ive been tryign to get my mac to continue playing music while the lid is closed and am not having much luck. I have pretty much discovered that it is impossible to do from the OS its self. I have also downloaded insomniax but everytime i enable it my system crashes and i gotta restart. So is anyone aware of a solid program i can use that will do waht im trying to?
View 5 RepliesMy mid 2007 macbook pro thinks its asleep when the cover is open but awake when the cover is closed. I was encoding some media files to dvd when a friend accidentally unplugged the power source. The battery drained and I did not notice until it was fully drained. I then went to plug it in and turn it back on and it refused to, I then closed the cover and it awoke as if everything was normal. I opened the cover and I saw it exactly as it should but then the screen went black as if it had gone to sleep. i'd rather not have to purchase a new macbook.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen my screen is closed the computer continues to run, and does not respond when the monitor is reawakened. Furthermore, upon shutdown, I have to remove the battery and reset power management in order to get the computer to turn on. If I just shut it down, the computer refuses to come on, hearing the hard drive make its sound before just going out to lunch.
Disk Utility says the hard drive is okay because it would not get past the black screen.
How can I keep the MacBook Pro awake with the lid closed (when I attach two Thunderbolt displays to it)?

can i want to keep my music on my external hd for my itunes in windows but can i let my mac use the drive to copy music and videos to it and let my windows machine use it too. I think the playlist would would not copy right.This is done by letting windows share the drive that has the music folder in it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedEvery time I search for a song in iTunes, then close the search by hitting the "x" in the search bar, iTunes returns me to the top of my iTunes library (the A's), instead of staying on the song I've searched for and selected. It's incredibly annoying, and has been happening to my iTunes for a few years (but didn't in early versions of the software). Does anyone else have this problem? Is it a bug, or just a bad design? If so, is there a way to stop it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedEver since I reformatted my Mac a few weeks ago, I've had some interesting new problems. I've been told for some of them that it is because before my reformat, my Mac was updated from Snow Leopard, and carried over some stuff into Lion.
This problem involves iTunes 10.6 and streaming to a second-generation Apple TV. (The 720p version, but running iOS 5 that came out with the new 1080p Apple TV) The problem involves my Mac going to sleep. I can fix the problem, but it works differently than it used to: Before, my Mac went to sleep after three hours of inactivity; if my iTunes library was being accessed by my AppleTV, iPhone, or iPad using Home Sharing, it would never sleep as long as it was being accessed remotely. Now, however, it will still sleep if it is being accessed, which causes problems since my Mac is on the other end of the house from the Apple TV, and I often run it for more than three hours when listening to music as ambiance or watching a television/movie marathon from my iTunes Library.
I can set my Mac to never sleep, but I would prefer it would still sleep after the three hours -- assuming it wouldn't sleep while accessing it from Home Sharing.

iTunes 10 is playing my .mp4 music, of whcih I rip from FLAC to .mp4 using Media Monkey, and now play in a window, blacking out my screen as if it were a movie. This didn't occur in any iTunes version before this (the songs played fine in iTunes as if it were an mp3 or aac files) and has been my setup for YEARS.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI imported several cd's and tracks into iTunes last night and there were no problems while importing. I was able to listen to my music in the iTunes library up until this evening. When I click on a song, a box pops up saying "Connection Failed: The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name of IP addres and your network connections and try again." So I press "OK" and another box pops up saying "The song "(name)-(artist)" could not be used because the original file could not be found.
Would you like to locate it?" I click on "Yes" and see all my songs listed under iTunes/music but all of the songs I have listed in the library are gray and I cannot click on them. I have checked that I am connected to my home network/internet because I am able to share/listen to my iTunes library located on my Windows desktop as well as browse the internet. The only other thing I could think of doing was downloading the new iTunes 8 which I did, and nothing has changed.
It doesn't matter what I do- It's not the iTunes dashboard widget because I removed it, I turned off the iTunes helper app so it doesn't start up with the computer, and it keeps opening up and playing music for no reason.

