Just a quick question regarding bootcamp and windows installation. I have windows XP burned onto a disc with a few other programs so when I have to insert the windows disc will that work? Or would I have to burn it to a dvd by itself? Will windows install off a flash drive maybe? Also, When it asks for the MAC osx disc, can I just use the install discs that came with my new MBP?

View 24 Replies View RelatedI've tried installing XP on my MBP using Bootcamp, but I guess the XP CD that I have is actually an upgrade CD and not the full system CD that I need for Bootcamp.
Now, I am definitely going to ask around to see if anyone I know has a XP CD, which shouldn't be a problem, but just on the off chance I can't find one(will ebay have em?) could I torrent XP and just burn it to a disc and then insert that when Bootcamp tells me to?

View 9 Replies View RelatedPlease take pity on a confused newbie. I'm running 10.4.11 (Tiger) on a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 13" Macbook with 1GB ram. My school requires me to run Bootcamp to take my exams. They told us that we need 10.5 minimum OS and must have our 'original system discs'. The installation dics that I have are for Tiger. If I buy an upgrade disc to Leopard/SL, will that contain the windows drivers I need to install after I install bootcamp? Or do I need to buy a full installation disc of Snow Leopard (since I think you can't buy the Leopard full installation anymore)? Another issue someone mentioned is that both Leopard & SL require 1BG ram minimum, which is what I have. I'm worried the os will run very slow, but I don't really have the money to buy new ram and get it install (and don't want to crack the fragile top case) now that I have to buy the new software too.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAs title says. I can no longer hold option to boot into bootcamp (fairly old issue - I tihnk it's my keyboard), so I just use startup disc preference pane. Today, Windows does not show up. I downloaded bootchamp and it also gave me an error when trying to restart....any ideas at all? I can't do anything with the bootcamp partition in the disc utility.
EDIT: Opening the bootcamp assistant gives me :""Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used: You must update your computer's boot ROM firmware before using this setup assistant".
Note I was in win7 earlier today without issue....

In bootcamp (on my air) i allocate the partition, then i click install, and bootcamp will not see the disk from my macbook pro's drive. How do i get the bootcamp assistant running on my MB air to automatically find the disk in my macbook pro with the ISO image of windows 7? The remote disk on my air can find the cd but bootcamp will not begin installing it. Anyway to do this without buying the damned usb drive?

I'm having grief trying to create a new windows partition on my MCP. This is a similar problem to a million others that I've read on google, but slightly different and I cant get to the bottom of it. So, I had a 100GB hard drive running 10.5 and created a 20GB partition for XP. All good, all worked. But 20GB wasnt quite enough so I purchased a new 160GB drive and used Carbon Copy Cloner to create an exact copy of my OS X partition on the new drive. Removed old hard drive, installed new one and OS X runs like a dream still.
However, now I go to make my windows partition using bootcamp assistant and get the following error: "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS. Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again." Thing is, there is only one partition on my drive when I look in disc utility. I could just format the drive and restore using carbon copy cloner I guess, but I'd like to avoid that hassle.
I was able to make a 4-minute movie on iMovie ('06) and burned it to a disc, but the following error message appears (the file is not too large for the disc, which is a DVD+R, 4.7GB).
"The project could not be opened, because the disk is full, the folder is locked, or the folder permission are incorrect.

I burned numerous dvd's with my old Toshiba laptop for all of my videos and such with Windows XP. Now after my Toshiba crapped out and I switched to a Mac I was wondering why when I put the DVD into the laptop (MacBook Pro Intel processor) why I can only see the name of the dvd and not the contents. I hope someone can help me since I hate having to boot up Windows in Parallels and then play using Windows or drag it to my mac partition since this takes time and I just really hate having to see Windows load on my Mac. Anyones help is greatly appreciated.
View 1 Replies View Relatedperhaps I am doing something wrong? I wanted to install Windows XP on my iMac. I previously had partitioned my Mac drives. I backed everything on these drives to my external and blew the partitions away creating my one Mac drive again.
I then ran Bootcamp, created a partition and installed XP. Everything was fine. I then partitioned my main drive and got the warning message about Bootcamp maybe not working afterwards. So I finished partitioning my Mac drive as I wanted and now I don't have the option of booting into XP through Bootcamp. When I try it just shows the Mac drive as my only boot option. I see the XP Bootcamp drive in the System Preferences startup disk area, but I assume I did something to the partition once I partitioned my Mac drives

possible it install Windows using a USB Flash Drive configured to function as an Install Disk? Using the generally accepted method for converting a USB flash drive to act as an installation disc my 2010 iMac 27 will not recognize this drive using the boot drive 'option' key method. After formatting the drive as an MBR disk to act as in installer the iMac will not recognize it as a bootable drive. This works fine on other Intel based computers and my GUID USB Flash Drive OSX install image works just fine and is recognizable as a bootable drive.
