I accidentaly AppZapped my quicktime and after that cleaned my trash can so it is completely gone now but when I try to install quicktime again from the apple site, it tells me that QuickTime X is already present and it can not install the file I am trying to install.I've attached an image of what is happening and I'd really appreciate if someone can suggest what to do on this quicktime issue.
About 3 weeks ago, I went out of town for a week then came back. When I started up my PPC G5 iMac, I went to open Safari....but it disappeared. The icon was still in the dock, but when I clicked on it, a translucent "?" showed up over it. I tried a Spotlight search for it, and nothing came up. Same thing happened with Preview. I thought my Aunt who was staying over didn't know how to use the Mac and might have accidentally deleted them, so I used Pacifist to reinstall Safari and Preview from the Leopard disc. No big deal.
Then today, I fire up Word, but same thing! Word disappeared! Same with Excel. No matter, reinstalled from the disc. After a couple of hours, I'm back again and this time I want to use Roxio Toast....gone. And this time, I don't have any install disc (lost it during moving). And I know my Aunt can't be responsible for Toast or Word disappearing, since she left yesterday afternoon; mom was using Word on my computer and I used Toast no more than 5 days ago.
So anyone have any clue what the heck is going on with my applications literally deleting themselves?
I have a situation where I've imported a large number of albums but not all from an external NAS (via SMB). My question is, if I import again will it check that my previous imports are present and just skip to the next album or will it re-import the album? I only want to import the albums not present as it will take hours to import whole folder. Can anyone confirm what itunes will do?

I have a macbook 2007 with a disc drive issue. I can put a cd or dvd in the drive, and it accepts it and spins it, but nothing is coming up on the desktop. And i cannot eject the disc either with the eject button or the manual ways i've read about (holding down the trackpad button during startup, the credit card method, etc.)Â I've restarted several time and I've attempted reseeting the power management. no change. Â
I should also state that this is a drive that i have recently installed. the old one was bunk, and I have replaced it with another used one. However, it was working properly when I installed it. I have since having this current issue, gone back in a made sure everything is connected properly. Â Under the system profile it shows under ATA that no ATA device is present, and a similar message is showing under disc burning. Â

My 24" 2.4 GHz Al iMac has a random freezing problem. I am thinking of doing an archive and install of the OS (running 10.5.6). Questions:
1. Will an A&I keep all my present data?
2. How is it done?
I've never done it before and want to make sure I do it correctly. I did a forum search of archive and install, and nothing pertinent came up for me. I do have both installation disks that came with the iMac, so I should be good to go there.
So I have a lot of USB devices plugged into a powered hub and I have a Dell 2408WFP monitor with USB ports.
Often when I awake from sleep the devices plugged into the powered USB hub that's plugged into the 2408WFP which in turn is plugged into my computer are not present until a reboot of the computer.
Using Safari on Snow Leopard 10.6.8, I am suddenly unable to view pdfs - they automatically download and then open in Preview, when previously they would open in a Safari window. I do not have the adobe pdf plugin, having previously removed this months ago. How I can get pdfs to open within a Safari window again? Just to reiterate - the Adobe pdf plugin is not present in either of the internet plug-in folders.

I just noticed something... Since upgrading to Snow Leopard I can't figure out how on earth do I switch on the 'ignore trackpad when mouse is present' feature, when a mouse is present, if there are no setting in the system preferences for this? Did i miss something?

Trying to install OS X Server and it says that I have to update to 10.9.3
Which I did as you can see.
I Rebooted again doing a Command/Option/ P R to insure that all cache memory was deleted and Still it will not show the update for 10.9.3
What can I do now to force it to read 10.9.3

I'm noticing that when I am in full screen mode (not the bi-directional arrow, present in some applications) that I sometimes see the bottom of my desktop background as an artefact in the application.Â

For the last two weeks, my 12" 1.5Ghz PowerBook running Leopard has being doing a strange thing. After either restarting my computer or logging back in to my account, the sound completely goes away (except for the start-up chime). The speaker isn't present in my menubar, and when I press the volume up and down keys I get the volume screen shown with a circle with a bar through it. The sound preference pane says "no output devices found," even when I plug in external speakers or headphones. My iPod also won't mount when this happens. A PRAM reset appears to temporarily solve the issue, but it has now happened a few times and I'm quite worried that there's something seriously wrong with my PowerBook, which is now getting up there in age. I'd like to hold off on my buying a MacBook Pro until the summer, but that won't happen if my logic board is failing or something like that.

