Feb 12, 2012
I've noticed that strange yellow boxes will randomly appear on my display. This happens both on my external display and hte laptop screen. I've attached a screen shot of what it looks like. It's not application specific.

It seems that recently I have started having annoying yellow boxes appearing when I hover over thing in the finder window. This is something that I didn't have going on in the previous 3 versions of Mac OS X. Â

My Macbook pro's display has started playing up. Having green flickering lines which come and go randomly, especially on images with a lot of black. Right now, the lines just disappeared as soon as I connected to mains, to start recharging the laptop. I'm using OS X 10.7.4 with NVIDIA GeForce 9400M.

This is driving me nuts. I'm working with a 400 page document where I frequently have to change styles. When I'm scrolling through the list, the huge styles tooltip hoverboxes pop up. They obscure 3 or 4 style options at a time, so I have to scroll farther than necessary to see them.
I've searched Words' preferences, but I can't find out where to disable the tooltips.

Some while ago I loaded MS Office onto my mini. After that I start to get strange "'a's in a box" characters in webpages rendering Safari unuseable. I started using Chrome. And this worked. I have just bought Family tree maker; that uses windows that are images from the web, and the problem is back.

Booted up my Macbook Pro this morning and I noticed this strange yellow-speckled discoloration at the top of my desktop screen. I'll attach a screenshot--its in the center of the screen, right below the top menu bar. What is this? Ran a complete cycle of Onyx, but it's still there.

I was trying to fix something with the tabs in Safari (they kept reloading/refreshing every time I clicked back on one) and so I unchecked "Use multi-process windows" under the debug menu. However, now a lot of the links on websites appear as a bunch of A's inside little boxes (that sounds weird so I've included a picture below as an example) I feel like maybe trying to fix the tabs issue simply complicated things and now it's difficult to navigate on some sites

An alert box with a yellow triangle keeps randomly popping up on my screen. But I don't have time to read what it says because it disappears in 1 sec. What is it? What can I do to get rid of it?

How do I make dialogue boxes just appear full grown, rather than appearing small and expanding. The expansion thing gives me epilepsy.

My mid-2014 15" Macbook Pro randomly "loses" its retina display at the top menu (becomes pixel-y), where the battery, sound, and wifi logos are (on the top right side of the screen). A restart fixes the issue, but I want to know if this is an issue that can be fixed?Â

I was just working on my MBP a few minutes ago when all of a sudden the screen messes up and the desktop is jumbled up in little colored boxes. I tried restarting, with no luck. It's a few years old, and I had AppleCare, but it has expired. I'm on my iPad now (it's all I have), so I took a picture and uploaded it to my Facebook so you all can see what I'm dealing with. [URL]

The little pop up yellow box is appearing when we mouse over this random spot on our mac-mini, and it shows random headlines with no relation to anything open, even when there isn't any programs running.

I recently had to switch out the hard drive on my Early 2011 13" MacBook Pro. When I got the computer back from the Apple Store I began loading my old content onto the machine. When previewing and opening files, they would appear with randomly coloured splotches of pixels on them.   This continues to happen when browsing folders on my machine.Â
The files do not show up with splotches on other computers, and are not in the same places each time I open the file, which leads me to believe they are problems with my machine and not the files themselves.Â
I hypothesise this is the graphics card, but I don't know enough about the hardware.
See examples below.Â

I have an Intel iMac with OS X 10.5.8. Have been running with Hard Disks and External Disks "Show on Desktop" as unchecked and "Show hidden files and folders" unchecked, and in Windows, renamed the Windows HD Disk" to ".Windows HD Disk". All has worked fine for over a year. All of a sudden, the .Windows HD Disk is on the desktop, as well as the .DS_Store folder. The other hard disks do not display. Despite checking and unchecking the various boxes, and running Onyx, can't make the two icons go away.

i recently bought a 13"retina display macbook pro. It is so disappointing. There is a horizontal line that appears on the screen and disappears. This was for the third time i had to face the same issue. When i explain to the staff at the apple store they say that they have not come across such issue, for which i showed a proof from the other part of the world.

When I am on the internet sometimes my screen will not display certain characters or text boxes. When I was on a website the other day I was attempting to input some information and the screen would not display what I was typing or what would appear in the drop down boxes. And I have had this problem on several websites, but when I use a different computer it works just fine! I can't think of anything to do! I don't know what you may need to know about my computer but here is some information:

I have a 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac that has developed a vertical yellow line in the display that won't go away even when restarted. It's like a 1 pixel column of dead pixels right in the middle of the screen. I think it's still under warranty. Is this something that can be fixed under the warranty?

