MacBook Pro :: Uninstall / Erase Manually All Files
Jul 1, 2014
I was on twitter and it sounds repeatdly an ad, and appears ads banners so constantly. I had run an antivirus and it detected an ad malware. i tried to uninstall or erase manually all files, but there are two that i cant erase.
Bit defender, my antivirus, cant uninstall, erase or quarantine this ads-by-online-browser virus. I looked for web for info and all that i found was windows solutions.
I'm selling one of my MacBooks on craigslist. What's the best way way to wipe the computer, making it almost new? My snow leopard disk belonged to a friend so I no longer can do that. Is there a best way to manually delete all my files, pics, etc
I've just gotten a new MacBook Air and successfully migrated all my data from my MacBook Pro. Now I'd like to clean up my MacBook Pro for my son. I don't want to erase all the applications, but I do want to erase all my files. Is there an easy way to it?
I'm trying to delete several files (one, an application; the other, an Excel file) but whenever I move them to the trash, I get an error message. The Application (Skype) error says I have to unlock the file, but after I unlock it (using File->Get Info) and I type in the administrator password, it gets me back to the beginning and I have to do the whole thing over and over again.
When I try to delete Excel file, i get a dialogue box that says "The operation can't be completed because the item NY alumni list.xls is in use." But the file is only being used by me; even after I make a small change and resave it and then try to delete it, i get the same error message repeatedly.
This may sound like a silly question, but I would like to know how I can arrange files manually in Mac? For example, if I have a folder of 100 photos in running order and I want to move London3.jpg between London 1.jpg and London 2.jpg, how do I do that? I've tried all the different sorting/viewing options. This is a very basic feature in Windows but I can't seem to do it in Mac. I am using Snow Leopard v 10.6.3. am getting very frustrated trying the various options to no avail.
I purchased songs from iTunes Store. Files are on my computer, but did not automatically go to my Library. So tried to manually drag and drop files to my Library and they still won't go there. The songs will only play in my Purchase List and Recently Added. I turned off iTunes Match and Genius and still no luck.
When you download a file (a song for example) from the internet and it downloads into your "Downloads" folder in finder, than you drag it to your "music" folder, its permanent home...does this mean you now have 2 copies of this file, one in the downloads folder and one in the music folder?
Is there any way to manage this without manually deleting things every time you download anything? Perhaps I'm missing something
I manually manage my videos and music. I don't want to sync. However, when I try to add books to my iPhone using iTunes 12, the only option I have is to sync and then an iTunes window opens up and says that I will lose all of my music and videos on my iPhone if I sync. I don't mind syncing my iBooks, but I don't want to be forced to sync my music and videos as well.Â
There is no book tab in iTunes 12.Â
Any other way to add iBooks to an iPhone and iPad manually. Â
There is no option in the iBooks application to add books to an iPhone or iPad that I can find.Â

My desktop system (an i3 running Mavericks) will not boot from its internal disk (it simply sits "spinning" its little progress bar at the Apple icon). It also fails to recognize an attached disk that has the Time Machine backups in Recovery mode.Â
Migration Assistant is worthless. I get part way through (specifying a different user as a destination with the i3 disk mounted in Target disk mode) , it exits, and nothing has changed.Â
Yet I can mount the iMac desktop and its disks on a laptop (also running Mavericks) in Target disk move, and see all the files on both disks. I have copied some, and they seem to be intact. Â
So, while I ponder this confusion, I would like to get the most critical info off and onto the laptop. One of those pieces of info is the email contents.Â
Now Mail files "were" in the users Library as I recall, but I believe things were moved in Mavericks (or maybe even a version earlier).Â
Does any one have ( and I remember seeing this posted somewhere online, but just can not find it) the steps to manually move the mail folders over to a new machine so that nothing is lost with the most recent Mail file locations?
I am running into "chmodperation not permitted" when I try to change the permissions on my time machine backup manually.
Here is the complete info. I brought a new MacMini server and was trying to copy my music folder from time machine backup(of my MBP) into the Server. From the Server I logged in as root and tried to change the file permissions of the music folder with this command sh-3.2# chmod -R o+rw Music It throws the above error.
I don't have my MBP with me to do anykind of stuff. I don't want to install SL on my macmini and restore from time machine bckup. Is there any other way.
I'm planning to reinstall Snow Leopard. I'm using Time Machine. I want to avoid automatic solutions like "Restore from Time Machine backup" and the Migration Assistant because I want to make sure my system stays clean.
This is how I imagine it:I boot my freshly installed system, plug in my Time Machine external drive, open it with Finder and start dragging back all the stuff I need (Photos, Music and Documents) just as if it were a regular external hard drive with files on it. Then I will reinstall all applications manually.
Will this work? Please tell me if you have ever tried this and whether it worked. Will this not cause problems with permissions or anything like that?
I would like to uninstall old anti-virus files. Both Virusbarrier and Norton were used at one time. Both programs have been deleted but I still get asked about Virsubarrier renewal as well as Norton safe files questions. I've gone thru applications, library folders and I've used Appzapper. Where are the hidden files?
I got a malware virus and want to reset my computer. I have webfoot but haven't installed it. Would that solve the malware virus? If not, how can i move files from my mac to my WD MY Passport and clear up any duplicates? It currently won't allow any changes.
Info: MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
I inherited an old external hard drive that I would like to use with Time Machine on a computer. However, the drive was used as a backup with Time Machine on another computer that has since been wiped clean and is no longer available. Unfortunately, the external drive still has the old TM backup files from the old computer. I've found that I cannot simply delete the backup files from the external drive. Â
How can I delete the TM backup files from the external drive? Will erasing via Disk Utility handles this?
I'd like to uninstall SIMBL. The only plugin I've ever used is megazoomer, and it doesn't work for 64-bit applications, and I don't want to have to run them in 32-bit mode. I deleted the bundle from /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins, but aren't there any system-related files that need to be removed as well?
I bought an imac 2 years ago, and updated it to leopard when that was released. I no longer have the discs i used for Leopard, only the original mac os x 10.4 discs.I am very soon going to be selling this machine and need to wipe everything so that all is left if the operating system in the form you would expect as if you had just bought a new mac.How can this be achieved, i tried disck utility> erase, but only erase free space was 'highlighted'.
My backlit keyboard has recently started to act up. It has recently started at random times to not let me manually adjust backlight at all, randomly turning it off and disabling the two buttons to adjust it. It is a Unibody MacBook 2.4
I use a program called Coconut battery to monitor the life of the battery. Well on my new MB I noticed that it says the Age of your Mac is 122 months. I have tried to manually enter the serial number but it still says it is 122 months old, thats seven years, in 2004 they were still making the G4's.
I heard that to enable the faster graphics, you have to log out and log back in to switch between 9400 and 9600... Is this true? If so, is there any word on when this will be automatic or if there is any current work around?
I have a DVD stock in the drive of my macbook alum 2008. help How can i get it out.restarting with the eject button does not work. is there a button to manually eject the disck?
I've recently been having a problem where by when I turn on or even return to my idle macbook Pro the wifi connection is lost. I then select the right network, it asks for the password however tells me its incorrect.
To resolve the issue I have to delete the wifi from the systems preference area, reset my BT home hub then once thats reset I have to manually add wifi each time.
I have moved my photos off my old Toshiba laptop onto my iPad, now I want to import them onto my MacBook Air, but when I sync or import the photos on my iPad it only imports the photos I have taken on my iPad not the folders saved onto my iPad.
