MacBook :: Cannot Play Burned Disk (MKV File) On Another Device
May 8, 2012
I'm using a MacBook, and want to burn a DVD. The file I want to use is an 'MKV', the process runs and burns the disc, but I cannot play the disk on another device, only my mac!
Tried but couldn't find an answer to this exact question. Here's the situation: I created a movie project in iMovie, then burned it to a DVD using iDVD. The burned DVD plays in my iMac but will not play in a DVD player. I get a Cannot play this type of disk error message. I used a DVD-R disk (Memorex). I can provide more information if needed to figure this out, but is there a simple answer as to why this would happen? The DVD player says it plays DVD-R disks. The disk works in my computer. Any ideas from the experts?
When I insert the DVDs I have burned from Toast 9 Titanium into both of my DVD players they display "no disk inserted." The movies play fine on my computer, though. Any tips? Can I change a setting on Toast 9 to make the DVDs able to play on my (somewhat older) DVD players?
Here's the deal on an old MacBookPro Intel Core Duo 2.16 GHz! The disc can’t be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media. Basic problem is the dvd burner doesn't burn!
I have a mac book pro OSX 10.7.5 I am getting this message when trying to burn a cd: The disc can’t be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.
Trying to burn 21 photos to disc and the following message appears "The disc can't be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media." Tried burn from iPhoto, and from copied files on desktop. I have previously burned to disc using a variety of brands, without problem.
i have an .mp4 file, burned a DVD and tried to play it on my commercial DVD on my TV. Doesn't work at all. It works fine if I put the DVD on my MBPro. IS there a system to make it work on my commercial DVD? Sorry for the dumb question but it's my first crack at DVD burning...
We have recorded movies from our TIVO to a DVD burner. Once on the hard-drive of the burner we burn them to DVD. Some, actually most will not play on my mac. It seams that the DVD +R never play and the -R sometimes play. The ones that do play open in DVD player, Quick time , and front row. The ones that do not play, do not play in any program. When it appears in the Desk top I click on the disk and it shows the audio files and the video files in separate folders. Also I have noticed that the DVD's that do play have a number appearing under the disk when it shows up on the desk top and the ones that do not play do not.
Quite often when burning CDs, The order that I have carefully set gets completely scrambled when playlist is burned. This is especially bad due when trying to burn books in my audiobook collection.
I have looked at a few Apple tech notes about this topic, but all seem to be of versions much older than that currently available.
Alphabetical orde is not the problem and one suggestion to use a Song command to set tracks in the play order, doesn't work since Song command.
I've burnt a CD full of pictures with jpg format but after opening it in iphoto 09 (version 8.1.2) I recieve this error " The following file could not be imported, the file is in an unrecognized format". Is there any way to recover these files? I don't have any access to the original file which was written from.
I'm an avid MAC user and I'm using a MAC BOOK PRO. I burned an AVI movie using Toast Titanium 10 to be played on my home DVD Player(SONY HDMI NS710H). It doesn't play!It plays on our sons portable DVD AND on our computers, but NOT the SONY DVD player!? I've wasted 3 DVD+RDL discs and the same thing. I even tried different movies. Same thing. This is driving me nutz! Apparently this DVD player I bought is supposed to play ALL formats. I don't understand what's going on?
I burned numerous dvd's with my old Toshiba laptop for all of my videos and such with Windows XP. Now after my Toshiba crapped out and I switched to a Mac I was wondering why when I put the DVD into the laptop (MacBook Pro Intel processor) why I can only see the name of the dvd and not the contents. I hope someone can help me since I hate having to boot up Windows in Parallels and then play using Windows or drag it to my mac partition since this takes time and I just really hate having to see Windows load on my Mac
I created a slideshow with itunes music added in iphoto. I tried the recommended free "burn for mac" software download. It burned a dvd but, this will not play on my dvd player for tv. What software title can I purchase that will burn my iphoto slideshow to a dvd that will play on typical home dvd player for tv AND on a windows pc?

I just bought this iMac in January and I've already had issues with Lion. First it was facetime.... now, I inserted a dvd-r that I already burned which has video files on them. The good thing, at least Lion recognizes that a cd/dvd is in the drive, the bad thing is that the dvd is already burned yet it keeps saying that I inserted a blank disc... which I did not.
I have an Office Template that was burned by Windauz for Windauz and when I put it in the drive it appears to be blank, but it says it's using 40mb of data and the information shows up when I put it in a Windows computer.
I know I could put it on a thumb drive and put it on my MacBook but I want to know WHY this is happening and what to do.
I have made repeated attempts to burn playlists to disk. But now the tracks are recorded as untitled tracks (with numered order). When I reload the CD's to itunes, I'm prmpted that that itunes can't get track info. THis used to work perfectly, now fails every time. Interface errorr? Perhaps disks too old?
I have several .pdf files that are two big to email to a PC user. I burned them in two folders to a disk on the Super Drive. Will she be able to open them on her PC using WIndows?
nstall Windows XP SP3 on my macbook with a dual boot. I downloaded it from Windows, and have an iso file. I used the disc utility to burn it to a disc, but when I try to use it with Boot Camp, Boot camp does not recognize it as a bootable disc.

Not only will holding Option while booting not work, but all of the other boot tricks (safe mode, single user mode, etc), will not work. I am at a loss. I also don't have an optical drive in this particular MBP. I have an SSD where it once was.
I recently purchased the LG BE08LU20 External Blu-ray Disc Rewriter. I installed Windows 7 (64-bit) through Boot Camp on my 27" iMac. When I try to play Blu-ray discs through the external drive on the Cyberlink PowerDVD software, it says that the software "is not able to play the protected content on [my] digital output device". Is there any way to fix this issue?
10.7.4 frequently freezes with the translucent dialog to power down then power up. This is not isolated to any particular application. Started with the upgrade to 10.7.4. Bluetooth device Bose Wireless Sound-link will not play either but does show connection.

I downloaded a movie which is a avid file just recently on my mac (which is a standard macbook NOT pro)
But it wouldnt work in quicktime so i download 2 different programs to play the avid file but all of them seem to only work if you have a macbook 10.4 version which i dont.
Is there any program that i can download to help run the avid file on my macbook or to change the avid file to something else so i can run it on quicktime?
I just downloaded a video from drop box with a file path of wvm - cannot play it on my macbook pro - is there a way to do this? I understand the file is for windows media player?
