My worry with the hard shell cases is that they scratch the computer and/or let dust particles and other nasty stuff in. Perhaps this will be prevented with the use of the Invisible Shield?

I wanted to see what the actual colors look like. There are a lot of youtube videos for speck cases but not incase and I can't find any images other than the stock images (which are always off.)
View 24 Replies View RelatedI got a Speck hard shell for my 17'' unibody and I love it in all respects (beautiful, MBP doesn't run hoter, rubberized, tough) except for its weight (over 1 lb). It tips the weight of the MBP from very bearable into too heavy. Any alternatives? I'm not looking for protection from dings but just small scratches.

View 3 Replies View RelatedA questions for all of those who have any sort of invisible shield (zagg, bse, bodyguardz etc etc) on their Unibody MBP (or MB for that matter).
Anyone having any issues with the cpu reaching dangerously high temperatures? I heard that the invisible shield is particularly bad because it insulates the aluminum on the mbp, thereby not allowing it to properly dissipate heat. This is one of the things that's preventing me from pulling the trigger on getting one.
this topic has come up in discussion a few times. I know that that I was looking feedback originally but all the research lead me to believe that it was a 50/50 between the two. My girlfriend and I both have the 13" MBP. She has the Incase Hardshell (the one for the previous generation) and I recently picked up the Speck Satin 13" for MBP because of the recent discount.
At first glance, they seem the same. But after further inspection, they do differ and although it may be subjective, this is just what I see.
INSIDE OF THE CASE
When I first received the case for my Speck, I opened the package up excitedly. It was nice to find a small piece of cloth in the package to wipe down the case and the laptop. However, I found small surface scratches on the inside of the case. The sides of the plastic are sharp as hell! Not sure if it's suppose to be like this. There was even excess plastic sticking out. The Incase did not have a cloth, but everything was clean and all the plastic was scratch free smooth.
BOTTOM VENTILATION
Nice lined pattern but only 1/4 of the grille is actually open for heat to escape. This opened area is located on the top left corner. Given this is where I find the majority of the heat to be, I would much prefer if the whole thing was open. They have the grille design in there already, why not just open it up? The Incase's vents consist of small holes that span the majority of the bottom. My personal feel is that more ventilation, the better.
BATTERY INDICATOR
The button to check battery power on the Speck is a little off. I can't tell if I hit it or not. The Incase actually has some feedback, I know that I have pressed it. Now I am not sure if it's the colour choice, but I can't see the battery indicator lights. This could be the fact that I have a deeper darker colour. I have the red and my girlfriend has green. I can see her's clearly in any light but I can barely see mine even indoors in low light.
OPTICAL DRIVE
Now the Incase was nice in that the whole right side of the case is covered except for the slot where the cd/dvd is suppose to enter. The Kensington lock is covered but the Incase is meant for the UMB. The Seck case seems like they took the easy way out. Rather than cutting out a slot for the optical drive, they just took a whole chunk out. Not a big deal when it comes to functionality, but it's just nice.
FEET
Speck has plastic feet, Incase has rubber feet. When I placed both laptops side by side on a table. The Speck moves so easily as there isn't enough friction. The Incase does move as well but you need give it a little more force.
SLEEPING LIGHT
Not sure why but the Incase's cut out for the IR is larger than required. I can only assume they did it to not impeded the sleep light to shine through. My Speck is cut out only where the IR port is, the sleep light is covered but is bright enough to shine through the case.
CONCLUSION
I think the Incase is better built, and is the perfect balance between form and function. I am actually thinking about returning this and getting the Incase when they release theirs, but I hear they take forever to release redesigns. On another note though....I think that the Speck case was sharp at the sides and had excess plastic because they used their old 13" UMB stock and put it back into a machine to make the cut outs larger to accommodate the ports. Cannot confirm this and I am bad at articulating it but what I am trying to say is that I don't think they went back to the drawing board for this. They essentially said, we need to make the cut outs larger and rahter than making a new die/mold, they make alterations on their old cases, if so...that is not cool.

Incase I have read that computer only stays at one angle?That it dose not close all the way or makes a popping sound when it rubs the back.I am sure some could be due to not installing it right.Someone even said they could not get off and apple took it off and the top part of the computer broke

I just bought a mac and I'm a first time user so I had a few questions regarding the Snow Leopard upgrade and Zagg Invisible Shields.
1. Does the apple retail store install Zagg InvisibleSheilds for MacBook Pro's? If not, does any other store? I tried installing it myself but I ended up frustrated with a crappy looking MBP.
2. I'm trying to upgrade to Snow Leopard through the apple website but after i finish giving the required information, it takes me to the apple store cart, but the problem is that the cart is empty. Am I doing something wrong? I bought my MBP June 23 and I really don't want to buy Snow Leopard if I could just pay the $10 and upgrade it.

Question is - which do you guys think is better, the Speck or Incase cases? Anyone have any experiences? I had the Incase hardshell for my old whitebook.
Seemed to work out alright. The other option I thought of was getting the invisible shield. Anyone have any thoughts?
While part of me is really hesitant (it feels a little OCD, kind of like the people who put plastic on their couches), my recent experience with the applecare people made me realize that if I had even dropped the macbook slightly, the warranty would be void! So I'm going to use an incase hard case not for cosmetic protection for me, but for financial protection of my warranty.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI bought a uMBP17 and the Speck hard shell for it. I was surprised at how much heavier the machine becomes with the armor on. So I've noticed that the hinge does seem to stress a bit with the extra weight of the shell.
Have you guys noticed that ? Is this something that I should be concerned about ?
The free space on my MacBook is disappearing fast but I don't know why. I am hoping someone can tell me where to start solving this problem. It must be invisible files but what can I do about it? This started after I restored from a Time Machine backup to a new hard disk after the hard disk failed (another story). The Time Machine backup was about a week old (isn't it always the case?) so I don't think it is likely that I could have restored anything that might have had anything to do with the hard disk failure. Everything seemed to be working fine, having spent hours resorting emails and trying to reconstruct files I had lost from the week I didn't back up. During that week I had bought an iPhone. When I connected it to the restored computer it deleted all the apps I had installed. Not a big problem, as I was able to track them down from an iTunes receipt and reinstall them. I then attached my iPod and the computer had to replace all the files with new ones. As there were a lot of songs and photos I left it to do this and went to bed. Next day the iPod now had newly replaced files and seems fine. But there is a warning that the startup disk is full. No new files had been put on the computer, which had about 9.5 Gb free space. I deleted some files so I could do some things with the computer to find out what was happening. The space thus freed soon disappeared. I then deleted Parallels Desktop so that I could free up more space. I now had 29.67 Gb free space. I tried searching for large files but nothing suspicious seems to detectable. By the end of the day the free space had gone down to 24.39 Gb. It now stands at 23.22.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn some of my folders, the inside folders appear to be blank and have no text. When I click on the folder icon, the name of the folder is there, but there appears to be a hard return at the end of the text. When I delete the hard return, the text becomes visible.
Rather than go to each folder and do this - why this is happening, and how to correct all the folders wherever they may be on any disk.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI picked one up today for my 13in Macbook Pro and I'm a little angry that it isn't really big enough to fit the laptop and the charger at the same time without having a huge bulge poking out of one side of it. Most of the reviews online said it should be big enough but who really wants that? And beyond that point I don't really want the plug putting huge pressure on the macbook when they're both stuffed in there. Anyone owners of this I'm just curious to know how you handle this problem?
