PowerPC :: Misplaced / Lost PowerBook G4 System Disks?
Apr 29, 2008
My system is from October 2003 and ... would it be possible to order replacement system CD's from Apple? I specifically need the Mac OS 9 disk; I need Classic because of a few programs I wrote years ago.I had a flakey drive and when I zeroed-out and reformatted, I couldn't find all of the disks.

I have an iMac g4 I have Adobe CS3 on it, and I want to transfer the applications to the new macbook pro I will be getting soon. Unfortunitely I "misplaced" the original disks so all I have is what is currently on my computer.
Is there any way to do this? I have an external hard drive and thought maybe I could some how get the apps on there and then put them on the macbook, but I don't know if that is realistic.

I am an owner of an emac v3.3, the system information says that its a Mac OSX 10.2.4 version. I want to completely erase everything off of this computer so that it can go back to its original state. However, I have lost the system restore cds. Could you tell me where I could find them for this model? Also, I have heard rumors that I can put windows onto an emac somehow. Is this true? and if so, how can I do this?

i know there are a lot of MB/MBP users here, but if i was wondering if anyone had a similar experience with their powerbooky A few days after i installed 10.4.9, my bluetooth mouse started having a harder and harder time connecting, and now cannot connect at all. I also used to be able to pair my phone, and no longer can. The mouse still works with other computers (friends MBP).

when power pressed to boot, it will go into boot, but then the screen starts flickering from dim to bright a clicking sound is heard, the power cord on the side changes from dark to light amber. the screen then goes to black. some times am able to get to log in then it just goes black.- More information- my harddrive had been making erratic noises for about... 3-4 months. some loud clicking... in thinking that the hd failed i bought a 160gb WD Scoirpio blue IDE drive... These problems still persist. even when i option to start up with my external drive, which i have mirrored my hard drive. it will boot up for the external then this clicking noise as noted above.

I have a Macbook Pro Intel Core Duo (first generation of MacBook Pro released). I run OSX 10.6.5. My disk utility has detected a problem and says I need the install disks that came with the computer. Called apple and they said I could reboot from snow leopard or the upgrade.** Problem is that I don't have any disks with me except those that came with my brand new iMac. Can I use those to reinstall the system? Is there any other way?
**They also said that after 2007, the install disks that come with computers are keyed to that specific computer so I "might" not be able to use the disk to repair.
Additionally, and I don't know if this makes a difference but I have the airport/time capsule which backs up my computer for easy restore.

I'm drowning here trying to get a fresh start with Snow Leopard. So I'm undergoing reinstalling all my old software from a carbon copy clone of my old hard drive. I upgraded to a larger hard-drive and snow leopard and have opted for a fresh start. See my thread here: [URL] I have most of all my software install disks except for Microsoft Office for Mac 2008. Does anyone know if I can get these disks? The copy I have is fully registered and legitimate. I just need the install disks. The other stupid thing I've done is I can't remember where/when I bought them. Its killing me. The other question I have is if I drag the MS Office 2008 folder from my carbon copy clone applications folder to my new applications folder will it all work correctly? Will it update?

I am leaving for a week long trip and many parts of it will not be able to run the computer off of the powercord, which is a problem because I get about 40mins of wordprocessing use out of it when I run the battery alone. Can someone explain what the significance of these levels are for my Powerbook G4 15'' (Alm) 1.25GHz, namely the cycle count and full charge/remaining capacity?

I just purchased a used MacBook 5.2 with Apple care until Aug 2012. The previous owner doesn't however have any of the original installation disks but he does include a backup copy of Snow Leopard. Do I need the original installation disks or will the backup copy of snow Leopard suffice? *I don't know the difference between a backup version and original* And if I need them what are they and where do I get them?

I was asked to performed a system update with a reboot which I proceeded to do. Once the reboot was complete I had lost my system time (which had been reset to December 31, 2000 and my background had been replaced with the original generic MAC background. I have been unable to find the source of this issue and I am unsure how to fix this. I was able to change my clock by adjusting the Date & Time Preferences and fix my background image as well, but I am concerned that this is a temporary fix. Has anyone else experienced this with a system update?

