i am unable to shutdown my MAC normally. I always have to force shutdown. The issue has started after one of the framework update. Now-a-days even the processors heats up very quickly.

I type username and password as requested and hit shutdown or return and it just does nothing, the username and password box remains on the screen. I have just run Disk Warrior through the machine to no avail.

View 20 Replies View RelatedI go to shut it down from the apple menu, it attempts to go through all the stages needed for a shut down, the screen goes black like normal, and then it restarts again (so, while, it nearly gets to the end of shut down, it never quite makes it, and starts up again!) The same thing happens when I decide to restart - there is no pause between shutting down and restarting, indicating that it does nor restart at all.
It does not sleep either. I put the lid down and everything is still going inside the laptop!
I hope that's a good enough explanation of what's happening!
The only way I can shut the computer down is by pressing the power button in the top right hand corner of my macbook - forcing a shut down.
I've tried resetting the PRAM and repairing disk utility but it has done absolutely nothing.
My imac intel has recently started to play up. Everytime I try to shutdown it gets stuck at teh blue screen with a spinning circle.

latest apps that i have, but not running, is parallels. I also used Boot camp to partion my hard disk but did not install the os. so have a partion with nothing on it.

So, I want to be able to turn off my Mac using Terminal without it asking for a password. At the moment when i type: sudo shutdown -h now
I get prompted for a password. I need to add this to a Perl script that I'm writing for myself and need to know if there is anyway i can accomplish shutting down the Mac without having to provide my Password.
Every time I try to hit command Q to exit safari, it doesn't work. I can't quit safari so my computer won't shut down. I also can't quit added tabs when I'm in safari anymore.

I've had my original MBP since 2007, which was originally on 10.4 I believe. I've done upgrades up to the current 10.7.4. My original MBP was encountering end-of-life hardware issues, so earlier this year ago I purchased a new MBP. I used the Migration Assistant utility to move my files and user settings.My older MBP toward the end of its life was having OS shutdown / reboot problems. The OS would never completely shut down. It would go to a light gray screen, and the twirling icon in the middle never went away. A manual shut down from the power button was the only recourse.It seems that the problem is tied to issue(s) with my user account settings, since the problem is still present, despite newer hardware.
After I do a manual shutdown/restart, I can immediately perform an OS reboot just fine. But after the OS has been running for hours/days, I can't run a clean shutdown/restart.I'm 100% confident that this is not a hardware issue. I'm comfortable with reviewing my system.log in Console and issuing Terminal commands, if that will help with any troubleshooting.

How do you shutdown AirDisk? Is it safe to just cut the power to the AEBS and disk after the computers disconnected?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSometimes, when I try to turn off my computer, it doesn't shut down. It would either quit all programs (including finder) and just show the wallpaper, or it would go to the blue-ish screen (a normal phase in the shutdown process) and the wheel on the bottom would spin forever. In either case, the computer just freezes at that point and I have to power cycle it manually.
I noticed that this occurs more frequently if I don't restart it for a couple of days (3-4 days max), but my friends are able to go on without a restart for 2-3 weeks at a time. I tried reinstalling OS X to no avail. I now also quit all my programs manually before I try to shutdown (don't know if they affect anything) but that does not appear to help. I'm using a late 2008 MBP with OS X 10.6.5 (10H574)
My iMac 27 late 2010 does not shut down when shut down in the normal way. I have to shut down with the push button. I have tried disconnecting all the usb connected hardware still no use. Can any body help.I have OS Lion 10.7.3?

My system has randomly shut down twice now in the last two days. Dual G5 2.3. I checked the console log, which I know very little about, and it said this:

what's the -122 code mean?
Do you think resetting the PMU would be the solution to this?
when occurs a suspension of hard drive activity, manually or after a period of inactivity, this suspension seems to be incomplete (a ventilator continue to run) therefore my mac (power-mac G5, OS 10.4.11) is unable to restart, no possible action from the keyboard (I must shut down and restart)

I have a 15.4 in macbook pro, intel core 2 duo 2.2 GHz 2 Gb RAM 120 GB HD and I bought it almost a year ago. I purchased leopard for Christmas and installed it. I also bought a western digital 500 gb mybook to use with time machine. Since around that time, my computer sporadically will refuse to turn off. Everything will run as if it is going to turn off, and then the screen goes blank and the computer stalls and will not shut off. The num lock and caps lock keys do not light up by my lap fan keeps running. To turn it off I have to hold down the power button for five seconds. I already brought my laptop to the apple store and they sent it to wherever and it still has been doing this. I also ran a series of hardware resets that the tech line gave me.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a MBA, and I do notice, more often than I had expected, that I'm experiencing core shutdown. I do agree with a previous post that it could, at least partially, be related to the video card/driver. If I decide to run a YouTube video while having Outlook open in VMWare Fusion, I'll usually shutdown a core. Other combinations of applications can do it too, but this combo is almost guaranteed.
My question is: Is there a time where core shutdown is good, for example, to preserve the integrity of the hardware? I don't want to go into the Genius bar complaining if all they're going to say is "Well look what you're running! Of course it'll shutdown!"
I try shutting down my macbook pro either from being logged in or the login window and it shuts down then after a few seconds restarts.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I have a MBP C2D from early 2007 that up until recently has been running fine. The battery died long ago, so I keep it plugged into the wall which was fine until yesterday. What started happening is my MBP would shut off completely (as if the battery died) and then when I try starting it back up, it would randomly shut off at some point during the boot process (not at one specific point; sometimes it barely makes it into OSX and other times it does not).
Anyone know what could be the problem? I have not installed anything new or changed any settings that could effect the system. To me it feels like the AC Adapter isn't giving the machine enough power, but I don't know for sure.
i was wondering what the general consensus was for turning wifi on and off. i normally shut down my MBP during the night, and turn my wifi off as well.
is it worth to turn the wifi off at all, or can i just leave it on? Â
the reason i ask is because it would be nice to just power on and have it set up without taking the extra (5 seconds) to turn it on.

i am a teacher in a school where we have been told that every student must shut down each MacBook or iMac when finished. It is not unusual for 6-8 classes a day to do this. I have said putting the MacBooks to sleep would be better for them. Some of the laptops are taking 5 minutes to restart. Can't find data from Apple to support my concerns.
