OS X V10.7 Lion :: Turn Off The Yellow Boxes That Have Started Appearing?
May 3, 2012
It seems that recently I have started having annoying yellow boxes appearing when I hover over thing in the finder window. This is something that I didn't have going on in the previous 3 versions of Mac OS X. Â
I've noticed that strange yellow boxes will randomly appear on my display. This happens both on my external display and hte laptop screen. I've attached a screen shot of what it looks like. It's not application specific.

This is driving me nuts. I'm working with a 400 page document where I frequently have to change styles. When I'm scrolling through the list, the huge styles tooltip hoverboxes pop up. They obscure 3 or 4 style options at a time, so I have to scroll farther than necessary to see them.
I've searched Words' preferences, but I can't find out where to disable the tooltips.
I was trying to fix something with the tabs in Safari (they kept reloading/refreshing every time I clicked back on one) and so I unchecked "Use multi-process windows" under the debug menu. However, now a lot of the links on websites appear as a bunch of A's inside little boxes (that sounds weird so I've included a picture below as an example) I feel like maybe trying to fix the tabs issue simply complicated things and now it's difficult to navigate on some sites
I have dozens of large PSD files (well 200 of them each abt 200mb) on a network drive folder that I need to access frequently. Access to these is really slow because it seems to want to create thumbnails every time I access that folder. I don't need thumbnails as all the files have a strict naming convention so I know what I want by name. Whatever view I use to load files (I'm using Photoshop CS5) (list, column, icons) it always tries to put a little thumbnail preview next to the file name. Is there something I can type into Terminal that will stop it doing this.
i cannot find imported mailboxes. if i try to setup a new mailbox, it shows the existence of the mailboxes under location/on my mac. they do not show up in the mailbox list. where would they be located so that i can retrieve them?
I've just done an Apple software upgrade & its changed the colour of the background on "log in" boxes for all the sites I now visit via my isp?The background colour is now black - which makes it impossible to see what you have typed.
Alu 24" 2.4ghz when they first came out with aluminum, got it at the store. since august 07 My imac had a small yellow tint, i noticed, when i got it and it was not worth anyhting screaming about, i also noticed it had bleeding issues ath the bottom and sides. I wanted to return it or trade but i was convinced out of it.
Now i noticed that from left to right their is a prominent yellow tint streaking it's way across and fading around the half way point. It is irritating and sad to see this display on this mac was ok, at first but it is geting slightly worse.I have apple care, can i trade this/replace it at an applestore, or would they need to fix it?
I have been having intermittent trouble with my USB ports on my Early 2011 MBP 13" i7. One port was dead. This started when I upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard. In order to see if the problem was with the installation of Lion, I cloned my drive with Lion 10.7.3 on it and then reinstalled Snow Leopard OS from the disks that came with the computer. The problem disappeared. I restored the clone of my drive with Lion on it and the problem did not occur again... right away. Now after a day of using the computer with the restored clone with Lion on it, the problem cropped up again, but not as bad as it was before. The port stopped working, but when I unplugged the device and plugged it in again, the port worked.
I am wondering if this could be a driver issue. I just happened to notice that iTunesHelper has a Yellow Warning triangle in the Login Items window in the Accounts System preferences. And Kind is listed as Unknown. In another MBP 13" I use at work, that has Lion 10.7.3 on it, iTunesHelper has Kind listed as Application with no yellow warning triangle. Is this something to be concerned about?

Some weeks ago the screen on my iMac started to go blank. The only way to recover was to re-boot. The problem got worse until the machine became un-usable. I tried everything I knew, including switching off and unplugging to reset the pram as suggested, but eventually took it to the Apple Store where the 'expert' reset the pram the old way holding down the cmd/opt/p/r keys on startup. Problem solved (why do Apple give bad advice to clear the pram?).
Something had corrupted the software that drives the screen. The only program that I could think might have done that was ScreenRecycler which I have now stopped using. However, the problem has started to re-appear, the only new program I have used is Audirvana which being a music program should not affect the screen.

I am getting a pop up error message with a yellow triangle and yellow exclamation point in Safari but it immediately disappears after it appears. This happens so fast that I cannot read the error message. A java applet for my bank's website is not running properly and knowing what the error message is might help solve the problem.

