So I have a lot of USB devices plugged into a powered hub and I have a Dell 2408WFP monitor with USB ports.
Often when I awake from sleep the devices plugged into the powered USB hub that's plugged into the 2408WFP which in turn is plugged into my computer are not present until a reboot of the computer.
While mirroring my screen I cannot close the lid and keep it awake. It will wake if I use the keyboard but immediately goes back to sleep, this happens repeatedly. I can leave it open with no problems.

I downloaded the latest software update for Leopard. I've noticed that when I wake my MBP from sleep, the brightness of the screen is very low. I have to click on "F2" to increase the brightness of my screen.

I was encoding some media files to dvd when a friend accidentally unplugged the power source. The battery drained and I did not notice until it was fully drained. I then went to plug it in and turn it back on and it refused to, I then closed the cover and it awoke as if everything was normal. I opened the cover and I saw it exactly as it should but then the screen went black as if it had gone to sleep. i'd rather not have to purchase a new macbook.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just jailbroke my iPhone 3GS and installed MyWi to work with my iPad. I also tried it on my MacBook Pro using Bluetooth. After I paired my iPhone and MacbBook Pro together everything worked fine. Now under the Airport Menu I see a separate category labeled "Devices" which is just below where my Home Network is.
My questions is how do I go about deleting this? I've tried everything. I deleted my device under Bluetooth Preferences, quit MyWi, messed around with the Network Preferences and it still appears under the Airport Menu. I even clicked connect but of course that doesn't work since I quit everything and deleted the device in Bluetooth settings. It's not even listed under "Preferred Networks" when you click on the advanced tab. It appears as "(my last name) Hotspot" and is under a tab labeled "Devices"
When my screen is closed the computer continues to run, and does not respond when the monitor is reawakened. Furthermore, upon shutdown, I have to remove the battery and reset power management in order to get the computer to turn on. If I just shut it down, the computer refuses to come on, hearing the hard drive make its sound before just going out to lunch.
Disk Utility says the hard drive is okay because it would not get past the black screen.
How can I keep the MacBook Pro awake with the lid closed (when I attach two Thunderbolt displays to it)?

I have a macbook 2007 with a disc drive issue. I can put a cd or dvd in the drive, and it accepts it and spins it, but nothing is coming up on the desktop. And i cannot eject the disc either with the eject button or the manual ways i've read about (holding down the trackpad button during startup, the credit card method, etc.)Â I've restarted several time and I've attempted reseeting the power management. no change. Â
I should also state that this is a drive that i have recently installed. the old one was bunk, and I have replaced it with another used one. However, it was working properly when I installed it. I have since having this current issue, gone back in a made sure everything is connected properly. Â Under the system profile it shows under ATA that no ATA device is present, and a similar message is showing under disc burning. Â

I'm noticing that when I am in full screen mode (not the bi-directional arrow, present in some applications) that I sometimes see the bottom of my desktop background as an artefact in the application.Â

I have the both the bluetooth mouse and keyboard. I've tried pressing the power button on my Macbook and then closing it immediately, this doesn't seem to work. I've also tried to wake it by click on my mouse and tapping on my keyboard. Does this only work on usb wired keyboard/mice? Is there a trick to this?

I don't really shutdown my computer much. And anyone can use if it awakes after sleep mode.
I know there's an option for this for your internal drive under energy save, and it makes my computer loads faster, but I still use 4 external drives, and when they fall asleep it takes a few seconds before they wake up and it makes my computer feel old again.
Is there away to keep them awake permanently? And if there is, is this a BAD thing? I imagine it's better than the moving parts going over and over when it's waking up multiple times a day.
ive been tryign to get my mac to continue playing music while the lid is closed and am not having much luck. I have pretty much discovered that it is impossible to do from the OS its self. I have also downloaded insomniax but everytime i enable it my system crashes and i gotta restart. So is anyone aware of a solid program i can use that will do waht im trying to?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI accidentaly AppZapped my quicktime and after that cleaned my trash can so it is completely gone now but when I try to install quicktime again from the apple site, it tells me that QuickTime X is already present and it can not install the file I am trying to install.I've attached an image of what is happening and I'd really appreciate if someone can suggest what to do on this quicktime issue.
My 24" 2.4 GHz Al iMac has a random freezing problem. I am thinking of doing an archive and install of the OS (running 10.5.6). Questions:
1. Will an A&I keep all my present data?