My MacBook internal hard disk is currently partitioned into Snow Leopard (JHFS+), Storage (NTFS), and Windows 7 (NTFS). Whenever I try to mount my storage partition, it shows up as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" in Disk Utility, and refuses to mount. My Windows 7 partition, which is also NTFS, mounts automatically when I log in. Is there a way to perhaps force my storage partition to mount as an NTFS-formatted drive? This problem only exists when using OS X though, as it shows up fine on both Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7.
I also have an external hard drive which is partitioned (using MBR) as Storage (FAT32), Backup (NTFS) and Mac Storage (JHFS+). It all mounts properly, with the exception of Mac Storage, which shows up, curiously enough, as an NTFS drive in Disk Utility. Same question as above: Is there a way to force it to mount as a JHFS+ drive? (I'm using Tuxera NTFS 2010.10, if that makes any difference).

im thinking about getting a macbook air , and i did some research about the SSD disks ,the main thing that is making me get a macbook air , besides weight and size factor. -Faster start-up as no spin-up is required.- Typically fast random access for reading - as there is no read/write head to move. - NO NOISE - Ability to endure extreme shock, high altitude, vibration and extremes of temperature - again , because there are no moving parts.

I'm about to get a Mac Mini Server for audio, video, and graphic production, in addition to everyday productivity use. If in the same situation, which would you prefer?
1) to stripe (Raid 0) the two internal disks, or
2) use one as the install/OS disk and the other as the data/scratch disk?
(...assuming you have a 1TB external backup drive, and find FW800 to be much slower than internal SATA for a data/scratch disk).

I've been clearing out my loft, and found my old Macintosh Plus, keyboad, mouse and software from my student days. If still powers up and works!Anyway, I also found a disk box of some 24 * 3.5" 800k floppies of my old work, dissertation, and things, and would really like to get these onto a current machine as well as Mac Project and MacWrite, MacPaint etc. to read them.I've an old 12" G4 Powerbook which I rebuilt with 10.4.11 so it runs Classic, but I now need someway of getting the files off the 3.5" floppies. The Mac+ has no ethernet only the old Appletalk. I tried my local Mac Store who wanted to sell me a nice new USB floppy drive which was PC compatible. Now I know the old SuperDrives could read these old 800Kb disks but will a modern drive read them as well? The Mac Expert in store didn't have a clue, and to be frank it didn't look like he was even born when these were around.any other suggestions on transferring these files?

I am in the process of pulling the data off of my collection of floppy disks. A lot of them are the really ancient 800K kind so I am using a Mac Classic II running System 7.0.1 to access them. The process is going well but occasionally I've run across a PC formatted floppy that the Mac won't read. It just says: This disk is not a Macintosh diskette. Do you want to Initialize it? So how do I give my Classic the ability to access these PC format diskettes?

I have a summer 2005 14" iBook G4 that I'd like to wipe and give to a friend, but I seem to have lost my install disks somewhere in one of my moves in the last 5 years. The Apple Store employee I talked to said I should make an appointment at the Genius Bar and they'll do a wipe and reinstall for me, but I'm not interested in putting much more money into this since I'm giving it to a friend as a favor (hers just died). Any suggestions for how to get a copy of the right OS and all the iLife software, too? It has Tiger, but I could put Leopard on it, if that's easier to get a hold of.

I recently acquired a G4 cube with no os. It came with the original disks, but the only problem is instead of booting from them a flashing question mark on a floppy drive is shown. I have tried resetting the PRAM and NVRAM which hasn't worked.

I own a PowerMac G3 with 2 hard drive disks. One is a 20gb and the other is a 40gb. I would like to combine the disks with a pseudoRAID type called JBOD. JBOD stands for 'just a bunch of disks.' It's not really RAID. What I'm after is to see these two drives as one 60gb drive. Is that possible? I'm running Mac OS X Tiger.

I have an old iMac g3 w/ a 266 MHz PowerPC processor, 160MB of RAM, and a 6GB Harddrive. It is running OS X 10.2.8. I need to get rid of it, but I want to make sure it is cleared of all my data first. Maintaining functionality would be nice so that I can try to sell it. My problem is that I don't have the original install disks. How can I can wipe the memory from my iMac and restore it to a usable condition w/o the install disks.

The iMac forum is clogged with news of the new iMac, so I decided to post my problem here: I just bought a friends old iBook G3 for writing and surfing the web. It's slow and full of his junk. He doesn't have the original disks, so I was wondering, would the install disks from my Intel iMac work on it?

I'm relatively new to Macs and I wanted to try a clean install (or erase and install) on my ibook. I recently purchased a MBP and since Leopard is on the horizon, I wanted to do a "trial run" of installing an updated operating system. I know that you can just hit update instead of doing a clean install, but I've been reading that things run better when you do a fresh install. My old ibook still has Panther on it and I figured I could try to install Tiger on it from my MBP disks.
I know that this represents a violation of the license, but I thought it would be worth it to ensure that I don't make any major mistakes when I'm doing the same procedure with my brand new MBP when Leopard gets released. When I tried booting from the disk from my ibook I got a kernel panic which I interpreted as a sign that it was not a good idea so I abandoned the project. Now every time I try to start my ibook I get another kernel panic and I'm afraid I just broke my old computer.