I am having a strange problem with image thumbnails not appearing in Finder. I am editing some very large TIF files on a Macbook that is running Lion. These images are edited on an external drive, and when I hook the drive up to my main iMac, which is running Leopard, the new images I have created in Lion do not have thumbnails. The only way that they will appear is if I open the images in Photoshop and just resave them on the machine running Leopard. This method poses a problem because each image takes about 5-8 minutes to open, and another 5-8 to save. I have hundreds of images and don't have the time to do that to each one.Â
I have an IMAP email account that's over a decade old. It's going away soon so I'm trying to figure out how to get a complete local copy of all that email. There are a total of around 100 folders with anywhere from 5 to over 2000 emails in each folder.
The problem: there's email on the server that isn't showing up in Mail. For instance one folder (according to the webmail interface) has 771 messages. Mail says that folder has 700 messages.Looking at the webmail interface I can easily find several of the 71 emails that are not appearing in Mail. In Mail, if I select the folder and "Get Account Info" and look at the Quotas section, it lists the correct number of email messages (771). If I rebuild the folder, as it's being rebuilt the blue progress bar at the bottom left of Mail says there are 771 incoming messages. But when it's done, I can only see 700.
I just double checked on a second computer (MacBook Pro, also latest 10.7 version & Mail) and it's the same there, it only sees 700 messages. Now, repeat this times the roughly 100 folders .What's going on here? Why isn't Mail downloading or displaying these emails?
I have a MBP 15.4 with Mac OSX 10.7.4. Since the past few weeks my screen-saver pops up automatically while I'm typing, and my skype and adium status appears as idle all the time, it seems like the computer status is set to idle even though I'm using it.
Where are my downloads? The tab appears, but there is no document. And they are not in the downloads file. It is probably a setting, but I can't figure it out.

I have added a user named 'kat' to the users tab. She does not however show up in the sharepoint permissions list. Instead, I get what looks to be a serial number showing up.Â
See here:Â [URL]
If I use the + and add her as a user in the sharepoint and click done it looks as if it went through:Â [URL]
If I nagivate to another panel in 'server' and then come back to the sharepoints, she is no longer listed and the same serial number type is listed down at the bottom:Â [URL]Â
note I blurred out names of our staff for privay purposes.Â
This user is not able to modify any files on the server. Her permissions are read only.Â
The machine she is connecting with is OS X Snow Leopard.Â
When opening a finder window there are now several unwanted icons on the toolbar, 2 are for games and one for a certain website. Don't know how they got there and customizing the toolbar does nothing to remove them or show how they got there either.
This didn't happen in the past and now if I send any type of attachment from work (png or zip for instance), the attachment only appears as a winmail.dat file on both my MacBook Pro running 10.7.3 and my iPhone running iOS5.1
The important thing here is the attachment is actually being set out correctly. I know this because if I pick it up using the web interface of my mail provider, the attachments are all present and correct.
Therefore the problem lies somewhere in iOS5.1 or OS10.7.3Â
I got my mail accounts set-up on Mail 5.2 and it's working properly in that I can send and receive mail from three different IMAP accounts. The only problem is that sent mail items are not showing up when I login online to access my mail. I would like everything on my desktop mail account to be exactly the same as what I see online as far as read messages, unread messages and of course, the sent items that I have sent should be logged on the original mail account as well as on my computer.Â
I have already enabled "store sent messages on the server."
I use Mail on my MacPro w/ a gmail account. I have a client who doesn't want his name appearing next to his email address when I write to him. I've deleted his address book vcard & turned off the auto address completion in prefs. Still no good.
When the system request my administrator password the window that appears always shown strange characters. I type my password and works fine. I tried restarting the computer, but did not fix the problem. What can I do? what is this for?
When I am in the office connected via the local LAN the share screen button in Finder is displayed. When I am at home anc connected via broadband I can still see the server and shares but I have no share screen button. Is there a preference that needs to be set somewhere to enable the remote share screen or is it more likely to be a firewall issue with a blocked port?
If I am in Mail on my MacBook the mail program knows nothing about any addresses in my contact list.
The Address Panel and Previous Contacts lists are empty.Â
If I open my contacts list - I see all my contacts properly.
They also sync properly between my phone and macbook. I can add a contact to my pone and a second or two later it appears on my MB; and I can add a contact to my MB and seconds later it appears on my phone.
Here is when I believe the problem started.
I wanted all my mail and contacts to be in my 'documents' folder so I could sync that folder, and only that folder, between multiple places and machines and also backup everything in one fell swoop.
a) I moved the mail and the application support/addressbook folders from my library to my docs folder. b) In the terminal created hard links in the original places pointing to the new. I was careful to make hard links not soft.
From the finder and from the terminal the links are all working fine works fine. And as I mentioned the sync function to my phone finds the moved files and works great. Mail work fine. I can create new accounts etc so mail preferences work fine. I also did this with my messages and dropbox and they are working fine.
I am running 10.8.2 build 12C60 and Mail 6.2 (1499)Â on a MB Pro 15" Early'08Â 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Could Mail have a relative address or very low level address to the addressbook built into it?Â

I'm about to order Snow Leopard, but I saw that little disclaimer as I was filling out my shipping address. I've had packages delivered from Amazon to my mailbox before, from UPS, USPS, and FedEx Ground. Should I go ahead and have Snow Leopard shipped to my box?
Since the last OS update to snow leopard my dialog boxes have looked different. I'm assuming this isn't how they are supposed to look. Does anyone have any idea whats going on or how to fix it?
You know, the boxes you could select so that iTunes would skip the track? Because right now I'm editing the songs to be one second long, I'd rather just uncheck the box.
