I'd like to uninstall SIMBL. The only plugin I've ever used is megazoomer, and it doesn't work for 64-bit applications, and I don't want to have to run them in 32-bit mode. I deleted the bundle from /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins, but aren't there any system-related files that need to be removed as well?
View 6 RepliesI did an uninstall of Firefox, wanting to just go back and start over, clean. I went into my profile & deleted that (after saving to USB). Now I'm wondering abt getting rid of the icon and how do I check to make sure there is nothing at all on my computer. Isn't that what I want in the event I just want to start over? I love Firefox and just want to get it back on my system, operating properly.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there a way that I can hide the "Microsoft User Data" and "RDC Connections" folders that Microsoft 2011 creates. I've tried adding a "." in front of the folder, but it returns an error message that says that folders and files starting with a dot/period are reserved for system files. I then tried using a program called Ghost Sphere which did the job for hiding the folder, but then Microsoft couldn't access the file and just created another...putting me back where I started. So I searched the web for solutions but I couldn't find anything reliable. So my question is, are there any programs or methods that will let me hide a file in the finder but still let it be accessible to the program that created it?

I read elsewhere on here that I can apparently do the above mod by installing SIMBL and getting that to work in inputmanagers etc. However I have an issue the .pkg file wont install.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an original MacBook Pro 15" (A1150) that randomly shuts down. Seems to be running very hot. I've already had to replace a bulging battery, and TechTool Pro has indicated a temperature-related S.M.A.R.T. failure with the HD.
If I downgrade the HD from 7200 RPM to 5400 RPM, will that help with the heat issues? Any other heat-related fixes? I know the 13" MacBook Pro suffered a random shutdown syndrome, but I didn't know if the 15" was affected too.
I've been working on a lot of projects lately, and I've noticed that my files are getting scattered all over my HDD. I'm just not thinking about organization right now, I'm thinking about getting the projects done as quickly as possible. I have found the Smart Folder interesting because of this recently. My question is how can I tag my Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Cinema 4D, After Effects, JPEGs, PNGs, Final Cut, and any other file type to show up in the Smart Folder for the same project? This way I'll just be able to open the smart folder and bang, everything for the project is in that folder. Less worrying about organization, more focusing on work!

(porn background, dock applications consisting mostly of games and music editors.) so on and so forth. want to start using spaces. have 2 completely different environments. One being my home use, which will have all the games on the dock and porn as my background. but the other space i want to be school ready. possibly have abit of clothes on the girl in the background image, as well as have different, school related apps on the dock. is this possible?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I've installed a few applications here and there that haven't really worked like I wanted them to. I recently installed Parallels and I hated it. I deleted everything I could find but when I search "Parallels" in my finder a bunch of other stuff appears. Is that all related to Parallels, is it okay to delete them all, or not? The only reason it bothers me is because my computer used to shut down literally 5 times faster than it has been since I install Parallels. I think maybe that was the problem and if I delete everything I can find related to Parallels it will shutdown faster.

Suppose I change the location of my media to the NAS in iTunes settings and then set up Home Sharing. Then I add a song to one machine the song gets added to the library file the .mp3 gets copied to the NAS. If Home Sharing is on and they all refer to the same location for the media files, how would iTunes on the other machines handle that? Would it just add it to the library files on the other machines and see that .mp3 file is already in the proper location on the NAS drive?

This causes several duplicates showing up for each album, while browsing on Cover Flow only!I've gone through my Music - iTunes folder multiple times, cleaning through duplicates items and so on. View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm not an expert on OS X, however recently I've been trying to spend more time with the system to learn and possibly switch from W7. The weirdest thing happened last night. I'm was trying to uninstall istat 3.0 from my system and it froze( the beach ball ). After force quiting it, i tried to start Word but the icon would only keep on bouncing and stop after a minute. No error message no nothing. I was sure it's an issue with Office itself, but no other software is starting. Mental Case, UnrarX, Excel, even Ponyvid, just bounce their icon around for 30-40 seconds and wont start. The only software that works are Apple's own Safari, Mail, Calendar , iPhoto and iTunes. They start normally with no fuss. I tried restarting and even creating another user account, and it didn't help. Is it possible that istat 3.0 blew something in the system? If so, what can it be? Anybody had this kind of situation before? Any fix on hand? What should I do next?

View 24 Replies View RelatedI've removed my old hard drive from my macbook (which I have sold) and am about to buy a new 13"mbp. Unfortunately I couldn't buy the new machine before selling the old, so I am presented with a problem. I could just install the disk in the new machine (its a 320gb 7200rpm, so in the long-term I'll be doing this in any case), but I'll want iLife 09 on there and its possible there are system files that are required for the new machine that wont be on my old system (10.5.7, from a 2007 macbook).
The main thing is that I want all my files, and applications and settings, plugins etc., on the new mbp, but because I don't have the old laptop I cant use migration assistant. The disk is in a usb enclosure currently. So, do I install the old disk and then try and update iLife, or will I run into problems? Or, can I transfer my applications and all their settings via some other means? I have a (full!) lacie firewire external which I could perhaps employ.
Looking for something I can setup to transfer files from my home iMac to my folks' MBP over the internet. We use iChat (via Google mail) often, and I "take over" their MBP to perform maintenance and just generally help them when they get stuck (they're not very computer literate) however, I would like to have a way to transfer files that are too big to email to their machine i.e. video clips etc.
Any recommendation for some sort of FTP application I've used FTP software on Windows machines before, just haven't used anything on macs yet.
I was on twitter and it sounds repeatdly an ad, and appears ads banners so constantly. I had run an antivirus and it detected an ad malware. i tried to uninstall or erase manually all files, but there are two that i cant erase.
Bit defender, my antivirus, cant uninstall, erase or quarantine this ads-by-online-browser virus. I looked for web for info and all that i found was windows solutions.
My husband just ordered a new 13 inch MB for me for Christmas. When it arrives next week I want to get it all set up before he wraps it and "hides" it from me (he said I could so it's ready to go on Christmas morning). So I need to know the easiest and best way to get my files (bookmarks, mail, printer, applications, etc) from the old to the new. I use an external hard drive and super duper to back up. I've never done this before. Would a genius bar do it for me?

I got so mad at it duplicating my contacts and rushed into the Applications folder and dragged it to the trash and now I cannot get rid of it. It's still showing up in my Address Book because it has a little tab off to the right that clickable. I did a search thru spotlight for any instances of Plaxo and nothing shows up but its still there.
