Finder reported that I had about 360 GB of free space. But right now it's reporting that I have 435. The only thing I have removed from my computer is Adobe Flash, which is not nearly that large. In system information, it does report that I have 88 GB of backups and 346 GB of free space, but why would the Finder all of a sudden report such a drastic change in free space?

I love the new stacks in snow leopard but sometimes I find myself wanting to space bar to preview etc and I can't so I want to quickly launch the finder into that folder. Is there a way? ie a hotkey and a click etc.
Ever since I bootcamped my Mac with Windows XP Professional, whenever I restart or boot up in OSX my time is always behind by 6 hours. I went into the settings and unchecked the set date and time automatically but it keeps giving me the wrong time.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI understand that time machine doesn't back up certain directories, and so the actual backup size is different, but why does the log say that my drive has 210gb of free space after time machine, but the mounted volume say it has 226gb free? I recently deleted my timemachine plist and reformatted my external oak to start time machine fresh. Is this a difference between metric an binary counting of bytes?

I just reinstalled Lion from a fresh harddrive. I did not use the migration asistance to pull files over to the new drive, I selested files and dragged them over, So not to fill the drive with things I dont need....
So I "Get info" on the main harddrive it shows Which is crazy! Then I use Disk Invintory and it shows:

I have the MacBook Pro 2010 13" and recently I've noticed my disc space is slowly decreasing with use.
Im not downloading files or anything, but today I lost around 600 MB of space, I just kept opening my Finder to discover less and less disc space each time.
Is this normal or do I have a problem, this is the first time I've noticed it in the month and a half I've owned the machine.
I'm using a 1 Gb pen drive, and I've just noticed that I can't even change a file's name because the system says something like "the operation cannot be completed because the disk "x" is full. Delete some files and try again" (please note that my system is in Spanish and the translation might differ).
The point is that I can see "85 MB available" in the status bar... Some files I can change them, some others I can't... I can copy some files and some others I cannot... What's going on here?
I have a SSD I use for storage in my Macbook, I was running out of space so I removed some old junk. Anyway, now OSX doesn't seem to see the free space correctly. Just wondering what the deal is. It is showing 1.6 GB free, but only about 30 GB is being used:
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 500GB external hard drive that is partitioned into 3 sections - [1] Mac OS extended for dedicated time machine backups (200GB), [2] Mac OS extended for general file storage (100GB) and [3] FAT32 for backing up my husband's windows PC (the rest). I've been doing some video editing and moving clips between the external HD and my macbook. But now I've finished I noticed that something weird has happened. The Mac partition of the external HD currently has only 3 files, around 1.2GB. But Finder is showing 77GB is used and therefore not letting me copy my DV footage (around 40GB) that I want to transfer to a friend's computer.
I've put a screenshot here - and have hidden files/folders displayed. So what is taking up the 76GB that finder says is used?

Boot camp went wrong because I had to reboot my macbook while windows 7 was being installed. After that, I deleted the 32gb windows partition. But guess what? Disk utility says that my free space is 468 gb, when before boot camp I had 493gb.

View 24 Replies View Relatedits frustrating me that my finder /folder windows always open the same/wrong way. (at least not how i want them to.) i want them to open in list view, with name column first-- and i want that column width x -- then size column next, width y -- etc but every time i open a new window that has yet to be told what to do, it always starts in icon view with no idea how wide i want the columns once i switch it to List. this is a big deal for me because i create a lot of new folders similarly, i'm amazed at how buggy icon-grids can be in osx i find when i have a folder window open a lot-- moving new icons in and out -- the grid suddenly moves and now the icons that've been sitting there for a while are now suddenly confused and out of the new grid.
the one NEW icon that reset the grid layout feels it's on the grid, but then i have to move all the others -- sometimes when i do this, the folder window FLIPS OUT and shoots the icon way off to the left, etc, throwing off my meticulously sized window and making me replace ALL the icons on the grid.
I partitioned my disk using Terminal's diskutil. I decided i didnt need the partition anymore, so i deleted it (using Disk Utility.app) and added the free space to my mac partition. Basically, Finder and Terminal dont show the free space added back, and Disk Utility shows the space added back to the disk. I tried restarting, repairing disk (which coincidentally had an unrelated problem), repairing permissions, but the problem is still happening

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a little problem in that i wished to delete things from my time machine to make room (thats before i realised it did it anyway when it was full)the only way i found to do it was to empty to trash that was the only option that was given to me now it is in the trash it will not delete, i have read articles on here but they do not seem to work so wondered if anyone has managed to do this as i have over 23000 files in the trash that will not delete my local apple shop suggested deleting the time machine but the only option i get is to send to trash which i am reluctant to do

The available HD space shown at the bottom of the finder window shows 650 gb and the "get Info" window for the HD shows the same. If i look at the HD in "Disk Utility" or in "System Report" from "About this Mac", it shows 490 gb, which is what it should be by my calculations. I have installed a new SSHD a few weeks ago but it showed the correct available HD space in all locations at that time. Just the other day i noticed the higher available number at the bottom of the finder window, Have performed a "disk repair" and "permissions repair" with no effect. Running OS 10.9 mavericks on a macbook late 08. 8GB ram and 750 gb SSHD.

I have a Macbook Pro (13") running snow leopard and have a partitioned hard drive (half OS X and half Windows 7). This morning I was using the Mac side and was running low on disk space (very low) so I was moving desktop files into folders to free up some space. I restarted the computer to see what the free space was but the computer stopped/froze at the desktop image (no folders or dock appeared. I restarted the computer many times but the finder never opens and all I see is the desktop wallpaper. I donnected usb drives and put in dvds but the finder never appears so I cn do nothing but shut down and start up.
I ran Disk Utility but it found no problems with the disk. I do not have a backup of the important file forlders on my drive and due to low disk space I am worried to reinstall and archive the OS since there may not be enough disk space to archive (only about 220 mb free on the apple side when I am in windows using bootcamp).

my Mac started saying I need to free up space on my Startup Disk. I was suprised, but as I've been doing some film work, I just thought it must take up even more space than I thought. Anway, I free'd up loads of spaced, I moved all my film files to an external disk, deleted them from where they were, and emptied the trash. I've got rid of other things like Internet cache and downloads, basically, I know i have space now. However, my Mac insists on saying I only have about 2Gb free. On another site, someone recommended something called Disk Inventory X, which gives a visual picture of what files etc are taking up space on the Mac. I ran this, and low and behold I have 166Gb free. The screen shot below shows the big blue square of free space. If you can zoom in, it shows this as something outside of the home 'Tiger' thing, under Users - .tiger, as though its partitioned or something?! I don't really understand how Mac's work under the hood of pretty buttons etc, so I'm a bit stuck now.

I have my Mac Pro set up to boot at a certain time every morning using the energy saver schedule feature. I have also set a disk I've named "Lion HD" as my startup disk. I also have a disk named "Lion HD back up" which is an exact bootable clone created with "super duper". Every now & then the computer boots into the Lion backup rather than the Lion HD. Any ideas why this happens & what I can do to fix it?

I know about Finder prefs - General - Always open folders in new window but this isn't what I mean.I'd have a Finder window open then want to copy/move something so I clicked on the Finder icon in the dock to get a new window.Every time I clicked the Dock icon, I'd get a new Finder window.

I just discovered KeyChain. Great idea! However, when I chose iCloud and entered the password to view iCloud password, there was, what appeared to be enough random letters, numbers and symbols to fill the entire data entry window. I looked at other passwords and only one other was weird. can I changed a passeord when I am in KeyChain?
