OS X :: Strange Yellow Discoloration On Screen
Mar 27, 2009
Booted up my Macbook Pro this morning and I noticed this strange yellow-speckled discoloration at the top of my desktop screen. I'll attach a screenshot--its in the center of the screen, right below the top menu bar. What is this? Ran a complete cycle of Onyx, but it's still there.

I've noticed that strange yellow boxes will randomly appear on my display. This happens both on my external display and hte laptop screen. I've attached a screen shot of what it looks like. It's not application specific.

Alu 24" 2.4ghz when they first came out with aluminum, got it at the store. since august 07 My imac had a small yellow tint, i noticed, when i got it and it was not worth anyhting screaming about, i also noticed it had bleeding issues ath the bottom and sides. I wanted to return it or trade but i was convinced out of it.
Now i noticed that from left to right their is a prominent yellow tint streaking it's way across and fading around the half way point. It is irritating and sad to see this display on this mac was ok, at first but it is geting slightly worse.I have apple care, can i trade this/replace it at an applestore, or would they need to fix it?

I have a late 2006 Macbook, and my dad has an early 2009 Macbook. I was comparing the two today and noticed that there was a significant difference between their LCDs. My dad's Macbook has a lighter, more normal display. While mine has a yellow tint to it and is darker. Both computers were on the same display profiles and both had the same brightness set.
Is this just how LCDs are as they age? Or is mine really not supposed to have that yellow tint? The new Macbook is on the right in the pic.

There seems to be some discoloration or burn it at the bottom of my display - it's a bar that extends across the bottom of my screen and just slightly up either side. I tried to take a picture of it but it doesn't really work well. When the screen is on, but dark (say, netflix or a darker game), it appears faded.Anyway, I am wondering what this is, if it is an easily resolvable issue, and whether it would be covered by the 1-year limited warranty? I'm out in rural VT, so I can't take it to an apple store without driving an hour or so (at least) - can Apple Authorized Repair places do warranty repairs?

New here to MacRumors. As the title states, I have a G4 eMac(all white sort of cone shaped) that has a screen that is progressively getting worse. User says it has been gradually getting worse since the Summer. Has a very heavy yellow overtone on any window in the foreground, and some blue etching in the background. I did a search and found plenty of info re: the LCD iMac, but found nothing about this in the eMac? I ran the colorSync utility, and no dice.

I have this annoying yellow box at the top of my screen. I am guessing my baby girl was typing on the computer and hit some combination because now I have this yellow box on the top of the screen with my name and address in it and I can't move it or make it disappear.

Happened suddenly yesterday. The screen appeared and stopped working. No reason. No movement of the machine. And today again after two hours of heavy Lightroom editing. A bit of cooling worked momentarily. (used a 12 pack of cold beer placed under the computer :-) Now, starts and freezes after a couple seconds.Apple Service checked to see if it was one of the "defect" graphic cards. It is not. It is an ATI (that is what they told me) they propose a "full motherboard" change

Since I plugged my Cinema Display (20" alu) to my MacBook Air... I hear a strange sound inside the computer.
It comes as I guess from the graphic card, or the power, because when I turn off the screen (by putting down the brightness at its maximum), this time there is no sound anymore. When I turn it on, the sound restarts (by being high when the brightness is down, and down when the brightness is at its maximum).

I have not seen any posts comparing these two symptoms together, but I am wonding if both exist on the same screens, or if they are infact seperate issues. I returned a 27" iMac i7 because it had both slight yellowing and terrible backlight bleeding. I have seen multiple machines first hand (3 Core 2 Duos week 41s) at different stores (Apple and Best Buy) that had no yellowing and no backlight bleeding. I won't get into how to check for yellowing, you can read about that issue here: [URL]
But to check for backlight bleeding is both easy and impossible not to see if you have it. To check for backlight bleeding, a quick way is to bring up a site like http://www.blackle.com/ or any other black background, and check for an inconsistent white glow on the edges of your screen. I had serious backlight bleeding in the lower corners of my screen, which happens to be where the yellowing was happening. I don't know if they are related, but hopefully we can determine if there is any correlation here.
I did order a second machine, because I know Apple knows how to make a 27" iMac with a perfect screen (as advertised), since I have seen 3 of them in the wild. Hopefully they will be back to the quality that they had is their early production units very soon.

I see all these complaints about i7 iMacs, does the yellow tint affect Core2Duo models? Is the tint an effect of a MB/CPU issue or a display problem?