I see all these complaints about i7 iMacs, does the yellow tint affect Core2Duo models? Is the tint an effect of a MB/CPU issue or a display problem?

Pulled my coveted 12" 1.5 ghz powerbook out of its bag and it's has an annoying little opaque stripe about 3/4" along the right side of the display. It changes color from yellow to green. When I pinch the lower side of my display together, it goes back to the blue background color, but still has a distortion to it.

First of all, I've got a 2009 MacBook running Snow Leapord.
[code]...
Starting yesterday, my screen randomly started scrambling and unscrambling. It started while I was watching a video on Youtube. The video would freeze but the sound would keep going, and if I moved the internet browser window (Google Chrome at the time) my screen would become covered in hundreds of the same window. It's difficult to explain; it's like copies of the same window would remain wherever I moved it. Certain things returned the display to normal: Pressing F3 rapidly, hovering my mouse over the bottome of the video, and pressing Command+Shift+4 to take a screenshot to post with this (which is why I don't have one for you guys; the problem fixed its self when I tried.

I'm currently using a 64-bit version of Windows 7 RC on an 21" iMac. But I've noticed that the display has a strange moire-like effect (picture looks "instable", like the surface of disturbed water), that is not present under MacOS 10.5. Any ideas what i causing the iMac display to look so different when running Windows? Is there a dedicated iMac display driver for this hardware that might change this?

also posted on apple discussion forums. My wife has a 12" ibook g4 1.33 mhz. It has been exhibiting the following symptoms with increasing frequency:
1) the display will completely dim to the lowest setting or cycle between bright and dim, as if pressing f1 and/or f2 repeatedly
2) some of whatever she was typing or working on at the time will be deleted
3) a string of repeated characters (usually q1aq1aq1a) will appear in her typing
4) often the desktop is brought to the front as if pressing f11 in expose
5) other than the problems described, the computer continues to work normally
6) problems are almost always related to moving the hinge position, but sometimes happen randomly, with no movement at all
7) it will sometimes occur many times a day, then not at all for several days
8) it seems to happen more often when the computer is not on a hard surface, but this may just be my imagination or some random bad luck
I am at a loss as to what the problem may be. I was thinking it might be the display cable because of the link to hinge position, but that wouldn't account for the random typing. Then I thought it was the motherboard, but the computer seems to work ok other than this. I did realize the other day that most of the problems are things on the left hand edge of the keyboard (display brightness, the q1a pattern), but this doesn't account for the deleted typing and the mysterious f11 thing. Does anybody have any thoughts? Am I looking at a display cable (hopefully this is it - I have no problems with disassembling/reassembling things)? Or is it the motherboard (probably means it would be more economical to get a new machine)? Or is it something else?

I am running a show and have a computer in front of me and the second display is appearing on a large screen on stage where I cannot see it. When I click on a folder on the desktop it opens the window on the second screen instead of on the one on my computer. When I Mirror Displays it appears again on the computer, but when I turn it off (it has to be turned off when I run the show) the window opens in the second screen. I have restarted, reset the PRAM, don't know how to get the window to appear on the primary screen..

My Macbook Pro (early 2013, OSX 10.9.4) does not come to sleep mode – 10 secs after closing the display lid apple logo starts glowing (blinking) on a random intervals.Â
I have tried the following methods that HAVE NOT solved the issue:
* PRAM reset
* SMC reset
* Power Nap is disabled (with enabled I still get the same issue)
* WiFi is off
* Bluetooth is off
* no external devices connected
* no antiviruses or other programs that I would suspect to cause this
* sudo rm -r -f /Library/Prefrences/SystemConfiguration
* finally reinstalled OS X, and I still got the same issueÂ
Surprisingly, if I enter to sleep mode via menu: Apple>Sleep, there seems to be no issue! I have tried changing pmset -1 lidopen 0 to validate if lid is preventing from going to sleep mode, however it has not fixed the issue. Â
I see this text in the Syslog:Â

I sent an email to Steve Jobs about my yellow tint 21.5 iMac issues (three exchanges, all affected, resulting in a refund). I got a call from Dena at Executive Care within 24 hours.
She said they are aware of the problem and do not know how widespread it is. According to Dena, the issue is not resolved and that ordering a new iMac will not result in a fixed display.
She said the engineers are working on it now and they are not sure if it's hardware (most likely) or software related. Further Apple stores cannot do repairs because they haven't determined what the issue is.
