Safari :: Unable To Quit It So Computer Won't Shutdown
Mar 13, 2012
Every time I try to hit command Q to exit safari, it doesn't work. I can't quit safari so my computer won't shut down. I also can't quit added tabs when I'm in safari anymore.
When I shut down this Mac, sometimes Safari quits cleanly, but mostly it doesn't. All Safari's windows close but the app itself doesn't. Checking the Safari menu the Quit command is greyed out whereas formerly it wasn't. At this point my workaround is to Force Quit Safari.
Lion 10.7.3 on a Mac Mini and Safari 5.1.3. Safari extensions in use: Ad Block, 1Password, Click to Flash.
Info: Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7.3), 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM
I was deleting items of my external drive through MacBook keeper and when I went to shut down Safari (which was open) stopped the shutdown process. So in the end I force quit the computer. When it came to restarting I get the usula apple symbol and sound when start up begins but there it stops. The spoked wheel just keeps spinning below the Apple Symbol.
When I click "shutdown" on my MacBook PRO, I get a popup saying "Safari Cancelled Shutdown" then if I try to close Safari the "Quit Safari" is gray and none functional. Even if I let it set for several hours and try again it has not resolved. If I hold down the power button and force shutdown, then when I reboot it works fine for awhile then repeats the whole cycle. All software is updated.
My mac is suddenly very slow . I have been just putting it to sleep. I decided to shut it down, but Safari won't quit. When I go to File, the "Quit Safari" is greyed out. I also tried "Command Z" but that doesn't work either.
I am unable to quit Safari on my Mac. The option is not highlighted on the drop down in the top left hand corner and when I try and quit from the Safari App in the dock this does not work. As a result I cannot shut down my computer or download new software updates.
For the past couple of weeks we have had a problem with itunes causing the computer (an iMac running OS X 10.5.5) to freeze and we can't even do a forced quit, but must turn off the machine manually. This seems to happen specifically when we are in the itunes store, not just working with the playlist. The computer has also frozen when in safari - the last time when we were trying to copy a page into Word. We thought it might be a wireless connectivity problem, but I have switched to an ethernet connection and still have the same problem happening.
I got my new Office Mac, and I was hoping to install it. It said Firefox and Safari needed to close. Firefox was a snap (good job guys!), but Safari is doing HORRIBLE. It is not forcing to quit at all, and I don't want to restart or shut down (I bet it wouldn't work.) Now, according to THIS issue... I can't install my Mac Office 2011, and THAT on the other hand stinks, because I need it for school projects.
Info:MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.2)
Recently I have been unable to quit Safari, it starts running really slow and when I try to quit and restart nothing happens. The 'Quit' command under 'File' is greyed out and right clicking in the dock doesn't reveal 'Force Quit'; only 'Quit' shows but that doesn't work. The only solution is to re-boot the computer. This has happened a number of times recently.
Info: MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8), iPad & iBook OS 10.6.8
Unable to close Safari at the drop down menu because Quit Safari is greyed out. When I right click on the icon in the tray and click on Quit, nothing happens. Therefore, I cannot restart or shut down this computer.
Every time I want to shut down my late 2011 MacBook Pro, Mac Mail cancels the shut down & I have to force quit mail. I was having this problem on my old 2008 MacBook before I upgraded to the Pro (but it only started after I upgraded to Lion OSX). So what's wrong w/ Mac Mail? And is there some setting I can change? This is an annoying time suck.Â
I always quit out of all apps before doing a shutdown. I make sure that nothing, except Finder, is running when i shutdown. And, I do a full shutdown, not just sleep. Â
Yet, occasionally, the apps that were running before I quit out of them will restart when I turn the MacBook back on.Â
While using safari a pop up screen shows up and forced me to shutdown my mac by pressing on the power button. Here's the report: Interval Since Last Panic Report: -13 sec

The computer starts just fine, with the bong sound within seconds the computer shuts down. Is it a PSU problem? I need to be sure, before ordering a replacement. The computer is pretty old, G4 MDD.
What is the problem between Safari 5.1.7 and hotmail? I can't quit safari while the hotmail window is open. I can close Safari from all other websites.
Info:Mac OS X (10.7.2), Same OS on my iMac and MacBookPro
I cant seem to figure out how to get Quicksilver to Restart, Shutdown, and sleep computers. It is enabled on one computer, but not the other. Is it a plugin? or a radio button I have to check off?
when I type sudo shutdown I get thisusage: shutdown [-] [-h [-u] [-n] | -r [-n] | -s | -k] time [warning-message ...]I want to just type sudo shutdown and my computer shuts down.
i am unable to shutdown my MAC normally. I always have to force shutdown. The issue has started after one of the framework update. Now-a-days even the processors heats up very quickly.
My imac intel has recently started to play up. Everytime I try to shutdown it gets stuck at teh blue screen with a spinning circle.
Has anyone else seen this.
latest apps that i have, but not running, is parallels. I also used Boot camp to partion my hard disk but did not install the os. so have a partion with nothing on it.
I'm unable to shut down or restart my Macbook Pro (10.6.2) the problem only occurs when I have two users logged in. I type username and password as requested and hit shutdown or return and it just does nothing, the username and password box remains on the screen. I have just run Disk Warrior through the machine to no avail.
