MacBook Pro :: Disconnects IPhone Everytime Saying The USB Is Drawing Too Much Power?
Apr 14, 2012
Tonight I've been transfering all my files over from my old MacBook and everytime I try to connect my IPhone 3GS by USB to my Mac a message comes up straight away saying "A device conected to your computer is drawing too much power, apple has disconected this device to prevent damage occuring to your computer"
I have tried to connect my phone numerous times while it has been conected to the power cord and also running on battery.
It also took my new Mac a good half an hour to recognise my external hard drive was connected and let me use it..
I have had this problem once or twice with the same IPhone and my old mac so im thinking it may be a problem with my phone considering it is 2 years old now?
But then again, my old mac that is nearly 4 can still connect to my phone when my new MBP can't.
This is my first post on the forums, although I'm planning on looking around in here once in a while, to see what people are posting.
For starters, I just wanted to tell you about this little problem I've been having with my MacBook 1,83GHz.
Sitting at my desk at work one morning, peacefully drinking my coffee, I suddenly received a rather discomforting error-message from my shiny new (about 1 month old) MacBook;
"A USB devise is currently drawing too much power and the port will be deactivated.".
I keep receiving this message, over and over, sometimes stacked 6 times or so, but the only issue is that I have nothing plugged into my USB at all. I tried restarting, but it didn't work.
In the last two weeks, every time I plug my Apple 27" display cables into my macbook (power, display and USB connections), I get the following error message on my screen about USB ports are drawing too much power. I don't have anything plugged into the USB ports on the back of my display.
Info: MacBook Pro, IMac, Mac Mini, etc., Mac OS X (10.4.8)
I have Macbook Pro Early 2011. recently my USB device stops working and I am getting message " The USB device drawing too much power has been disabled"and MacBook Pro getting over heated.
My iMac says my wacom tablet is drawing too much power and won't allow it to run. This has never happened before. I've owned them both together for about a year.
I have had several issues with the USB on my brand-new Core i5 macbook pro. It randomly disconnects USB devices. I've had the issue with multiple USB devices - same story with each one. Further, iTunes will only recognize my iPhone if it is in the port nearest the magsafe connector. The other port fails to recognize my iPhone entirely. Anyone else having a USB issue on their base 15" that was released today?
Furthermore, any suggestions of what to do about it? I'm having a hell of a time restoring my iPhone with this issue... And the Apple Store is over an hour away-I planned a special trip to buy this laptop.
Just recently, I keep receiving an error, every couple of minutes or so, thats states: "A USB device is currently drawing too much power. The hub to which it is attached to will be deactivated." Now I have seen this same problem posted, but I have No Device hooked up at all. I have a 2 year old macbook pro 2.4 GHz, running 10.5 I've tried rebooting but it continues to occur.
Well, I just recently received a used wired apple keyboard, but whenever I try to plug it into any USB port, I get the following error: Even when I unplug every other USB device, I get this error. I'm using a Mac Mini.
I'm using iMac with wireless mouse and keyboard.Once,I've unplugged flash memory directly without eject, USB error message shown on the screen,After that, although I've removed all of usb devices&cables on the connector,But USB error message always pop up periodically.I tried SMC reset, But issue still existed?
I get this strange message every so often, sometimes more often than other times. It says:
USB port drawing too much power. The device that is plugged into it will be deactivated.
There are only two things plugged into the USB-The keyboard and mouse. When I get this message, the mouse freezes. If I jiggle the mouse cable where it is plugged into the USB, it comes back and everything is fine until this message comes up again.
Whilst working on my iMac as per normal, I get this little window that pops up declaring that a USB decice is drawing too much power from my computer and as as a result, one or more of my USB devices has been disabled.
This is not an alien dialogue box to me, I have seen it many times. The problem this time is that, when I removed all my devices to see which one was causing the message to pop up, I discovered that it was my keyboard that was misbehaving.
When the message pops up it states that the offending device has been disabled. This cannot be the case however, as I am able to press enter to close it, and if the keyboard truly is the problem then I shouldn't be able to close it with enter because it would have been disabled... right?
Wondering if anyone else has had this problem. My keyboard is the standard wired + number pad one shipped free with new iMacs. It's not a custom one, it's apple stock through and through.
The baffling thing is that this has only just occured. In the year or two since I bought my iMac it's never been a problem.
Yes I have tried using a different USB slot, and no that doesn't fix it.
