see all of the words in finder or even the apple icon to shut down the computer...it has stretched far off of the display.I tried the display settings in system preferences and tried to adjust settings in geometry I can adjust the height but not the width.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was BBMing while trying to plug in my headphones with my pheripherals, and I accidentally pushed it (not very hard) into the USB port. The tip of the headphone jack connected with the little connector ball at the bottom of the USB port. The screen went black and I instantly hit the power button on instinct, so I don't know if it shut off. Did I do something very bad, or is that normal? I'm not sure if that's even considered an electric shock or what.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a Canon printer and I was going through the manual through the canon application (not the book manual) and it seems like somehow the manual is tied into my final cut express app. Shouldn't my canon manual have some sort of canon icon. The icon that is showing is a lego block with the final cut express picture. How can I get the correct icon on there? When I click on quick look it says "Final Cut Express Plugin File." Should the final cut express icon be showing up for this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedToday I tried to change the finder icon in the dock. Because I'm cheap, I dont have candybar, so I tried to use liteicon. While this changed the finder icon in messages like "do you want to empty trash," it did not change it on the dock, even after logging out and relaunching the dock.
So I went into a bunch of core services and replaced all the finder .icns and .pngs with the one I wanted to use. When I relaunched the dock, the finder was invisible, but it still had the little blue "open" dot below where it was.I downloaded the candybar trial to try to fix it, but even candybar didn't get the icon back.
I'm using 10.5.8. Where are all the places the finder icon should be to show up?
Wasn't this an option previous to 10.7.4? It doesn't work now. When clicking the Finder icon in the Dock, a new Finder window would open? I know about Finder prefs - General - Always open folders in new window but this isn't what I mean.I'd have a Finder window open then want to copy/move something so I clicked on the Finder icon in the dock to get a new window.Every time I clicked the Dock icon, I'd get a new Finder window.
View 7 Replies View RelatedToday is the 19th and my ical dock icon is displaying the 18th. My dates and times are correct in my preferences and display properly every where else. When I launch ical it is also on the proper date and the dock icon will display the proper date as long as ical is open. When I close ical the dock icon displays the wrong date again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just tried to re-arrange my launch pad icons (having read these forums searching an answer for my issue, i now realise this is pointless since Launchpad will move them back). Â
However, Google Chrome now has the Skype Icon. Skype now has the Spotify icon etc... How do i change them back? Â

My cursor still changes based on the context, like hovering over a link or in a text field, but displays the wrong icon. After focusing a text field, the cursor is a reggular arrow in the text editor and turns to the text staff outside of it when it should be an arrow. I just did a fresh install of 10.6.8 on a crucial m4 - ct256m4ssd Â
I FOUND THAT RESIZING THE MOUSE CURSOR IN THE UNIVERSAL ACCESSS PREFERENCES temporarily restores the cursor to a size-adjusted mouse, until I do something like click in a text field.

Is there anyway to change an applications dock icon while leaving the icon in finder different?
View 6 Replies View Relatedits frustrating me that my finder /folder windows always open the same/wrong way. (at least not how i want them to.) i want them to open in list view, with name column first-- and i want that column width x -- then size column next, width y -- etc but every time i open a new window that has yet to be told what to do, it always starts in icon view with no idea how wide i want the columns once i switch it to List. this is a big deal for me because i create a lot of new folders similarly, i'm amazed at how buggy icon-grids can be in osx i find when i have a folder window open a lot-- moving new icons in and out -- the grid suddenly moves and now the icons that've been sitting there for a while are now suddenly confused and out of the new grid.
the one NEW icon that reset the grid layout feels it's on the grid, but then i have to move all the others -- sometimes when i do this, the folder window FLIPS OUT and shoots the icon way off to the left, etc, throwing off my meticulously sized window and making me replace ALL the icons on the grid.
Finder reported that I had about 360 GB of free space. But right now it's reporting that I have 435. The only thing I have removed from my computer is Adobe Flash, which is not nearly that large. In system information, it does report that I have 88 GB of backups and 346 GB of free space, but why would the Finder all of a sudden report such a drastic change in free space?

I partitioned my disk using Terminal's diskutil. I decided i didnt need the partition anymore, so i deleted it (using Disk Utility.app) and added the free space to my mac partition. Basically, Finder and Terminal dont show the free space added back, and Disk Utility shows the space added back to the disk. I tried restarting, repairing disk (which coincidentally had an unrelated problem), repairing permissions, but the problem is still happening

Was wondering can the Finder icon be moved around in the dock? I'd like to be able to move it, instead of having it on the left hand side of the dock.