How do I get Safari to present auto-fill options in text fields like Firefox can.
Seems like a cookies thing but I think not because it presents me with all previous names I've used on other website's text fields before.
For example in Firefox if I go to sites I haven't visited before and I'm asked to type in my new username, as soon as I type the first letter, Firefox gives me options from previous text fields I've filled in before all over the net and unrelated to the site I'm on.

When setting up an iphone to synch with the lion server, why does it only present mail and notes for synch? Is this just how it works, you have to setup the different services seperately for mail, contacts, and calendar? I can't believe that when an iphone has builtin support for exchange.Â

I followed [url] to get ical working for AD users. I also followed http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5276 to get push notifications in ical and addressbook working for AD users. It was initially working after following this doc, however now it's not. Even after restarting just get invalid username or password.The log file shows something about an OD crash which seems to coincide with an attempt to login to iCal using AD credentials.
3. I cannot edit user's shortnames via WGM. Even so, it wouldn't accomplish what i need. So i'm fine with just manually creating aliases. I tried to edit the postfix aliases file for a test alias group: user1, user2 Doesn't work even after restarting mail it says it's unknown user. Mailman doesn't work the way i expected. I need to create distrobution groups, not a maillist. Â

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have several HD videos from my Sony NEX-3 camera that will not play very well from within iMovie. They freeze up, or run in slow motion while the sound track continues without any problem. I've seen other related comments on this forum, but no one has suggested a fix yet. I can play my clips just fine from the finder menu using "Quick Look". Other videos from the same camera work, what has changed?

I edited a screen recording video (shot with QuickTime) with iMovie. Added chapters but when EXPORT - USE QUICKTIME and set properites to HD format, once done (5 hours) chapters are not available in Quicktime. I read that when exporting to tiny video format, chapters are not available but here I' exportin to an HD format. I have a 2.4 Ghz MacBook Pro (4GB Ram, 256 MB video card). I have OS X 10.5.1 clean install. Within the last couple weeks I have noticed that if I play 720p or 1080p video files in quicktime that the frame rate is noticeably decreased, you can see that the movement is not very smooth. This goes for WMV and Quicktime files. I have restarted the computer and repaired permissions. If I look in activity monitor, there are no processes running with substantial CPU usage. If I look at the movie inspector while the video is playing, it says that it is at the encoded FPS (i.e. if the video is at 24 it fluctuates at or above 24 for playing FPS), even though it is clearly not that high.

so, I have downloaded quicktime player from Apple.com and tried to install quicktime player 7.
BUT it says i can't install quicktime player 7 because I already have quicktime X on my computer.
I can't find it at all on my computer.
I have tried to update for my all apps but it says there's nothing to update.
How can I re-install my quicktime or even find it?
So I've got some movies in .avi that I want to open in QT but it obviously dosen't recognize the format. I tried flip4mac but that dosen't seem to be working either.

My wife works for a TV station and one of the editors at the station put a video file together with Final Cut Pro and put it on our external hard drive.
The file is just over 3 gig and won't open in Quicktime. It WILL open in VLC, but I need to get it in a format that iDVD will recognize because I created a DVD menu for this video and want to add it to my DVD project.
I have some other videos she recently brought home as well in the same .mov format but they are smaller, around 800 MB and those will not play in Quicktime either, but they are recognized by iDVD when I try to add a video the DVD project.
I'm guessing I'm missing a codec here and have tried a number of them but nothing seems to work. I was able to find a free converter that converted the file to .avi and it would then open in Quicktime, but there was a logo added to the video which makes it basically useless to us.
So my questions are-
1) Is it simply too big a file for Quicktime to play? What is the max file size it will play?
2) Is there possibly a codec I'm missing here that I haven't tried yet?
3) What else could the problem be?
How would I go about watching a .rar video using Quicktime? Or is there another program I should use?
