I have a MacBook Pro. When it goes to sleep it doesn't show the login window when I turn it back on. Is there an option for this?
I don't really shutdown my computer much. And anyone can use if it awakes after sleep mode.
I downloaded the latest software update for Leopard. I've noticed that when I wake my MBP from sleep, the brightness of the screen is very low. I have to click on "F2" to increase the brightness of my screen.

So I just installed Tech Tool Deluxe onto my macbook and then shut it down later. I went back to use it again and when i turned it on a login screen appeared asking me to put in my password. I did that and the screen turned blue (looking like it was loading) and then went back to the login screen. Every time i put in my password it just takes me back to the login screen. I have had my mac for a while and i dont want my hardrive to get wiped out so what do i do? Thank you for looking

I made new accounts using the info that they provided and everything works well. It's just that my login information for the email account didn't automatically get entered into Keychain Access and I was wondering why. I have OS X 10.10 yosemite .

before I went to bed, I was playing the Sims 2, when my iBook G4 crashed. Our power cord can be a bit dodgy, so sometimes that happens. I didn't really think about it much, just closed the laptop and went to sleep.Last Monday morning, I opened it and pressed the power button. It began turning on, and got as far as the grey screen with the apple and the spinning circle. And then it just froze. The circle stopped turning.
I freaked out a bit, and restarted it a bunch of times, each time with the same result. (One time it stopped spinning, and then told me a restart was required. Huh. The rest of the times the exact same thing happened though.) I even tried unplugging and removing the battery, but it made no difference. So eventually I just shut it and decided to try again later.Last Tuesday I opened it and pressed the power button without much hope, and again the apple and circle came up just fine, then stopped, but then a bunch of words and numbers popped up.I'm a complete computer noob, but they don't look good to me... or are they good?

Running OSX 10.5.8 (plain vanilla installation) when I select "Sleep" it will not awake from sleep. This is on my G5 tower.

Since it will sleep with a minimum installation any ideas on how I can get it to awake from sleep without having to do a hard restart?
If I can get it to awake... then I can trial-and-error it to find out what software is preventing it from going to sleep.
I have the both the bluetooth mouse and keyboard. I've tried pressing the power button on my Macbook and then closing it immediately, this doesn't seem to work. I've also tried to wake it by click on my mouse and tapping on my keyboard. Does this only work on usb wired keyboard/mice? Is there a trick to this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried uploading pictures with my s.card and then I plugged in my back up storage disk to transfer pictures and then my computer stopped working as if it was overloaded or something.... I tried forcing quit but that didn't help any. So I just shut it down in hopes that when it restarted it would work but now when it restarts the login screen comes up and after I type my password it just stays on snow leopard default screen(purple sky) and stays there.

Is it safe to keep my iMac (i7, 27") awake all the time? I will of course sleep the displays when I'm not at the machine. The main reason is needing the computer to download files overnight in my ISPs 'free off peak' period.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I have a lot of USB devices plugged into a powered hub and I have a Dell 2408WFP monitor with USB ports.
Often when I awake from sleep the devices plugged into the powered USB hub that's plugged into the 2408WFP which in turn is plugged into my computer are not present until a reboot of the computer.
I know there's an option for this for your internal drive under energy save, and it makes my computer loads faster, but I still use 4 external drives, and when they fall asleep it takes a few seconds before they wake up and it makes my computer feel old again.
Is there away to keep them awake permanently? And if there is, is this a BAD thing? I imagine it's better than the moving parts going over and over when it's waking up multiple times a day.
While mirroring my screen I cannot close the lid and keep it awake. It will wake if I use the keyboard but immediately goes back to sleep, this happens repeatedly. I can leave it open with no problems.

My mid 2007 macbook pro thinks its asleep when the cover is open but awake when the cover is closed. I was encoding some media files to dvd when a friend accidentally unplugged the power source. The battery drained and I did not notice until it was fully drained. I then went to plug it in and turn it back on and it refused to, I then closed the cover and it awoke as if everything was normal. I opened the cover and I saw it exactly as it should but then the screen went black as if it had gone to sleep. i'd rather not have to purchase a new macbook.

