Software :: Hard Crashes - Call Deprecated / Laser Not Calibrate To Media

Jun 28, 2008

I have a 2006 iMac with Intel processor and 2 GB RAM running Leopard.

First problem - Hard crashes during Mail (rarely), importing video to iMovie from Canon HV20 video camera (almost always), and when rendering a DVD in iDVD (almost always). Message on log is "This call is deprecated and should not be called any more."

Second problem - Won't burn audio CD's or DVD's. Used to be fine. Now says "laser can't calibrate to the media" or similar. Have tried assortment of discs.

I mainly use the computer for iTunes, email, and making fun movies to send to relatives or for school projects.

MacBook Pro :: Copying Users Files To External Disc - Some Data Can’t Bet Read Or Written

Jun 20, 2014

My Macbook pro wouldn't turn on. I booted to the installation DVD and installed OS X to the external drive. Once the installation was done, I was able to access my laptop without any problem and I retrieved all my files from the USERS Folder. I tried to copy my old files to the external disk, before formatting the system’s internal drive and reinstalling OS X.

However, at every attempt, I’d get “some data can’t bet read or written (Error Code -36)”. I ran a Verify/Repair Disk Permissions and this is what I got:

Applications :: Using A Burned Windows XP Disc For Boot Camp?

Oct 30, 2009

I've tried installing XP on my MBP using Bootcamp, but I guess the XP CD that I have is actually an upgrade CD and not the full system CD that I need for Bootcamp.
Now, I am definitely going to ask around to see if anyone I know has a XP CD, which shouldn't be a problem, but just on the off chance I can't find one(will ebay have em?) could I torrent XP and just burn it to a disc and then insert that when Bootcamp tells me to?

Power Mac G5 :: CD Burner Laser Cover Need To Clean?

Dec 16, 2007

I've been having problems burning audio CD's lately. I have burned hundreds in the past successfully. No problems burning data discs onto DVD's however. Last time I tried to burn an audio CD error "laser not hot enough and bad media" have both come up. Some audio CD's that do burn successfully have skips throughout them or a static noise in some cases. This problem first happened when I bought a 100 pack of Sony's and chalked it up to a bad batch and then I bought another 50 pack of Sony's ( a brand I have had a lot of success with in the past) and am getting the same issues. The CD burner has seen a lot of use but should that matter?

Is the HD fragmented? My CD burner laser cover need cleaning?

PowerPC :: Video - Replace Power Supply Burned Out?

Feb 21, 2006

I have a first gen imac g5 (bought it in dec. 2004). So far I've had three major problems with it:

1. After 6 months of use, the power supply burned out and had to be replaced.
2. 3 months later the well known video problems due to faulty capacitors appeared. The midplane board was replaced.
3. I was out of the country for 6 months; after the midplane board was replaced in August my imac was sitting unused. Booted it up yesterday and the computer would just hang. Took it to the genius bar at the apple store today and was told the logic board has to be replaced. Luckily, though the computer is out of warranty, Apple has extended the warranty for this specific problem.

At this point, I am very frustrated. I am going to call Apple and request that they replace my imac with a new one. It is obvious reading the posts here and Apple's boards (btw, before Apple's board monitors started censoring and delting posts that address these problems - my post on the Apple board yesterday was deleted by the monitors) that many users have had lemons with the first gen imac g5. I consider three major problems in less than a year to be symptomatic of a "lemon". If Apple doesn't replace lemon imac g5's what are the alternatives...I wonder if they would buckle if enough people threaten a class action lawsuit. Something must be done to alert the general public about this problem.

OS X Mountain Lion :: Volume Erase Failed - Media Kit Reports Not Enough Space On Device

Jun 20, 2014

I was having problems with the external drive where I store my Time Machine backups, so I tried plugging and unplugging the drive but could not mount the drive. I ran Disk Utility and tried to verify the disk, which told me the disk needed to be repaired. I tried to repair the disk only to get an error message that Disk Utility could not repair the disk and it needed to be reformatted. So I tried to erase the disk with Disk Utility only to get the error message "Volume erase failed: Media kit reports not enough space on this device for requested operation". I am not sure what else to try at this point and could not find any similar questions here.

The drive in question is a 3TB USB Seagate Backup + Desk Media, formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). It's divided into two partitions, one of which (2.2 TB) holds only Time Machine backups of my desktop and laptop and the other of which (800GB) is formatted similarly with some files stored on it. I was able to verify and repair this other partition. I'm running Disk Utility 13 on an iMac (2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) running OSX 10.8.5 ...