So when import music or movies to itunes on OSX is plays the media after import.
I have transferred my itunes music on to my external HD. The music is there and that is fine. I then deleted the old itunes folder from my actual HD. I have now wanted to access the music on the external HD, and have attempted to select the new music file location on the external HD via the itunes/preferences/advanced window,selected the new file path and it will just not show in itunes!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am on a 2008 Mac Pro. My computer was on and after being in another room for about 5 minutes, I start hearing my music playing on the Mac. My iTunes wasn't even on, how is this possible??? No one here but me, so it's not like the keyboard was pressed or anything the music just started playing. It was a random song too, in the middle of one of my albums. First: has anyone ever heard of such a weird thing? Second: is this of concern security wise? Is someone hacked into my machine?

I figure it's the website i am visiting, so i just close the window. It doesn't stop. I have no idea of what is playing now. I close everything but Finder, so nothing is running but that. It is still playing. I have no idea of how to stop it, but to turn of the computer. That's isn't a good long term solution though.

I'll be running it to a mixer first and then to 2 monitors. What will I need to configure on my Powerbook to do this? Or will I be able to just hook up the cables and play music from iTunes? However, when I plug my usb into the car's usb connection and try to play music, it works, but every other track is "unavailable". However , there is no "track" there..i.e. if my music folder copied from mac os x 10.5 has 12 songs, the car reads 24 files and file 1 will play song 1, file 2 will be unavailable, file 3 will play song 2 from music folder. My assumption is that Mac OSX is adding in some kind of invisible file or something, but I'm not sure what's going on.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Snow Leopard and Windows 7 partition. On my Windows 7 partition, I'd like to be able to stream music that I have stored on the OSX one. Is there any way to do this? I'm able to access the files using programs like HFXExplorer, and I'm able to copy music to the Windows partition when I'm on the OSX one, but when I try accessing the OSX partition from the Windows 7 partition, I'm met with empty folders.
Copying all the music is out of the question as there is a great deal of it, for which I just don't have the space for doubles. Is there anyway to simply stream the music from the OSX partition in a music client; winamp specifically?
My iTunes keeps opening by itself and starts playing music. I cannot figure this out. I turned off the "Sync Via Wireless" on all my gadgets, but this continues to happen. This has woken me up in the middle of the night until I got so tired of it I just shut my Mac down.

Some problems with iTunes, that appeared currently. When playing music suddenly the rendering stops for several seconds and then it continues without any action from my side. Maybe the problem only shows up when my MacBook comes to the standby mode, but nevertheless, I never had this problem before and it really restricts the possibilities of enjoying music played by iTunes.

I used my mac yesterday and the volume worked just fine. But today I turned it on and there was no sound at all and there is no sound when using the internet or playing music. I can mute and unmute and adjust the volume control up and down but still nothing. I went to system preferences and everything is okay with the sound. I just bought this 2 weeks ago.

I'm running the most current version of iTunes with iTunes Match turned on with my main library on my MacBook Air. About 2 months ago, I decided that since all of my music was in the cloud, I no longer needed to use that space on my MBA (I know, I know...). So fast forward and every time I try and play music in iTunes on my MBA, I get the charming "X song could not be found. WOuld you like iTunes to try and locate it." There is no option to play the music from iCloud on my mac nor is there an option to download the song from the iCloud onto my mac. I have turned on the "iCloud" status column and have almost 5000 songs that are "matched" or "uploaded." Everything I've read leads me to believe that, similar to my iPhone, I should be seeing a cloud with a download arrow in it next to all of those songs. I can see all of my songs and download them just fine to my iphone and ipad. Thoughts? THe goal here is to download everything I have in iTunes Match to my mac, BACK UP those files BEFORE I delete them this time, then re-delete a portion of the ones I don't listen to that often.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor the past few days, my i-mac (10.4.11) has been playing music randomly. I'm not sure what the cause is, but I assumed it could be limewire, so I deleted it. I'm currently using Macscan to look for spyware, but no spyware files have been detected. I know what program it plays through-- Safari. and as far as I can tell it always plays my ITunes songs.