I have a week 50, i7, 2TB Imac. It has a very distinct yellow "tinge", and the Bluetooth does not work properly. Every time I reboot or start, the "Bluetooth setup assistant" starts, which I have to force quit. The wireless keyboard and mouse work fine, but I can't add either of my two bluetooth headsets. They pair, but when I try to activate them, it goes to the bluetooth settings screen, where it says that bluetooth is "off", despite the on checkbox being checked and the keyboard and mouse working. I called support and they had me do a bunch of things, the last thing being reinstalling the OS. Didn't work. So now I need to call them back. I have two problems, the yellow screen and the Bluetooth. Should I ask for a replacement? I see that a lot of people have gotten a replacement just for the yellow screen problem. I have two faults.

A friend of mine, who's new to apple computers, is using an old powerbook g4 (15" inch) running OS 10.4.9. Everything was normal (except for the screen which is screwed up in the bottom half. But suddenly now as soon as it boots up, it doesn't show the apple logo, but shows a blue screen with a yellow satellite kinda looking graphic, floating around. I can hold the shift button and boot into safe-mode, but I have no clue of what to do, as I don't know what went wrong.

i bought the 2009 refurbed 27"er and returned it 3 times due to yellow screen problem. for the 4th replacement they decided to send me the new model.
i have the 3rd and 4th replacements sitting here side by side.the 3rd replacement, which has a yellow corner is light years better than the new one.
the new screen doesn't have yellow corners...it's a perfectly consistent yellowish brown tone.
the older one has a yellow corner, but is much more illuminated and very balanced white. the max brightness of the new one is only 3/4s of the max of the old one.i tried configuring it to no avail.
are all the new models like this?it's quite a bit snappier, but the screen is worse than the last 3 that had yellow patches? it almost seems like it was a return and it shipped from cali rather than asia?

I have had this macbook pro now for about 3-4 months and last week it started showing weird yellow/white stripes on places where it should be completely white. It comes and goes from time to time and it seems to be effected by the hardware itself, since when I move my screen it comes and goes. But when I make a screenshot of an opened window, like iCal, with lots of white space, it does not show the yellow-like stripes. I tried adjusting the contrast at universal access but it didn't work.

Pulled my coveted 12" 1.5 ghz powerbook out of its bag and it's has an annoying little opaque stripe about 3/4" along the right side of the display. It changes color from yellow to green. When I pinch the lower side of my display together, it goes back to the blue background color, but still has a distortion to it.

Has anyone else with a new MacBook Pro with Retina display notice a slight uneven yellow tint to their screen? On my screen it appears starting about midway down the screen and is more noticable on the left hand side. It is very faint, but enough to make me notice it when scrolling through webpages and the such. I am wondering if maybe this is the same glue drying issue with the iPhones that just came off the production line?
Also, when trying to run WebGL content in Safari (haven't tried it in a different browser yet), my MBP completely hard freezes and requires a power cycle to get it running again.

I'm experiencing a problem with my monitor on my 1.67 GHz PowerPC G4 recently. A few weeks ago the monitor would dim when extended past parallel. Now It dims past 30 degrees. It seems to be getting worse by the day. Anybody have any ideas why this is happening, and more importantly; how to fix it? By the way, I don't know much about the insides of these things.

I have an iMac G5 (rev. B with ambient light sensor) which has suddenly started having a problem where the entire screen is covered with pink artifacts. The iMac had been left on overnight and when waking up in the morning I found the screen looking like this and now it continues to stay like this no matter what I do. I have attached a screenshot and was wondering if anyone might have a clue what has caused this to happen

i have had a Macbook Pro which I got in mid 2008 and it just yesterday began doing something strange. After working in Mac OS X for a while I saw that many of the white areas on my screen were filled with purple lines. Most of my pics in my background are outlined with varying colors and I cannot figure out what is going on.
I began to suspect the graphics chip at first, so to test this theory I plugged it into an external display and the problem did not exist there so I concluded that it was not due to the graphics chip. I have a friend who performed some tests and believes that it is a problem in the connection between the monitor and the graphics chip and that certain bits of data just aren't making it through. I thought that this was a feasible problem, but to get a second opinion I took it to the local apple store on my university campus and they looked at it and also concluded that it was not a graphics chip problem, but that I may have to replace the whole display assembly. This was fairly expensive and I cannot afford to do that since time got away from me and I forgot to purchase applecare. (How stupid of me. Aargh!) Anyway, so I was wondering what is believed by the macrumors community to be the best option. I discovered that this problem seemed to happen on a lot of this particular model of macbook pro and that apple offered to replace the graphics chip for free because of it, but since they do not think it is a graphics chip issue, it appears that I am stuck.

I was using Audacity on my mac running 10.4.11, on some seriously large files (85MB mp3s were exported from these original wav files!), when during this these red vertical lines started popping up on my screen; mainly where a window had been moved. These lines haven't gone away and I'm not sure how to fix this problem. I'm stumped! Having repaired permissions and run the Disk Utility from the Install disk, I'm at a total loss. The intro/gray screen, apple logo doesn't have the red lines, but every other screen does.