This box keeps popping up unless I disconnect my keyboard which of course is no way to use the computer, and I don't have a spare keyboard handy.
I have a power mac G5 and after I updated to the highest software update available, I find that iTunes and Safari reset their data everytime I close them. I have checked all settings and tried resetting to regular software and trying again.
I am traveling to South Africa and have heard that the power surges are a frequent occurance. In addition to the type "M" adapter should I bring a power surge protector strip and can it have several outlets? Do I need a step down transformer as well that goes between the M adaptor in the wall outlet and the power strip? Can this also be used with other electronics like the Ipod and hairdryers?
I was wondering what you do to get the oil smudges off of your blackbooks body? I cant seem to get them off. I have tried some lysol wipes which helped, but not much. I dont want to use gloves everytime I use my Mac
I got a MBP just last month, the battery capacity has decreased to 97%.
However, recently, when I turn my MBP on and I check Coconut Battery, the battery capacity remains at 97% but my battery charge is only at 20%. And I kind of leave my MBP plugged in all the time usually at 100% charge, I have no idea why the battery charge keeps dropping and if this is normal.
As in after I charge it up, turn it off overnight, turn it on the next morning, the battery charge is only 20% and it doesn't charge until I unplug it and plug it in again.
I followed the instructions here: [URL] to install iphone sdk on power pc using pacifist. However after the installation of the files , the mac used md5 checksum to validate the files and files were found not to pass. I then cancelled the validation. However I could not find the SDK programs that were installed in the mac. How do I delete the 5gb of stuff that was installed as I can'tfind them anywhere? I then proceed to attempt one of the comments instructions on that page:
1. Make the iPhone SDK.dmg read/write-able with Disk Utility using convert -> to read/write. 2. Mount the R/W dmg. 3. You need to delete some unneccessary file so that you can modify the installer config file, because the image is completely full. I choose the PDF in the root of the dmg. 4. Modify /Volumes/iPhone SDK/iPhone SDK.mpkg/Contents/iPhoneSDK.dist : - Line 71 ( in function agreedToSLA() ) - modify "return false;" to "return true;" - Line 81 ( in function SDKPresent() ) - modify "return false;" to "return true;"
but I was unable to attempt part 4 as I couldn't find iPhoneSDK.dist to modify.
I've got a MacBook 3,1 (White, late 08 model) which is happily connecting to the wireless network but refusing to use the internet. Other computers on the network use it fine.
What's more, when I restart to my bootcamp partition, the internet works fine. It's only in Mac OS that I have a problem.
I just bought a MacBook. So far I am loving it. Unfortunately a very strange thing happens. Whenever I download something with the Macbook every other device at my house becomes unable to connect to the internet until the download is finished. It doesn't matter if it is a WiFi device or not. The connected devices are: a WinXP Netbook, an ubuntu9.10 desktop PC (please notice this is connected with an Ethernet cable, it's not wifi), a WiFi and a Samsung Bluray reader. To complicate things even further, I noticed that even the MacBook itself cannot do anything else (such as browsing the web w/ Safari and/or Firefox). I tried to download large files such as a movie from iTunes store and the iPhone SDK. The download rate is about 600Kb/sec.
I have a 6Mb/sec DSL w/ AT&T and the modem is a 2WIRE 1701HG. Granted, it's pretty cool to have a laptop that can hose wireless networks. Can I use a Power Mac G4 to develop iPhone applications? I have a 400 mhz Power Mac with 512 meg of RAM and a 20 gig HD. Is this enough to run the OS that the iPhone SDK requires. I have a .dmg file that is named iphone_sdk_3.1.2_with_xcode_3.1.2_snow_leopard_10m2003.dmg. Will this G4 run Snow Leopard effectively or at all? Am I barking up the wrong tree with this old dog ? I'd rather know now so I don't waste my time chasing my tail and instead get the right hardware and software to get going with this.
My Macbook Pro does not always turn on first time, it takes awhile to click on, it just clicks every time I try to turn it on, It turns on when its warm though, it also turns off when I close the lid, but the light says it is on, after leaving the lid closed for more then 5 minutes, and I open the lid it is turned off? I do not understand what is cuasing the problem?
I've recently moved into student accommodation, which only has wired internet access in the rooms. This is fine for my MacBook, but causes problems for the iPad! So I've been attempting to share the MacBook's internet connection through AirPort using the "Internet Sharing" option in System Prefs->Sharing. This works great, but after a while it disconnects for no apparent reason.
