OS X :: System Rebooted During Repair Permissions Now Broken
Aug 24, 2009I am a Mac veteran and should know better but I went brain dead and rebooted system after an update while the repair permissions function was running in the background. Now my IMac will reboot and then start to load once I login but it hangs on the startup screen only showing my mouse arrow and the standard space startup background. It won't get to my desktop. Am I going to have to reinstall the system? I have everything backed up on Time Machine but I can't access it from this position. I have a project I have to finish tonight and now I'm really screwed if I can't get in it.

Oct 30, 2010I was asked to performed a system update with a reboot which I proceeded to do. Once the reboot was complete I had lost my system time (which had been reset to December 31, 2000 and my background had been replaced with the original generic MAC background. I have been unable to find the source of this issue and I am unsure how to fix this. I was able to change my clock by adjusting the Date & Time Preferences and fix my background image as well, but I am concerned that this is a temporary fix. Has anyone else experienced this with a system update?

MacBook Pro :: Time Machine Lost IPhoto Library?
Jan 9, 2010I installed a new HDD. I reinstalled OS X by first installing my original Tiger and then the Leopard upgrade. Don't ask why I did not just go straight to Leopard because I don't know I then used the Migration Assistant to bring in the TM backup. I went to open iPhoto and I am getting: wtf? I think that I am going to reinstall OSX. I have the original HDD; is there a way to transfer everything from that directly? Maybe I will try doing an "Erase and ReInstall" option right from the Leopard disc and then choose the TM option.

Sep 1, 2014I have been working on an Excel file for the last month continuously saving at every moment. At some point something happened and the file name now included a (version 1) after the original file name. I didn't worry about that because I was able to work on the file and keep on saving my work. I did some changes yesterday and saved it. All of a sudden I got a message that there was an upgrade ready to be installed at night. So I saved the file and did the upgrade. my file was nowhere to be found. I keep looking at Finder and I can only find a file with a similar name not the one with the (version 1) on it. I opened that file but it doesn't include any of the changes and updates I have done in the last month. I never deleted the file and I have double checked on the Trash and its not there. Is there a way to recover my file? The only thing that I did differently was that I completely powered of my mac as opposed to just closing it.Â

Dec 30, 2010I had upgraded my software to Leopard and after a year or so the HD crashed the week before Christmas.
I got a new HD installed and I loaded the Leopard software I had purchased. Today I noticed there is no iPhoto. It came basic when I bought the Mac in Dec 2008, I'm certain.
Do I have to buy the iLife to get iPhoto now? Wasn't it free at one time and came installed?

Jul 20, 2010I have searched around but cant find an answer that works to this problem. I recently lost all events from iphoto 08 7.1.5 (not sure why but it coincided with HDD getting full. I have tried various things to rebuild the library, reimport etc but I cant get all the events back. I do have time machine but I imported a load of photos since last backup and cant lose them. All the original photos appear to be there but just cant for the life of me get the events to appear back

Where I can find it and my library - they still seem to be taking up hard disk space, so I am assuming its a matter of locating them. But they're not in the Applications folder. Feb 2, 2010I have this problem, yesterday I tried to upload some photo's... Because this camera (a HP M440) is quiet windows-orientated, I used image capture to import my photo's and video's of it... First I uploaded the video's to the Finder and after that I tried to upload the photo's and import it to iPhoto automatically... Of course, I was quiet stupid as well, I shouldn't have used the automatic option to delete these 'imported' photo's... What I've already tried: 3 Of the possible solutions for recovering with iPhoto:
1. Used the Finder, iPhoto Library, show contents, and searched for them... Weren't there...
2. Use iPhoto Library Manager to recover the .xml-file, also no effect...
3. Used Option-Command with start-up and tried to recover them....................

Intel Mac :: Iphoto Lost All Photos / Request To Server Failed?
May 29, 2012I have a 2011 intel iMac. It is the (supposedly) powerful 3.1ghz i5, and i upgraded the RAM to 12 Gig. Before buying this machine I had a 2008 iMac and LOVED it, it was superb. But this machine is SLOWER than that one was?! I am running OSX lion, iLife 09 and iWork 11. I am having a nightmare with this machine, it hands constantly, i only have a few apps open and still it can take 5-10 seconds (beachballing) for finder to draw my files when i open a folder. This can't be right. I have reloaded the entire machine from scratch twice by cloning files off and then MANUALLY rebuilding it (not using Migrate Assistant to ensure to i was not bringing any bad data or bugs across from old installation or old machine). It is slow as a dog, way slower than my old iMac which had a mere 2 Gig of Ram! If i open more than 10 browser tabs in Safari it goes so slow I can't use the internet. The machine crashes at least twice a week and just hands so I have to force shutdown, and my latest error is iPhoto just lost ALL my photos, 5 years worth and gives the error "Request to server failed" but says nothing else of any use. I am hoping to recover them with TimeMachine but wait and see on that score as nothing seems to be right with this machine so no doubt TM will play up as well.
I have VMWare Fusion installed, latest version. It does seem slower when running that, but it still crashed and plays up when that is not running so I am sure that is not the source of any problems, it just makes them a bit worse due to processor usage.Is it possible to get an iMac diagnostically checked (hardware) at an Apple store? It is still under warranty this machine, but I can't drop it off at a store without wiping all my data (clone) to external drive, because I have confidential information stored on it which I can't leave on if the machine leaves my office. I struggled to afford to buy this machine, and thought it would sky rocket my performance and speed after my old machine started to get slow due to age, but even at its worst it was never this bad. I am now a very very disappointed Apple lover, ex-lover?! One final point I should mention, I upgraded the RAM myself, using proper stuff from Crucial. I read that it didn't matter what order the RAM cards were fitted in, is that true or should I try moving them around?

OS X :: Unable To Open The Files / Link To ITunes,iPhoto, Folders Lost
May 5, 2009After opening Mac HD folder, made the mistake of attempting to change name next to house icon (Home? perhaps) along left spine (spine that includes 'Desktop' 'Documents' 'Applications' etc.). The computer started to run as if adjusting to the name change. From that point on, iphoto/tunes/aperture starting opening as if it was the first time asking for set-up preferences.
No photos/music can be found in the folders. I can still see my folders on the external hard drive that the tunes/photo are on, but they will not open when I open the programs. Any suggestions on fixing the links? I tried in vain to change the name back. The error message says that the previous name is already taken.
