Sep 27, 2010Basically I need a one click solution to the screen capture program built into OS X. I want something that I can pin to the dock and when I click it it performs the command+shift+3 that copies the whole screen and saves a png to the desktop. I have found some commands to call up key codes for the letter keys but I need to know how to call up the other keys. Would it be easier to just make a script in the script editor. I'm not a mac / unix guy and I realize that this is really simple I'm just new at it.

Aug 7, 2009How can I get my iMac to completely empty my trash? My delete secure trash always starts at 9,500 or more items to delete. Then the message: "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "501" could not be read or written. (Error code-36)" always comes on when there are still 9,474 items left. I click continue and one more item is deleted down to 9,473, then it quits deleting. The files left in the trash are like this example: QHAE.la Dec 31,1903, 6:00PM Zero KB Alias. There are 38 of them and the date, time, size and kind are all the same.

OS X :: PC Formatted HD Shown Empty In IMac
Jun 8, 2010I have a PC (yes I am sorry about that) with a 750Gb external hard drive which I use on my computer. The hard drive is full of my pc's data (pc is running windows xp). I just bought a new imac and plugged the hard drive into it. A message popped up saying something like, make the drive mac compatible, I said ok. But I think this has changed the hard drive header from PC style NTFS to mac. I do not think the data was wiped as this happened in like one minute. But now I cannot recover my PC data files and have a huge amount of work on there. So how can I recover my data? Should I try a program like Diskwarrior on the Mac, or use a PC based program to try and recover the files?
I could not see the external drive original when I plugged itback into the pc, so I installed Mac drive and could then see it. But it shows it as empty. We can see the drive now in windows explorer, and also in Manage/storage/disk management it shows the drive as disk 1 as healthy but with file system now listed as HFSJ. Does this mean HFS file system and its drive J? We are running a program called EASUS Data Recovery Wizard. It is scanning the drive and has so far found 1039107 files and a NTFS file record of 1021854. The program has only been running 6 mins. So will probably let it run and see. On the status bar it has just highlighted like 1% so I guess this may take a few days to complete.

IMac :: OSX Boot Drive Corrupted - Trash Refuses To Empty?
Nov 9, 20101. I do occasional maintenance with onyx and have been getting a few startup disk errors in recent months. These seem to get repaired and the computer still functions as normal. I have never had these before in 8 years of using osx so they do worry me. Is the osx boot drive just a bit corrupted? Would a simple reinstall help or is the hd showing signs of failure?
2. The trash simply refuses to empty. The operation can�t be completed because you don�t have permission to access some of the items.
I've tried to bring the items back to the desktop and the folder they came from but they simply make a copy of them. I've tried the option key method and sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash + sudo rm -rf /Users/user_name/.Trash in the terminal but get no change

Nov 16, 2009Updated my late 2007 iMac to 10.6.2 and after that every time I pop in a DVD or CD into the optical drive it spins up and then I get a dialog box that tells me that I have put in an empty disc and the question what I want to do. Can't read them in itunes or DVD player (or any other program). Is it just coincidence that this happened just when I updated. The drive is an OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5630A

Apr 11, 2012I use iCloud for syning Mail & Notes. Contacts, Calendars and Documents & Data. I am 100% sure that in the past in iTunes/Info tab "Sync contacts" and "Sync Mail Accounts" showed all my different Address Book groups and different email account to be synced. Since recently they seem disappeared and I only see my different Calendars to be synced. Why are both Sync contacts empty and Sync Mail Accounts both emtpy/dimmed. BTW if I check Sync contacts I get a message that they are synced through iCloud etc. etc. Now if I enable on my Mac another email account in Apple Mail it is not added to my iPhone/iPad anymore. How can I change that ?

OS X :: Shell Script - MV Command
Mar 5, 2010I'll be the first to admit it, I'm bad with scripts, but I'm trying to figure this script out and have hit a dead end. There is a large list of MV commands to move a specific file into a folder, but the script isn't working when ran all together. But strangely, it will work when i enter it line by line into terminal. What I'd like to do is turn my imac screen off without turning off the second monitor output (i.e. tv) as the imac screen is a bit bright/distracting (even on lowest brightness) when watching in the dark.

Everything works great except that I have to specify the full pathname in the shell script. I thought that ./ or .../ or something similar would denote that I want to run the .JAR file that is in the containing folder but I'm not having any luck.

Oct 11, 2009I've got a mac pro with it's shell/casing seriously dented. I dropped it. Thankfully, the insides are working just fine. Since I can't sell this thing, I decided to upgrade it instead. It's got 3.0ghz xeon processor, quad-core. It's used for gaming. I've got 7300 GT Nvidia vid cards in there (3 of them). I don't even know what it's used for. ROFL. 2GB RAM.So what I need to know is the following:
1.Other than the dreadfully heavy heavy Mac pro's standard casing, is there another case I can replace it with? What would be compatible?
2.I want to upgrade my RAM to the max. Is it 32GB or 64GB? What is the cheapest type of RAM I can purchase without losing much performance?
3.What is the latest video card I can use with my quad-core? which is compatible?
4. Is quad-core 3.0ghz xeon, a good computer you think? or shall I just forget the upgrade and spend the money to buy a 16 core or something, while I just need the pc for gaming?

MacBook Pro :: MBP Battery Broke Out Of Its Shell
May 18, 2010A couple years ago, there was a recall on MacBook Pro (C2D) batteries as a result of them expanding and bulging. As I experienced those symptoms, I called Apple and got a replacement shipped no problem. Fast forward to a year and a half or-so later, and the same thing has happened to this battery. I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to if I'd still be eligible to get a replacement for it, free of charge - since I don't have a warranty. Is the recall still valid? Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated - worse comes to worse, I'll have to buy an aftermarket battery, since I can't afford Apples at the moment.

- when I try to open Terminal to move the folder from the trash to my hard disk, appears a message that says: the administrator doesn't specified your shell with a legal value.
- I can't change the date and time;

It tips the weight of the MBP from very bearable into too heavy. Any alternatives? I'm not looking for protection from dings but just small scratches.
