I have the Unibody 15" MacBook Pro, I've had it pretty much since it was first released and throughout that time it has gotten extremely dirty. The monitor has a few splotches of stuff and a lot of dust on the surface, the keyboard is just looks really dirty and underneath my keyboard is just full of crap. What products do you recommend to clean the MacBook Pro and any types of "skins/guards" i could use to cover the keyboard and the area around it?
My problem is that I have a few documents and a few Programs on the desktop and I want them to go away - without deleting them.
And not to the, sidebar. What do I do, they're not just shortcuts. I tried removing a program that I already have in the sidebar to dissapear from the desktop but I was unsuccesfull. I also want the Hard Drive to go away without deleting it ofcourse
I notice a few finger smears on my macbook pro screen, what would be best to use & clean it with? I found a silky black cloth that came with my mac along with it's booklet, is this what it is for? can i use a little water with it? does it matter if it is tap or bottled water to dampen the cloth with?
My Macbook screen is getting a bit dusty, and when outside I can see there are a few smears on it too, so I'm looking to give it a good clean so that it returns to its former glory.
What's the best way of doing this? I don't particularly want to use water, but a piece of toilet roll run across the screen gently doesn't really give it the clean that it needs!
I made the mistake of using Kensington spray on this glossy screen, and no matter what I do, I can't seem to get the smudges off now... What do YOU guys do? (assuming you clean your screeens..
I was working on my 15" (2.2GHz) MBP when a tiny little bug started crawling across my computer screen. I tried just blowing and waving it off, but it kept on just crawling around, paying no attention to my protests. So I smushed it, like it deserved. I gently pressed against the screen with my thumb and that should have been that - a little wipe and back to work.
There is a problem. It turns out, the little bug was INSIDE the screen! I didn't have the lights on so it was just backlit and I couldn't tell that it was inside! Somehow it got in between the glass and the reflector (or something like that) and is now a mushy mess (albeit a very small one - 2mmx1mm) right in the center of the screen.
How can I clean this mess? I JUST (as in 3 weeks ago) had the display replaced through AppleCare but I'm pretty sure this kind of things falls squarely between the "acts of nature" and "acts of negligence" clauses in the warranty.
I've removed the display and bezels, but chickened out once it came time to pull the LCD. Plus, I don't even know if it is possible to further dismantle the LCD anyway so...
Anyone know if it is possible to separate the layers of an LCD? I'm not even sure what those layers are. Maybe over time the bug will just dehydrate and burn away, but I doubt it.
Is there an app that cleans up old uninstalled apps preferences from the system and User Library's? I already use OnyX, MainMenu, XSlimmer and other various apps to keep my MAC running at best performance. But when I browse my Library's I see preferences for apps I don't have anymore. Instead of manually going through them all is there an automated app that looks in my Applications folder and then my Library and figures out what should stay and what should go. Also looking in /Library/Receipts/ there are also pkg files left by uninstalled apps. I know CCleaner does something similar with the Windows Registry. What MAC App will clean these left behind files?
I own a Black macbook (summer 2008, so about two years old) which is in good condition except that it is dirty - especially the screen, which seems to have picked up keyboard marks which won't seem to come out. I have been reading about the best way to clean it, and there seem to be 4 general suggestions: 1. Clean using a damp microfiber cloth like an eyeglasses cleaner. 2. Clean using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser 3. Clean using soap & water. 4. Purchase a specific mac cleaning toolkit like iKlear.
I tried option (1) a while ago and it cleaned the black macbook's body pretty well but not the screen. I have heard that (2) is great for the body but that it will damage the screen because the magic eraser is like "damp sand paper." That doesn't sound very screen-friendly. I have also heard that (3) will damage the screen's protective coating, though theoretically soap should be able to lift off any oily residue on the screen. (4) could work but it is more expensive, and I am not sure if it will work or not. Modern macs are fabulous and should be good enough to last years and years. I am hoping this one will last at least 3 more, making a total of 5 years, but I want to keep it clean.
