I am sure this has probably been asked a million times but is there anyway to touch up a black mark thats on my macbookpro. It doesn't look like a scratch, more the aluminum finish has rubbed off or been scratched slightly.
View 1 RepliesI dropped my BlackBook, and now when I start it up its stays gray screen for a little while, and then a folder with a flashing question mark comes up. I researched it and it said to run off the restore disk and then run disk repair. Well I did, and I got "Invalid Node Structure, Volume check failed. Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed." I even tried going in to single-user mode with CMD+S, but it didn't do it. Same with safe mode. Could DiskWarrior help me or is my hard drive permanently damaged from the impact? Do I have to erase and restore? Or will that not even work?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my screen - when there is something black on, I can see a faint mark of a lighter colour. I have tried to take a picture, please excuse the poor quality. There is nothing visible when the screen is off, even under close examination. Is it less visible when lighter things are on the screen, and invisible when the screen is white.
No drops or liquid spills. Will this go away on it's own? Any fixes?
I have only recently started noticing this, it is mostly visible on the white screen at boot up but just faintly noticed it now against my background.
It is a fading black line going down the left hand side of the screen, it starts at the top kind of fades in the middle then comes out again.
I honestly have no idea what this is, i will try catch a picture on my phone soon and post it up.

UPDATE: Sometimes the line is clear, sometimes it is faint and even sometimes it isn't even there!

There is already a light scratch on the screen from my dumness.
A couple years ago, there was a recall on MacBook Pro (C2D) batteries as a result of them expanding and bulging. As I experienced those symptoms, I called Apple and got a replacement shipped no problem. Fast forward to a year and a half or-so later, and the same thing has happened to this battery. I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to if I'd still be eligible to get a replacement for it, free of charge - since I don't have a warranty. Is the recall still valid? Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated - worse comes to worse, I'll have to buy an aftermarket battery, since I can't afford Apples at the moment.

I got a Speck hard shell for my 17'' unibody and I love it in all respects (beautiful, MBP doesn't run hoter, rubberized, tough) except for its weight (over 1 lb). It tips the weight of the MBP from very bearable into too heavy. Any alternatives? I'm not looking for protection from dings but just small scratches.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a new 15inch Macbook Pro. Upon opening it, the first thing I did was drop my alarm clock on it. This put a little dent on the top front behind the screen. This made me realize that maybe I should pick up a hardshell case to prevent anymore dents. But, upon investigation, there are no hardshell cases that fit the magsafe cable.Or is this not true? Are there brands besides Speck and incase that would fit the new MBP?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been having problems with my mid 2009 2.53GHz MacBook Pro 15" not waking up from sleep after I open the clamshell (screen) back up. When I open the screen after letting it sit for a while, I can hear the HDD spinning up and the status light on the bottom of the MacBook turns off (like it normally does when the clamshell is opened), but the screen is black and there is absolutely no response in any key combinations or trackpad taps. I've been having this problem for about a month now and its getting pretty annoying. I've tried a total wipe of the disk and a fresh Lion install with a full TimeMachine restore, but I'm having absolutely no luck. The only thing that can bring the MBP back to life is a hard restart. Sometimes when I hard restart it, it comes back to life right where I let off (basically like when the battery loses all its juice and restores everything thats open), but most of the time, it starts up like a normal boot with no restore.

I have an account in Mail.app that won't let me do anything to the e-mails coming into it. I can't delete e-mails, I can't mark them as read, and if I try to move an e-mail to another mailbox, it's copied, not moved.I've tried repairing disk permissions, and I've tried to remove the account and then adding it again ? but the problem persists. "Rebuild" in the Mailbox menu is inactive when this mailbox is selected, but works on my other accounts.The same account works fine on my iPhone; mails are getting marked as read and I can delete and move e-mails around. View 17 Replies View RelatedWhen I have my macbook hooked up to external monitor it works great unitl I put it to sleep. Sometimes it kicks right up to the external monitor but the majority of the time it cant reconnect to the monitor. It just turns blue then off then blue likes its trying to figure out what to do eventually it says out of range. I then have to unplug the external monitor, wake up my mac with the screen open reconnect the monitor wait for it to pick up and then close it again and wah laaa it works.

I was wondering if anyone that had either of these cases could post pictures of them? I'm trying to decide which one to get get and the colors are pretty similar. I wanted to see what the actual colors look like. There are a lot of youtube videos for speck cases but not incase and I can't find any images other than the stock images (which are always off.)

View 11 Replies View RelatedOur display flickers on one side and has multicolored vertical bars running down the left side at best, or the whole screen greys out over the top of the graphical display, is physically no longer fully attached on that side near the hinge (you can press it down quite a bit after it has been closed), and the aluminum clamshell seems like it's warped. The bottom access panel has become no longer a smooth fit - it sticks up a few millimeters at the gap instead of being flat. We used to be able to hold the back left side and the screen would work, now we have been sitting it on a wooden structure with a back support and pushing it against that so we can see the screen for the past year or two. Now the flickering vertical bars are getting worse and the wooden support doesn't always work, and as an added bonus, the trackpad recently stopped working (it no longer 'clicks' and acts like it's constantly pressed down, so we have to use an external mouse with it). It's pretty frustrating because we've babied this thing (it's never been dropped or abused and has only left the house like twice, and one of those times was to take it in to see about this very problem!) and it seems like it's a manufacturing defect, but of course we never had AppleCare and this powerful expensive beast is now a desktop computer with a super hard to see screen. I've been told we need to pay $400 to get a whole new clamshell.

I just bough a 13in MBP yesterday at bestbuy because they let me get my student discount and they gave me an ipod touch for free without the rebate. So When I got home and opened it I noticed a pretty deep scratch in it right above the power button about a half an inch long that wont come out if i try to clean it. My question is do you think that would be enough of a reason to exchange it? I know its only cosmetic but I really dont think that should be there when you buy a brand new computer. What do you think?