I've never done it before and want to make sure I do it correctly. I did a forum search of archive and install, and nothing pertinent came up for me. I do have both installation disks that came with the iMac, so I should be good to go there.
Using Safari on Snow Leopard 10.6.8, I am suddenly unable to view pdfs - they automatically download and then open in Preview, when previously they would open in a Safari window. I do not have the adobe pdf plugin, having previously removed this months ago. How I can get pdfs to open within a Safari window again? Just to reiterate - the Adobe pdf plugin is not present in either of the internet plug-in folders.

About 3 weeks ago, I went out of town for a week then came back. When I started up my PPC G5 iMac, I went to open Safari....but it disappeared. The icon was still in the dock, but when I clicked on it, a translucent "?" showed up over it. I tried a Spotlight search for it, and nothing came up. Same thing happened with Preview. I thought my Aunt who was staying over didn't know how to use the Mac and might have accidentally deleted them, so I used Pacifist to reinstall Safari and Preview from the Leopard disc. No big deal.
Then today, I fire up Word, but same thing! Word disappeared! Same with Excel. No matter, reinstalled from the disc. After a couple of hours, I'm back again and this time I want to use Roxio Toast....gone. And this time, I don't have any install disc (lost it during moving). And I know my Aunt can't be responsible for Toast or Word disappearing, since she left yesterday afternoon; mom was using Word on my computer and I used Toast no more than 5 days ago.
So anyone have any clue what the heck is going on with my applications literally deleting themselves?

I Rebooted again doing a Command/Option/ P R to insure that all cache memory was deleted and Still it will not show the update for 10.9.3

I have a situation where I've imported a large number of albums but not all from an external NAS (via SMB). My question is, if I import again will it check that my previous imports are present and just skip to the next album or will it re-import the album? I only want to import the albums not present as it will take hours to import whole folder. Can anyone confirm what itunes will do?

For the last two weeks, my 12" 1.5Ghz PowerBook running Leopard has being doing a strange thing. After either restarting my computer or logging back in to my account, the sound completely goes away (except for the start-up chime). The speaker isn't present in my menubar, and when I press the volume up and down keys I get the volume screen shown with a circle with a bar through it. The sound preference pane says "no output devices found," even when I plug in external speakers or headphones. My iPod also won't mount when this happens. A PRAM reset appears to temporarily solve the issue, but it has now happened a few times and I'm quite worried that there's something seriously wrong with my PowerBook, which is now getting up there in age. I'd like to hold off on my buying a MacBook Pro until the summer, but that won't happen if my logic board is failing or something like that.

How do I get Safari to present auto-fill options in text fields like Firefox can.
Seems like a cookies thing but I think not because it presents me with all previous names I've used on other website's text fields before.
For example in Firefox if I go to sites I haven't visited before and I'm asked to type in my new username, as soon as I type the first letter, Firefox gives me options from previous text fields I've filled in before all over the net and unrelated to the site I'm on.

When setting up an iphone to synch with the lion server, why does it only present mail and notes for synch? Even after restarting just get invalid username or password.The log file shows something about an OD crash which seems to coincide with an attempt to login to iCal using AD credentials.
3. I cannot edit user's shortnames via WGM. Even so, it wouldn't accomplish what i need. So i'm fine with just manually creating aliases. I tried to edit the postfix aliases file for a test alias group: user1, user2 Doesn't work even after restarting mail it says it's unknown user. Mailman doesn't work the way i expected. I need to create distrobution groups, not a maillist. Â