I have a white MacBook that is about 6 months old. I wash my hands alot, but it appears as though the oil on the keys lays on the screen when the laptop is closed. I know there are many topics on here to fix oil stains (I searched). But I want to know the most efficient and safest way to clean them off of the screen, and prevent it from happening again.
What's the best way of wiping dust off a glossy screen, and generally keeping it clean? I'm hesitant to use just a soft cotton cloth in case it creates static, thus attracting even more dust.
A few months ago, i noticed what looked like a streak across the screen, but it wasnt on the outside, it was on the under side of the glass. Now, the streak is very visible esp in natural lighting. Its not noticable at night, because the screen light shines through it making it invisible.
It looks like dust? But im not 100% sure, but it has a directional pattern which leads me to believe its being causes by the inner fans of the system, and that there are some gaps where the air flow is constant. Also, the streak is in the upper left hand corner mostly (no where on the bottom poritions). Im assuming that the place holder at the top-backside of the iMac, for the exhaust fans to expell the heat from within, is what is causing this air flow.
My MacBook screen is cracked and I can only see the upper left corner of the screen. I'm trying to locate my macs ip address. Is there any way to do this/locate this with the screen broken?
My buddy just saw one of these and suggested it to me. I have the glossy screen and would like less glare. Anyone use this or something like this on their glossy MBP screen? Any loss in color, or balance of color?
i know theres alot to read about the matte-and-glossy discussion on the web, but the bottomline is always the same:
- anti-glare screen protectors is something you should not use - theres no option for the 13", go buy a 15" MBP if you want matte screen
I've been in a store (several times) and I'm working on an iMac 21.5" and I am sure now, i can't live with the glossy screen.
I'm programming, so I have to read all that tiny symbols on my screen without suffering from a headache and I defently will with the glossy screen.
On the other hand I need a 13" Notebook because I will use it on seminars and stuff.
Right now I have a Sony Notebook which is nice, but not a Mac and after 6 months working on an iMac I don't want to miss all the nice features and gimmicks Windows 7 doesn't have, even if it got improved a lot, it is no OS X ;-)
Do you guys think, that there is a chance that Apple will present a matte screen option for the MacBook Pro 13" or the MacBook?
I was not able to find out why exactly Apple is not selling the MBP 13" with a matte screen, since there are a lot of potential customers that won't buy a glossy MBP. Is there a technical reason or something?
f you could tell me that reason I could stop hoping and waiting and just go for another winbased Notebook I don't really want but need.
Would like to know if someone knows where to purchase a screen protector for 24" Imac I have been using the styrofoam cover that came with it but it will not last to much longer
I am trying to make a decision on what computer to buy... I am buying this computer mainly for graphic design so the screen is a very important part of this decision.
It is between a Mac Mini: 2.26 GHz Processor 4 MB Ram 120 GB Hard Drive NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics 3 External Hard drives: 1 as my main HD, 1 as a backup, and 1 to bring back and forth to school.
With this monitor: [URL]
or
24" iMac 2.66 GHz Processor 4GB Ram 640 GB Hard Drive NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics 2 External hard drives: one as backup and one to bring back and forth to school
My main question is what are the specs on the 24" iMac screen such as panal type etc. and which screen is better: the iMac screen or the HP screen linked above. Remember I'm going to be using it primarily for graphic design.
I played a video at [URL]using Safari. When I opened the activity screen I could see the advertisement part of the file loading. When the main video began to play I could not find it and therefore could not download it.
I'm looking for a external monitor that is compairable in brightness as my iMac's screen. The brand needs to be Samsung, and the look of the Samsung moniter I would prefer to look like the examples below. Why? Because I want it to match my TV. I'm also looking for a small monitor because the space I have is pretty small and I dont want to have to move my iMac and look at it at a angle. I currently have a Samsung SyncMaster 906BW with a 1440 x 900 60hz resolution and its VERY dull compared to my iMac and its at 100% brightness and 85% contrast. Here are some of the screens I'm looking at so far, would they be close to as bright as my iMac's screen?
