View 10 RepliesThis is my first post on the forums, although I'm planning on looking around in here once in a while, to see what people are posting.
For starters, I just wanted to tell you about this little problem I've been having with my MacBook 1,83GHz.
Sitting at my desk at work one morning, peacefully drinking my coffee, I suddenly received a rather discomforting error-message from my shiny new (about 1 month old) MacBook;
"A USB devise is currently drawing too much power and the port will be deactivated.".
Whenever I try to manipulate a chart in Excel, my formatting palette will not open all of the way? The formatting palette opens completely in Microsoft Word.

In the last two weeks, every time I plug my Apple 27" display cables into my macbook (power, display and USB connections), I get the following error message on my screen about USB ports are drawing too much power. I don't have anything plugged into the USB ports on the back of my display.

Tonight I've been transfering all my files over from my old MacBook and everytime I try to connect my IPhone 3GS by USB to my Mac a message comes up straight away saying "A device conected to your computer is drawing too much power, apple has disconected this device to prevent damage occuring to your computer"
I have tried to connect my phone numerous times while it has been conected to the power cord and also running on battery.
It also took my new Mac a good half an hour to recognise my external hard drive was connected and let me use it..
I have had this problem once or twice with the same IPhone and my old mac so im thinking it may be a problem with my phone considering it is 2 years old now?
But then again, my old mac that is nearly 4 can still connect to my phone when my new MBP can't.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to start "Special Characters" to get the Character Palette I get nothing. Yesterday I installed "Monolingual" and got rid of all other languages except English. Did this create the problem? If not, or even if it did, how do I get the Character Palette back?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHave recently started using 10.5.5 on new machine. Found Character Palette OK, but cannot work out how to add characters to favorites. I must be overlooking something ???? Didn't have this problem before.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI hate this floating thing. Excel's too. Every time I resize a document window I have to move that stupid little palette around.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to copy over a specific cross (✚) character from the Character Palette to Photoshop, but when I double-click the cross it imports as another character and changes the font type to Myriad Pro. I try to change the font back to Lucida Grande but it just stays on Myriad Pro. I've noticed this happens with a few characters. I've had prior success with characters like command (⌘) which initially shows up as another character, and then I just change the font to Lucida Grande and it shows up correctly. I'm used to being able to just do a regular copy and paste in Windows but can't seem to figure it out on a Mac. (For example, you can copy and paste those characters I included above.) Edit: I just noticed the layer name actually comes up as ✚ so I'm not sure why it's not showig up in the actual layer. Here's a screenshot of the contextual layer menu.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac 24" 28Ghz (1Mac,8.1) and want to connect a second palette monitor to the mini DVI port, using a mini DVI to VGA connector. Search Apple's forums shows issues with cursor jumping and wrong resolutions. I really want to run my Adobe CS4 suite with the tabbed palettes on the second monitor to my right.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an late 08 unibody Mbp and a 11 mba, I have noticed the glass trackpad on the air is much closer to the glass on an iphone in the way your finger reacts to it... the least bit of moisture and your finger doesn't glide as easily. On the pro it seems to have more of a coating to allow for smoother use under these normal conditions (humidity). Has anyone else noticed this? bottom line the air trackpad almost seems more polished.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use the format palette all the time. Somehow, it's disappeared now, and every time I use the correct instructions to get it back (view palette, etc) it doesn't come out. I see something flashing across the screen, almost as if it is hiding from me, but I can't get it back.

Who would want to encode in 256 colors? Why would you use the ancient Graphics codec??
Well, I am. Get over it! If I just encode a movie with Graphics codec, it obviously looks very dithered and crappy.
I can generate an optimized color palette in Photoshop and export that table to an .act file. But how do I associte that color palette with my Quicktime?

My MB's trackpad button is spoilt, I think there's something wrong with the spring which makes it unclickable and sometimes remains pressed.
Is there anyway to disable only the trackpad button but not the whole trackpad? Tapping still works, but the MB mistakens it as dragging sometimes because the button is stuck as a pressed button.
My iMac says my wacom tablet is drawing too much power and won't allow it to run. This has never happened before. I've owned them both together for about a year.

I'm looking for some drawing software specialized in scientific and physics diagrams. I need to draw forces, vectors, tilted planes with sliding blocks and other schematics. I don't need the tool to do maths calculations or to plot functions, data manipulations, etc. Just a drawing tool for diagrams, schematics, with the usual arrows, vectorial symbols etc.

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust recently, I keep receiving an error, every couple of minutes or so, thats states: "A USB device is currently drawing too much power. The hub to which it is attached to will be deactivated." Now I have seen this same problem posted, but I have No Device hooked up at all. I have a 2 year old macbook pro 2.4 GHz, running 10.5 I've tried rebooting but it continues to occur.

Inspiration has been recommended, though it is a lot for just what I need, which is basic shapes and lines. I'm a football coach drawing up plays, then I output to a word document, which becomes the playbook.

Can anyone recommend a decent drawing and/or painting program that will not blow a huge hole in my wallet? (under $100).

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a tough one regarding an iMac G5 ALS 17" 2Mhz I am fixing. First I want to point out that I am familiar with the innards of these ancient beasts as I have fixed a couple 1st gen iMac G5 as well as iSights and Duos.
When I plug in the cord in the PSU, the 1st diagnostic LED comes on but when trying to start the computer the second diagnostic LED comes briefly on and then goes off. Nothing else happens, no chimes, nothing. According to Apple KB this is the sign of a faulty PSU. Yet, I have tried replacing the PSU and I get the same result.
Now the weird part is that if I unhook the LCD cable the computer starts normally (it chimes) with the display off. What is most puzzling is that it will start with the inverter hooked up but the LCD display cable off but will not start with the inverter entirely taken off but with the LCD cable on. It seems that it is the LCD itself that prevent the computer from starting. I thought the inverter would draw current but not the LCD itself so it's probably something else.
Anybody had anything similar happen to them? Could it be that the inverter is faly but it only draws when the LCD is hooked? Could it be some kind of short in the LCD or something that make it draw even with the inverter unhooked?
