MacBook Pro :: Stop Control Button From Moving Apps And Exposing Desktop
Apr 27, 2012
How can I stop the control button from moving the open applications up and exposing the desktop? It is getting very annoying when I want to use the control button for other functions. I tried looking in settings under keyboard, but found nothing.
My MBP has this issue every once in a while where I have to hold the power button and force shut down. Randomly the volume keys/brightness etc. stop working and i can't open apps or shut it down normally. Everything still works though (can still function in open applications) Anyone know what the problem is? It fixes when I force reset.
I have done this before where I disabled infrared control on the MacBook Pro but for the life of me I cant find the spot where to disable it on the MacBook.Â
I just discovered the Remote app which controls iTunes and I was wondering if there were any more apps with similar functionality that control other things on the MacBook Pro, and if you happen to know, also what is the cost? I'm really loving this new MacBook Pro of mine and discovering all of the cool things it can do.
I open two apps in my macbook, how can i select the app without clicking on it?.I know that f3 > mission control and then click, but i want to switch between apps with keyboard shortcut.
I have a 46 gig itunes music folder that I had moved from my PC to a NAS several months ago. I set up itunes to have the music folder on the Macbook that I use day-to-day point to the songs on the NA. The songs link to the respective folder on /Volume/Music/Artist/Album/song The NAS has been having issues staying connected so I just moved all new songs (I had kept at least 44 gigs on the PC as a backup when I did this 6 months ago) from the NAS to the PC. I finally figured out a way to reliably connect to the PC (running Win7) from the Macbook via SMB. The songs are now located on Volume/iTunes Music/Artist/Album/Song My question is - how do I instruct itunes that the songs are now located on the PC rather than the NAS? Should I just 'delete' all files in iTunes and then add the PC's folder? Is there a better way??
I think this is a problem that started with Snow Leopard and I'm wondering if there's a solution to it yet.
Right now I have iTunes open playing music, as well as a paused video in VLC. When I press the play/pause button (F8) on my black late 2008 MacBook, it pauses iTunes but then unpauses the VLC video. This is obviously totally unwanted behavior. How do I fix this so that this button only controls one app at a time?
When we upgraded to 10.5 and got the new iMac (I don't know which one caused the problem) I noticed that the Command, control, alt, and shift button all act like caps lock. I use those buttons all the time, and if I accidentally press one and have no idea what it is, I am stuck trying to figure out what to do.
1. I have the newest 15'' MBP i5 (mid range model). I have only had my MBP for 2 months and have done the monthly cycle religiously for my battery. Now, I am not stupid and I realize overtime, the life of my battery will continuously decrease but currently my charge is only at 95%. I use Coconut battery, and it seems every time I take my MBP of the charger it goes down by 1%. Can anyone help explain this for me? Is my charger defective?
Also, I use the GPU info app for my MBP and it is always showing that I am using the NVIDIA GPU when Im not using any intensive programs, only Chrome. Why would this be? Are there programs running in the background that I cannot see? And if so, how can I stop or delete the ones I dont use.
I currently have Steermouse installed but I only use it for this 'snap to' function - I only use the track pad. Are there any other apps (pref free) that provide this function? I am experiencing loss of cursor movement after hibernation and always have to restart the machine. I am going to un-install Steermouse pretty soon and then see if the problem still occurs. In the meantime if there are any alternatives it would be good to know. I am surprised its not a built in standard pref!
Gave my son an iPOD last Christmas, 8 GB, now running 1.0.3 software. Nano I think. Has worked fine until now. Unit seems frozen. Was finally able to restore the unit after several attempts following Apple procedure but wheel button does not provide control so we cannot even select language to proceed. iTunes still recognizes the unit and appears on desktop but that's it. Display also quickly goes into "sleep" mode and dims. Battery display indicates full charge. Wondering if the wheel button is shot. I'm far from an iPod expert.
I just bought a new keyboard for my mac, and although it is very sleek (but the keys are smaller), I have a problem. I cannot configure Control-F11 as an application shortcut. It will only decrease the volume when I try to set it as that. Is there a way to do this? (*Better be )
After leaving machine on all night as I usuaaly do in the middle of a project I came in this morning to find power button blinking no -stop. No images on displays.Have reseated RAM (original 2G from Apple and subsequent modules (4x2) from OWC) twice and no change. No peripherals connected and no change.
Info:Mac OS X (10.6.8), Mac Pro 3.0/8-Core, 18G RAM, 2-1Tb
Does anyone know if it's possible, and if so how, to stop my iMac from registering when I use my little white Apple remote (the one that comes with iMac, AppleTV etc)? Reason being when I go to run through my AppleTV menu my iMac registers each press as well.
I have the Remote app for my iPhone and iPad but I'd rather be able to use the Apple remote aswell for quick pauses etc., so as to not have to load the app just to pause, skip etc., if I'm using my iPhone/iPad for something else at the time.
I saw this little "trick" command, control, alt, 8 in a Mac article a few weeks ago. It was nothing more than a cool, little screen alteration that makes the screen go negative. I tried it after first getting my Mac. Just this past week, I tried to do it again and it is not working. Not that it is a serious issue however it is more of a curiousity why it stopped. Did some application I installed on my machine cause this feature to halt? Just curious if anyone has the answer. I tried disabling Shades, Growl and even turned off my power settings to see if that was interfering.
How can I move apps from my mac to my ipad? Both have icloud...itunes... & I manually connected them .. how to put my previously purchased app over to my ipad?
How do I get an app to stick in a desktop. I have the mission control desktop and then desktops 1 through 7. I have them all opening up various applicaitons, but even though I move the app to the desktop I want, and I shut down with the app open in that desktop, on restart it opens up in the wrong desktop...always the same one, but always the wrong one. iTunes - I put it in Desktop 7, its there when I shut down. It always opens up in Desktop 1. I don't have trouble with calendar, mail, addressbook. Also, sometimes 'finder' folders that I have left open in a specific window when I shut down do not open up on restart. They do sometimes, but most of the time not.Â
If I have some MP3 files on my computer that have not been imported into iTunes and I import them by selecting them and opening them (thereby opening iTunes, copying the files to the Music folder, and adding it to the library), I noticed that the pause button becomes a stop button when it automatically starts playing a track. If I click the stop button, it stops playing the track, and when I click play again, it is not a pause button.
lateral swipes on my magic mouse or trackpad now cause sceens to move sideways, loading other screens into the monitor's viewing area. How do I turn this off?
For approximately one week I have been getting a scratching sound when I move the mouse pointer accross desktop no matter what program I am running. Current OS is MAC OS X 10.7.3. Sound continues when I turn sound off.
Paypal limited my account yesterday so do not use various IP addresses when you're paying using Paypal.
I'm thinking of opening a new account using a new email address. Therefore I have to open a new iTunes account too.
What I'm worried about are the sixty free apps I'm using on iPad. Will I be able to update free apps using the new account or I have to redownload all of them?
I have an iMac that I have a second display hooked up to it. I can move an app (say Safari for example) from one display to another with my Magic Mouse. However, I also have a Magic Trackpad that I would like to do the same thing with, but I cannot figure out for the life of me how to do it. I'd really rather use the trackpad than the mouse because it's more comfortable to me.Â
