Bought my 1st Mac after 12 years on supersimple WebTV. NIB Rev 2 MBA SSD for $2K from eBay vendor 4 months ago. Facinated by it's capabilities, luminous screen and magazine-like form factor. Why can't I open many email attachments?
View 6 RepliesSome of the emails I receive from friends show a placeholder for an image. The placeholder has the filename (example.jpg) in the top left hand corner. In the centre of the placeholder is a tiny blue square with a question mark. Is there a way to display the pics in the email along with the text. Funny stories are not quite the same without the pics! I can preview & download the images with no problem. So it looks like the images are there, its just that mail doesn't want to display them sometimes?

The lines are for some reason "pressed" together, looks like the line size is half of what it should be. I' ve spent pretty much time trying to fix this.
I've noticed that strange yellow boxes will randomly appear on my display. This happens both on my external display and hte laptop screen. I've attached a screen shot of what it looks like. It's not application specific.

I have a mid-late 2008 MacBook connected to a Dell U2211H monitor using a Mini DisplayPort -> VGA connection.
When I use 1920x1080, I only get 60 Hz and the display is a fuzzy (text). Also, there are black bars. Why?
Will my issues be solved using a Mini DisplayPort -> DVI connection? Or should I exchange it for the 2209?
Is it possible to highlight text in Apple Mail for incoming mails and outgoing mails?

I'm currently using a 64-bit version of Windows 7 RC on an 21" iMac. But I've noticed that the display has a strange moire-like effect (picture looks "instable", like the surface of disturbed water), that is not present under MacOS 10.5. Any ideas what i causing the iMac display to look so different when running Windows? Is there a dedicated iMac display driver for this hardware that might change this?

1) the display will completely dim to the lowest setting or cycle between bright and dim, as if pressing f1 and/or f2 repeatedly
2) some of whatever she was typing or working on at the time will be deleted
3) a string of repeated characters (usually q1aq1aq1a) will appear in her typing
4) often the desktop is brought to the front as if pressing f11 in expose
5) other than the problems described, the computer continues to work normally
6) problems are almost always related to moving the hinge position, but sometimes happen randomly, with no movement at all
7) it will sometimes occur many times a day, then not at all for several days
8) it seems to happen more often when the computer is not on a hard surface, but this may just be my imagination or some random bad luck
I am at a loss as to what the problem may be. I was thinking it might be the display cable because of the link to hinge position, but that wouldn't account for the random typing. Then I thought it was the motherboard, but the computer seems to work ok other than this. I did realize the other day that most of the problems are things on the left hand edge of the keyboard (display brightness, the q1a pattern), but this doesn't account for the deleted typing and the mysterious f11 thing. Does anybody have any thoughts? Am I looking at a display cable (hopefully this is it - I have no problems with disassembling/reassembling things)? Or is it the motherboard (probably means it would be more economical to get a new machine)? Or is it something else?
fonts must be messed up in Snow Leopard. Some system things display strange fonts. For example, my user name in upper right hand corner of the screen doesn't look right.ALso, the font on the "tabs," in Safari is not correct, and I can compare it to other SL computers.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using MacOSX and Mac Mail. The cub scouts send a weekly newsletter via Scouttrack. When I view this on the Mac, I cannot see any attachments; it's like they are not there at all. When I view it from Outlook on a PC, it doesn't show the little paper clip, but when I open the email, then I can see that the attachments are there.
Is there any way to get the mail application on the Mac to recognize that there are attachments in the email??
In Safari, I save the webpage as PDF. Then, in Acrobat X or Preview, I copy the text and Paste into other programe, like word ,etc,So,the Chinese text can't display.Â

Why are my attachments not showing up as attachments when recieved. They are sent from Mail as windows "friendly" - but never the less always show up inlaid in the mail. The recipient then have to ctrl clik on the documents, save them on the harddrive before being able to fx print.

I purchased a new Mac Mini today (latest base version from Apple Store). I also purchased an LG 2240 (LED backlit) 22" monitor.
The monitor only has a VGA connection therefore I am using the VGA>Mini Display port converter from apple.
The monitor is generally working fine however the display / quality is very grainy, making the text very hard to read. Also although the text is crisp and jagged in quality.
Does anyone feel like the default text size in all applications is too small when your imac is set at it's best resolution?? I really hate to compromise some of the display quality by decreasing the resolution, but everything seems so small!!! I really hoped on a nice big screen i could look at things larger than I could on my laptop!! Is there anything I can do about this? I am new to Mac, so maybe I am just missing something.
View 5 Replies View RelatedCurrently I'm trying to look up something in the SVN book on line, and it's all Greek characters. If I view page source, the characters are displayed in the proper font. Google searches show several others having this problem, but no one had a solution. Someone posted a solution here, but it was redacted for some reason and the only part that makes sense is that I should but a product called Suitcase Fusion. I refuse to pay money to make my Mac stop displaying characters in Greek font at random. In some circles that can be considered extortion.

When I am on the internet sometimes my screen will not display certain characters or text boxes. When I was on a website the other day I was attempting to input some information and the screen would not display what I was typing or what would appear in the drop down boxes. And I have had this problem on several websites, but when I use a different computer it works just fine! I can't think of anything to do! I am heading a strange sound from my speaker, sounds like an application is causing it. I check the logs and I dont see any errors. a good method of tracking down the error? Is there a log file for system sounds or do I have to kill each application one by one and wait 2-3 mins between application kills to see if the sound comes back.

A bit of cooling worked momentarily. (used a 12 pack of cold beer placed under the computer :-) Now, starts and freezes after a couple seconds.Apple Service checked to see if it was one of the "defect" graphic cards. It is not. View 8 Replies View RelatedI bought a MacBook Pro about 10 days ago and it had several dead pixels. That got swapped out for another one which had bubbles of liquid under the glass. I'm on the third now which has a slightly warped case and is now making this clicking noise (0:15) every minute or so.
I don't know what to do - I feel so awkward going in and asking for another swap. Has anyone else got this noise?
Since I plugged my Cinema Display (20" alu) to my MacBook Air... I hear a strange sound inside the computer.
It comes as I guess from the graphic card, or the power, because when I turn off the screen (by putting down the brightness at its maximum), this time there is no sound anymore. When I turn it on, the sound restarts (by being high when the brightness is down, and down when the brightness is at its maximum).
I got a strange beep (about one second in length) when restarting my new MBP. It came after a two hour, 1.47 gb update to itunes after which itunes prompted me to restart my machine. It was not from my speakers, is it something with the motherboard?
