I have found some commands to call up key codes for the letter keys but I need to know how to call up the other keys. Would it be easier to just make a script in the script editor. I'm not a mac / unix guy and I realize that this is really simple I'm just new at it.

May 11, 2008My Macbook screen is getting a bit dusty, and when outside I can see there are a few smears on it too, so I'm looking to give it a good clean so that it returns to its former glory.
What's the best way of doing this? I don't particularly want to use water, but a piece of toilet roll run across the screen gently doesn't really give it the clean that it needs!

MacBook Pro :: How To Clean Inside Of LCD Screen
Aug 13, 2009I was working on my 15" (2.2GHz) MBP when a tiny little bug started crawling across my computer screen. I tried just blowing and waving it off, but it kept on just crawling around, paying no attention to my protests. So I smushed it, like it deserved. I gently pressed against the screen with my thumb and that should have been that - a little wipe and back to work.
There is a problem. It turns out, the little bug was INSIDE the screen! I didn't have the lights on so it was just backlit and I couldn't tell that it was inside! Somehow it got in between the glass and the reflector (or something like that) and is now a mushy mess (albeit a very small one - 2mmx1mm) right in the center of the screen.
How can I clean this mess? I JUST (as in 3 weeks ago) had the display replaced through AppleCare but I'm pretty sure this kind of things falls squarely between the "acts of nature" and "acts of negligence" clauses in the warranty.
I've removed the display and bezels, but chickened out once it came time to pull the LCD. Plus, I don't even know if it is possible to further dismantle the LCD anyway so...
Anyone know if it is possible to separate the layers of an LCD? I'm not even sure what those layers are. Maybe over time the bug will just dehydrate and burn away, but I doubt it.
MacBook :: Best Way To Clean Keyboard Marks On Screen?
Jul 7, 2010I own a Black macbook (summer 2008, so about two years old) which is in good condition except that it is dirty - especially the screen, which seems to have picked up keyboard marks which won't seem to come out. I have been reading about the best way to clean it, and there seem to be 4 general suggestions:
1. Clean using a damp microfiber cloth like an eyeglasses cleaner.
2. Clean using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
3. Clean using soap & water.
4. Purchase a specific mac cleaning toolkit like iKlear.
I tried option (1) a while ago and it cleaned the black macbook's body pretty well but not the screen. I have heard that (2) is great for the body but that it will damage the screen because the magic eraser is like "damp sand paper." That doesn't sound very screen-friendly. I have also heard that (3) will damage the screen's protective coating, though theoretically soap should be able to lift off any oily residue on the screen. (4) could work but it is more expensive, and I am not sure if it will work or not. Modern macs are fabulous and should be good enough to last years and years. I am hoping this one will last at least 3 more, making a total of 5 years, but I want to keep it clean.

May 18, 2010A couple years ago, there was a recall on MacBook Pro (C2D) batteries as a result of them expanding and bulging. As I experienced those symptoms, I called Apple and got a replacement shipped no problem. Fast forward to a year and a half or-so later, and the same thing has happened to this battery. I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to if I'd still be eligible to get a replacement for it, free of charge - since I don't have a warranty. Is the recall still valid? Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated - worse comes to worse, I'll have to buy an aftermarket battery, since I can't afford Apples at the moment.

Aug 8, 2009I got a Speck hard shell for my 17'' unibody and I love it in all respects (beautiful, MBP doesn't run hoter, rubberized, tough) except for its weight (over 1 lb). It tips the weight of the MBP from very bearable into too heavy. Any alternatives? I'm not looking for protection from dings but just small scratches.

Jul 17, 2010A few months ago, i noticed what looked like a streak across the screen, but it wasnt on the outside, it was on the under side of the glass. Now, the streak is very visible esp in natural lighting. Its not noticable at night, because the screen light shines through it making it invisible.
It looks like dust? But im not 100% sure, but it has a directional pattern which leads me to believe its being causes by the inner fans of the system, and that there are some gaps where the air flow is constant. Also, the streak is in the upper left hand corner mostly (no where on the bottom poritions). Im assuming that the place holder at the top-backside of the iMac, for the exhaust fans to expell the heat from within, is what is causing this air flow.

Feb 2, 2012I've been having problems with my mid 2009 2.53GHz MacBook Pro 15" not waking up from sleep after I open the clamshell (screen) back up. When I open the screen after letting it sit for a while, I can hear the HDD spinning up and the status light on the bottom of the MacBook turns off (like it normally does when the clamshell is opened), but the screen is black and there is absolutely no response in any key combinations or trackpad taps. I've been having this problem for about a month now and its getting pretty annoying. I've tried a total wipe of the disk and a fresh Lion install with a full TimeMachine restore, but I'm having absolutely no luck. The only thing that can bring the MBP back to life is a hard restart. Sometimes when I hard restart it, it comes back to life right where I let off (basically like when the battery loses all its juice and restores everything thats open), but most of the time, it starts up like a normal boot with no restore.