I am trying to get pictures off an SD card that I have in a card reader, plugged into the USB port. I'm not finding an icon for this anywhere! I've tried 2 card readers, as well as plugging my camera right into the USB port, and none of them show up! It was working just find 2 days ago, and now it's not. The USB port shows up in System Profiler, but not in Disk Utility.Â

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy ibook was running really slow, so i decided to get some more memory. i'm no computer expert but i used to work in the IT dept and have replaced memory before (in pc's).
Anyway, i went to my local computer store, told the guy there what kind of computer i had. (ibook G4, 14-inch with a built-in memory and an empty slot). He looked it up on the system, figured out what i needed and i bought it. It was a Corsair 1GB DDR2 667mhz. He said it was exactly what i needed. I didn't question him.
Tonight, i go to install it, and it doesn't go in easily. I got it in though, and turned on my computer, and it wouldn't start. i took it out, and it started fine.
I went to some online forums about installing memory on my specific model and people were saying you really need to force it in there, more than you think would even be safe, but it takes a lot of force to get it in, so i thought maybe it didn't work the first time because it wasn't in all the way. i kept trying, and i got it in further, thinking i did it. i went to turn on the computer, dead.
So, i took out the memory, and now my computer still won't start. NOTHING.
I went back to the store, told them what happened, and i spoke to a different salesman than yesterday, and when this guy looked at what i bought, he said it was definitely not the correct one.
He said DDR2 is definitely not compatible with the older iBook. He also said that he looked on his system to find out what type i really need, but the system wouldn't show my model (because its a few years old). Pretty much, he said that the other employee messed up because the computer wouldn't even show him what i would need.
But what i would like to know is what's wrong with my computer exactly? did the mother board fry? did i lose everything? do i need to send it into mac for repair? how screwed am i? and also, is the store responsible for this at all?
The sad part to this story is that in early august of this year, this laptop's battery stopped working, and it was a problem with the power supply. I sent it off to mac and they fixed it, but when it was returned, it wasn't turning on. i sent it back again and they said the motherboard had to be replaced. luckily that happened a month before my extended warranty expired, but this time, i don't have a warranty anymore.
Any insight on my problem? Please someone, cheer me up. Tell me there is something i can do to save my computer and that my motherboard isnt fried again.
Can putting the wrong memory in your computer completely ruin it?
I am trying to see how to fix the permissions on my computer. I have ran the fix permissions from the Disk Utility until it says everything is fine. I have even booted from a Snow Leopard disk to run fix permissions and repair disk. Still having the same problem.  The problem is, that in the finder I still keep getting errors saying extension "x" could not be used because it was not installed correctly. The computer crashed while doing an update so I believe this to be what caused the problem. I have way to many applications to have to reinstall each one. I have the old extension folders for the Library and System (that I know are fine) but cannot figure out what to boot from that will show the old finder so I can replace them (and I obviously cannot replace them on an active system). Unfortuately all my latest TimeMachine BU have the corrupt system now too. I want to update to Lion but not with a corrupt system.

My MacBook internal hard disk is currently partitioned into Snow Leopard (JHFS+), Storage (NTFS), and Windows 7 (NTFS). Whenever I try to mount my storage partition, it shows up as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" in Disk Utility, and refuses to mount. My Windows 7 partition, which is also NTFS, mounts automatically when I log in. Is there a way to perhaps force my storage partition to mount as an NTFS-formatted drive? This problem only exists when using OS X though, as it shows up fine on both Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7.
I also have an external hard drive which is partitioned (using MBR) as Storage (FAT32), Backup (NTFS) and Mac Storage (JHFS+). It all mounts properly, with the exception of Mac Storage, which shows up, curiously enough, as an NTFS drive in Disk Utility. Same question as above: Is there a way to force it to mount as a JHFS+ drive? (I'm using Tuxera NTFS 2010.10, if that makes any difference).
I tried to set-up a parental control but set it up wrong. Now when i go to undo the changes a made system preferences crashes every time. What can i do?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an extensive collection of fonts (60,0000+). Several hundred of them will crash my system when I open one of them in Finder (double-click the suitcase). I picked one at random for some serious examination. I looked at my sample with many font tools. My latest tool was FontDoctor (v5 and v7). FontDoctor reported "no problems found" with my font. Yet the crash persists. Any tool that can do a thorough job of investigating and repairing my corrupt fonts.

I restored my mac from time machine, downgrade from Mac OS X 10.10 to 10.9.3. After that the position of the input method selection box is not right. The right place should be: After typing continually, the selection box jump to left edge of the screen: The problem occured in IM, word, web browser, etc. It's all right before I restored from time machine, in both 10.9.3 and 10.10. Some of my firends has the same problem.Â

This may seem like a really silly question, but how do you change the icon for finder? I can't seem to get to the 'get info' bit to change it. I can do it for everything else, just not finder!
