View 8 RepliesI use the format palette all the time. Somehow, it's disappeared now, and every time I use the correct instructions to get it back (view palette, etc) it doesn't come out. I see something flashing across the screen, almost as if it is hiding from me, but I can't get it back.

I've been having a problem with word 08 where every time I try to format a word as bold, the entire document is formatted as bold. When I undo, the document goes back to what it originally was, but the desired text is bold. It seems almost like word formats the desired selection and then does some sort of autoformatting that takes over the whole document, which is why I am able to undo it. Normally it's only a slight inconvenience, but now that I am writing my thesis, formatting is key, and I can't afford to have random formatting changes.

They say the numbers conversion does not translate well to Excel and pages to word. Do I load MS Office in the windows OS? How can i access the numbers file in the Mac OS to use in the Windows OS on Excel? Is this a better option than loading Office for Mac? I need the formatting that I put into the excel file lto hold.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIts time for me to upgrade my macbook pro(2007 model). I really want to get another mac, as they are pretty, sturdy, run windows if needed and have good battery. Problem is theres no bloomin dock! At work I have a dell latitude that I can carry around, and just sits into a dock to connect to my peripherals when I am at my desk. Most folks say its just a few wires, and only takes 30 seconds, but not really. I would have:
3 External Disks.
Speakers.
Ergonomic keyboard(not mac wireless).
Ergonomic mouse(not mighty mouse).
USB interfacing guitar pedal.
Card reader.
Monitor.
That's a short list and could be longer if I add ipods etc. My point is, or rather, my question is why don't apple do docking stations? They used to do them? Loads of other companies do them.
if they made a version of this for the MBA with a DVD drive (and cheaper), MBA life would be that much sweeter
View 3 Replies View RelatedI noticed Kennsington's wireless USB docking station on sale at Frys Site earlier this morning. The description mentions the docking station is Mac compatible. I've searched these forums and the net and haven't found any threads on people using this with a Mac in the past, it seems wayyy too good to be true. I was hoping somebody a little more tech savvy than myself might be able to weigh in on this. I attached the link to the USB docking station below and I also own a mid-late 2008 MBP. [URL].

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a few MBPs, the 15 inch model. At my desk, there is a tangle of cords: Two scanners, keyboard, mouse, audio to speakers, and wired Ethernet. Today this is connected via a USB hub, plus audio and Ethernet. To make things worse, the Apple USB to Ethernet dongle doesn't like to work through my cheapo USB hub, nor do the scanners (HP flatbed and Fujitsu autofeed), so I can't use it to reduce the number of cables. By the way, that USB hub is able to handle scanners and keyboard just fine when on a Windows laptop. Ideally, I would like the reduce the number of cables needed at the desk to three: power (magsafe), video (thunderbolt), and all the rest via a single USB cable. Switching to the Apple Thunderbolt display is a non-option for various reasons.
So what I'm looking for is a USB hub with built-in Ethernet and built-in audio, and which works with a Mac. It has to have at least 4 ports (a few more spares would be better) and has to have USB 2.0 speed to make Ethernet sensible. On the web, there are lots of stories of USB hubs that DON'T work MBPs (the one on my desk is an example). To make matters even more interesting, I haven't found a USB hub with built-in Ethernet *and* audio yet, so I might have to use an inexpensive USB audio dongle. So are there any examples of USB hubs with > 4 ports, Ethernet and audio that someone has seen actually work with Macs? If those don't exist, are there any examples without audio?

When I try to start "Special Characters" to get the Character Palette I get nothing. Yesterday I installed "Monolingual" and got rid of all other languages except English. Did this create the problem? If not, or even if it did, how do I get the Character Palette back?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to copy over a specific cross (✚) character from the Character Palette to Photoshop, but when I double-click the cross it imports as another character and changes the font type to Myriad Pro. I try to change the font back to Lucida Grande but it just stays on Myriad Pro. I've noticed this happens with a few characters. I've had prior success with characters like command (⌘) which initially shows up as another character, and then I just change the font to Lucida Grande and it shows up correctly. I'm used to being able to just do a regular copy and paste in Windows but can't seem to figure it out on a Mac. (For example, you can copy and paste those characters I included above.) Edit: I just noticed the layer name actually comes up as ✚ so I'm not sure why it's not showig up in the actual layer. Here's a screenshot of the contextual layer menu.

Who would want to encode in 256 colors? Why would you use the ancient Graphics codec??Â
Well, I am. Get over it! Â If I just encode a movie with Graphics codec, it obviously looks very dithered and crappy. Â

I'd like to insert the Date in the appropriate space on a letter. It seems that I cannot do this without inserting the day of the week and the time. When I look for a way to change this format, it seems that iPages only instructs me on how to change it when I am using the date/time in a cell in a table. How do I do it for a plain old letter?

Also, in iChat wen I click his name and go to ask to share his screen, that too is greyed out. Edit: I told them to go to the iChat menu video and click screen sharing, but that is greyed out as well. I can screenshare with her, but not him. The connection doctor has Screen sharing and Multiperson video chat Xed out due to a slow connection. So I guess I shouldn't be able to connect to either of the, but I can connect to hers, so I should be able to connect to his.

View 12 Replies View RelatedIn Mail preferences I have message font set to Verdana and in the 'Composing' pane I have ensured that messages are sent as Rich Text, and yet I have a persistent and frustrating problem with Mail.app failing to apply font formatting to outgoing messages. When composing new messages everything looks fine (i.e. text displays in Verdana), but Mail isn't applying the formatting to emails; looking at the raw source of sent messages, Mail seems to be sending Plain Text messages with no formatting applied:
Code:
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed; delsp=yes
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Mime-Version: 1.0 (Apple Message framework v936)
Further adding to my confusion, if I append a formatted signature (configured in Mail preferences) to messages, the signature IS correctly formatted (in Verdana, no less).....
My dad was saving a bunch of Word docs on his Mac - he had one large file that he split up into twenty-some smaller files, which he then saved onto both his desktop and on a flash drive. Somehow along the way (neither he nor I had any clue how) but 4 of those files saved as an alias that point to nowhere. In other words, I can't find the originals anywhere on his computer or flash drives.
Even stranger is that one of those files aliased to the Applications folder. Keep in mind these are all supposed to be word documents. They all still end with .doc, but their type is an alias. I have no clue how they were created as an alias, but they were. It's probably a longshot without knowing where the original is located, but do any of you guys know how to possibly retrieve this?
When copying a table from say a webpage or even a RTF file, Pages does not retain its table formatting. Instead it separates the rows and columns and puts them on separate lines.
See it for yourself, try copying one of the tables on this page into Pages [URL]
The only way I can get the table into Pages is to paste into NeoOffice (which retains the correct formating), save the file with the .doc extension then open in Pages.