I have pretty much discovered that it is impossible to do from the OS its self. I have also downloaded insomniax but everytime i enable it my system crashes and i gotta restart. View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen my screen is closed the computer continues to run, and does not respond when the monitor is reawakened. Furthermore, upon shutdown, I have to remove the battery and reset power management in order to get the computer to turn on. If I just shut it down, the computer refuses to come on, hearing the hard drive make its sound before just going out to lunch.
Disk Utility says the hard drive is okay because it would not get past the black screen.
How can I keep the MacBook Pro awake with the lid closed (when I attach two Thunderbolt displays to it)?

Anyone know why id get a new login appear called "Other..."
When i click on it it asks me to complete name AND password ... which i dont know ofcourse.
When i check the Mac HD Users there is no "Other..." user data etc.
The only thing ive been messing with is public folder names and i havent been to any dodgy sites etc.
Is there a simple explanation and fix for this?
Whenever I try to boot my MacBook, it chimes and shows the apple logo & loading gear like normal, but then the screen goes blue briefly as if everything is fine (sometimes the mouse even appears) but then returns to the loading gear (without an Apple logo). This continues without end, a brief blue screen and then the loading gear again.I tried safe booting, zapping the PRAM, fsck, and the Disk Utility repair to no avail.Trying to verify or repair the permissions in Disk Utility stops with a nondescript error. When I try booting in verbose mode, it gets to the login application startup and shows 2 apparent errors:"(Error) Import: importer;0x88fe00 importer start failed for 89 (kr:268435459 (ipc/send) invalid destination port)"and something containing "(/usr/sbin/mDNSResponder) no such file or directory"For reference, this is a MacBook running OSX 10.5.4.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSomething really simple I'm sure. I've just reformatted and setup an iMac for my parents. With the existing Admin account I created another one with Admin priveleges. So my mum had one and my dad. However when I turn on the iMac it doesn't display a logi screen so that my mum or dad can select which account they want to use and enter their password. It automatically loads into the first main admin user account.
The only way to switch to the other one is to click the apple at the top left and select log off.
Question: How can I get the login screen upon startup so my parents can select their own account?
Just got a new MBP and migrated my account from my MB using Migration Assistant. Everything works, but if I try using screen sharing/Back to My Mac from ANY of my other Macs in the house to my new MBP, I cannot log in using my short name.
Can log in and screen share using my full name, but prefer three letters over many. Everything else works fine; can even file share using short name, just not screen sharing.
Just wondering if it's possible to get rid of a user on the login screen? I have a 'remote' account for other people to access my dropbox, but I never use it to login. Can I remove this user?

I checked the "Automatically dim for this power source setting" thing and the issue is not that. At the login prompt screen, everything is nice and bright, but the screen will dim to maybe 80% of that brightness once I log into any user.

View 10 Replies View RelatedWhen I turned my iMac on this morning (iMac G5 PPC 10.5.8) it went through all of the "normal" steps (gong, grey screen, apple logo, progress wheel, blue screen) and stopped at the blue screen. Thinking it was just a fluke, I shut the machine down and restarted, only to have it stop at the blue screen again.
After disconnecting everything going into the iMac except the keyboard and mouse, I attempted to boot into safe mode but it stopped at the blue screen again. I tried single user mode too but I didn't get any further than the blue screen.
Next, I flashed the PRAM (big gong, single quieter gong) and afterwards it came to the blue screen.
I reattached my external drive and selected to boot from a 2-day old backup. Using the backup I was able to log into both my regular account and my "test" account (without login items).
Have searched forums and found no direct answer for my Q which is ...
How do I change the background fill on the login screen window from solid to transparent or translucent?
Reason is cosmetic ... solid window is screen centered and blocks too much of HD wallpaper.
