May 31, 2009In Mac OSX Finder in the Shared Section, I'd like to change one of the computer Icons.
Example:
As you can see, I'd like to change the PC's BSOD Icon to something like this.

OS X :: How Do I Remove A Shared Device From The Finder Sidebar
Mar 6, 2009I've googled and search here, and I just can't find the answer to this.
I renamed one of my computers at home. Now both instances of it show up in the Shared section of the finder sidebar and I can't remove the old one. When I do a Get Info, it shows as a PC Server, but I can't actually access anything on it. Is there any way to keep this from showing up?
OS X :: Finder - Shared Computer Drive Bewilderment
Jan 2, 2009I am trying to find out how to change the way finder presents itself while it is looking at a shared computer, because it appears to be doing this incorrectly, or is messed up some how. If you look at the screen shot of the highlighted drives of this shared computer, you will notice there are multiple instances of drive J and I would like to remove the repeated link. Also some of the drives have names associated with them, while others do not. I cannot figure out why some take the name given to the drive under windows in the macs finder window and why some do not? To throw another odd question in, drive G is not labeled movies anywhere, but rather is a drive labeled TV Shows under windows. Rebooting does nothing, as this has been there for months, even after a restore.

Jan 2, 2010I am playing with my Dock icons and downloaded some nice 3D's. When I tried to change the Finder icon, (used copy paste of the new icon to the Finder in system/library/core services/finder) it worked for the icon (in the folder) but will not change in the dock. I have relaunched the Finder, restarted, logged in and out. The new icon appears changed both in the core services and also in Finder contents folder, (Finder icns.) but the Dock icon remains the same.

I figured no biggie, when I got away from the head office they'd go away. But they didn't. And I can't figure out how to get rid of them.See attached photo.

I've read several places that all of the icons are held in /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources. Well, I've gone there, and I cannot find the Mac mini 2010 icon. Every single other computer is there, including the old pre-2010 minis, except for my computer itself. So, where is the icon in the system?

Dec 2, 2008I have a black macbook, and the icon in my sidebar is a white macbook. I'd like to change this to be accurate to my computer. I came up with a "fix" of sorts, but I'm looking for a better one. Here's why:
In coretypes.bundle>Contents>Resources, I see both black and white macbook icons (com.apple.macbook-black.icns and com.apple.macbook-white.icns). I backed up the white one and copied the black one over the original white one. That makes my computer icon black, but it also makes my wife's white macbook have the black icon in the shared section of the sidebar.
I changed everything back, and made sure that imac.icns is the black macbook; it was originally, but I backed it up and rewrote it by copying the black macbook icon anyway. No dice, my icon is still white.
Is there any way to make the icons accurate for both my computer and my wife's? I know it's aesthetic, but now it's become a pet peeve of mine.
OS X :: PC Server Is Showing As A Shared/Network Device?
Jul 5, 2009I'm new to mac and don't have any idea on how I got this one. I already tried to restart my machine but the "ibmt61l3cv479" keeps on displaying on the Shared list. I didn't connect to any PC Servers and afraid that someone is accessing my mac.

For example, my Mac Pro tower has 4 disks and when I boot up all 4 disks are mounted. Then, when I turn on my Macbook Air and turn on my MacBook Pro, those laptops show up in Finder as shared. The Macbook Pro is partitioned, so it would be nice if I could specify which disk to mount in Finder.

Oct 1, 2009Today I tried to change the finder icon in the dock. Because I'm cheap, I dont have candybar, so I tried to use liteicon. While this changed the finder icon in messages like "do you want to empty trash," it did not change it on the dock, even after logging out and relaunching the dock.
So I went into a bunch of core services and replaced all the finder .icns and .pngs with the one I wanted to use.When I relaunched the dock, the finder was invisible, but it still had the little blue "open" dot below where it was.I downloaded the candybar trial to try to fix it, but even candybar didn't get the icon back.
I'm using 10.5.8. Where are all the places the finder icon should be to show up?

It doesn't work now.When clicking the Finder icon in the Dock, a new Finder window would open? I know about Finder prefs - General - Always open folders in new window but this isn't what I mean.I'd have a Finder window open then want to copy/move something so I clicked on the Finder icon in the dock to get a new window.Every time I clicked the Dock icon, I'd get a new Finder window.

However, when I open Finder on my MacBook Pro it shows all shared computers in the area. From my MacBook Pro I can see the shared Mac Air, but nothing in shared of Mac Air. Sep 8, 2009New user here, I'm showing "your-w92*******" I blanked out the rest, with a little monitor icon under "SHARED" in my finder? Any clue as to what it is and how I can get rid of it? If I right click I only get Open or Get Info as options. If I click Open I get "Connection Failed". If I click on Get Info it displays "PC Server" under kind. I did try to get my MBP to print in my PCs HP printer (unsucessfully) using cups. So I don't know if that had anything to do with it. I'd just like to delete it but don't know how.

Jan 6, 2011I downloaded and installed the updates for the OS and now there is no "shared" section in the finder at all. Shared items are checked in the preferences. Selecting "go" and "network" doesn't do anything. I checked in the system preferences and the name of the workgroup is correct. The other computers in the workgroup can see my shared folders, but I can no longer see anything shared.

Aug 3, 2009I just got an iMac. For the first few hours it was turned on, my MBP showed up in the iMac's Finder, and vice versa. However now, for the past two days, neither Mac has shown up in the others Finder. Connecting to afp://[their ip address] lets me see the public folders, but I still can't use the shared iTunes libraries, or share screens.
The same thing happened with the MBP and other Windows/Linux devices on the network, as well as my jailbroken iPod with Netatalk installed, but I just chalked that up to the klugey nature of mixed networking. Guess that wasn't the problem.

Software :: Can't View Shared Folder(s) In Finder?
May 21, 2009I'm connected via Airport to my company's wireless network. Last week I was able to connect to this network via my Macbook. Went home this weekend, come back and now I can connect and browse the internet, but I can't view the "Shared" folder with other people's public folders and shared files. Any idea what may be wrong?
I don't believe anything has changed, as over the weekend all I did was connect to two wireless networks at my house.
I have no idea what's causing this, and it's making it difficult to retrieve files I need for certain projects.
Intel Mac :: Extra PC Shown Under Finder Shared
Jan 31, 2012As a new Mac user and as the result of my machinations in the iMac Lion OS, I managed to wind up with an extra PC showing in the Shared section of the Finder Sidebar. I show my wife's PC and Time Capsule but I have an extra PC named Gerry581e of which I have no idea. I would like to know how to delete it from the list.
