Hey all, I'd like to know how to check the status of my hardware, particularly my RAM and graphics card. I remember partitioning some of each, along with some of my harddrive space, to an application a while back that has now been deleted. However, it seems as if my computer isn't running as quickly as it had been. Is there any way to redirect all hardware power to my harddrive, and delete all other partitions? I haven't messed around with it much, yet, but I'd like to get a lead from someone who has done it before.

What the icon "check client status" does? It just noticed it on my MacBook Air while I was trying to figure out why my computer is running so slowly? Can I delete it?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just installed last night the 1TB WD Scorpio Blue without a problem in a 2010 MBP 13", but seem to be having some issues now. Im showing the drive is shown w/red text and failing the SMART status in the disk utility. It showed verified when I installed it last night and reinstalled OS X, but now this. I have also been getting some beachballs, but does seem to be running fine now. Is this a sign of just a bad drive, or is it normal for a non-apple drive to fail the smart status check?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm new to Apple Mac so apologize in advance for using incorrect terminology. Since yesterday when I signed on to OkCupid, I'm getting what I believe is Apple's "hourglass" icon (round various colored circle) which I can't get rid of (and can't do anything) until I shut down and restart computer. It's happened today on other sites as well. It takes over my computer. Is this a virus? Does anyone know, and if so, how can I get rid of it?

I think there is a web page to type in your G5 Serial # and get repair info.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy MBP recently had a bunch of problems with the logic board and speakers. I brought it into the Apple Store (on Monday) and they gave me the option of them sending it into a repair center, or them repairing it locally in store. I requested that they sent out just because I was curious to see how long it would take. To my surprise, my MBP arrived, fixed and as good as new on my doorstep today. That's amazingly fast for sending it out to a offsite repair center. The repair center is in Philadelphia. I live in Maine. You do the math. When I've had things repaired locally in the Apple Store it's taken weeks to repair instead of days because they need to order the parts.
Anyways, the point of this thread was to suggest to people that they choose the offsite repair option. It's amazingly fast, and it saved me a trip to the Apple Store (they shipped my MBP directly to my house).
I ran my usual check on the mac drive via "Verify Disk" option. It came up with "needs repair"...etc., and told me to repair it. I did a command r during boot so I could do a repair, and the software told me "your mac drive seems to be ok"??? Some kind of glitch, or need I worry about it at all?

i am a teacher in a school where we have been told that every student must shut down each MacBook or iMac when finished. It is not unusual for 6-8 classes a day to do this. I have said putting the MacBooks to sleep would be better for them. Some of the laptops are taking 5 minutes to restart. Can't find data from Apple to support my concerns.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI went to boot up my MacBook Pro and during the startup it turned itself off. Before I could try to turn it on again, it was rebooting itself and then instantly turned off. This now happens repeatedly, with the boot up sometimes reaching the grey loading screen and sometimes not, but it continuously shuts down and reboots until I hold down the power button for an extended period of time.

I have an anti-virus installed on my mac so I've scanned skype and nothing seems to be infected really desperate now because I use Skype on a daily basis.

I have a late 2007 black macbook that I loved. I didn't use it much for a year but since my other computer is dying, im using the macbook alot more now. I am starting to hate it. The main reason is because I can't listen to any music peacefully. I would go to youtube or a artist's myspace page to check out some of their songs. When I would play the song, it would repeatedly freeze and I would have to pause it for a couple of seconds. Then when I pressed play again it rewinded a couple of seconds. It would work for another ten seconds then freeze again, then play and freeze repeatedly. It is so aggravating. My second complaint is that it takes forever to load a webpage. The beachball would replace the mouse pointer several times. I can't ever go to a webpage without the beachball showing up. I do live on a college campus but it hadn't done that the first couple of weeks when I started using it here. I feel like there is a real problem and I can't peacefully listen or sample any music online or in iTunes. Another thing, I once mistyped [URL] by typing and it brought me to a dark grey screen saying warning! malicious software on this site and has the buttons saying "go back" or "continue". I clicked the back arrow button and pop up brought up saying they needed to resend info again so I cancelled and then x'ed out of safari just to be safe. I hope that malware didn't hit me at all. Let me know about my situations.

Syncing with either iTunes or iBooks is nearly impossible. No disk repair or verification errors. I am thinking that there is some rogue software glitch that has me. I am thinking that I need to do a factory reset followed by a time machine data recovery.

I just purchased a 15" MacBookPro (July 2010). I am not used to laptop keyboards so I was able to purchase a bluetooth Apple Keyboard with the Numeric keys. This bluetooth external keyboard was made by Apple and a local company had these brand new for $60. I was told they were the model that came with iMacs. Apple support told me that they should work fine but did not offer an effective solution. So at any rate about 70% of the time this Bluetooth keyboard works great.
But sometimes when you go to type something it starts repeating whatever key you hit so it you were to type and "a" an example the MacBookPro displays "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa". Sometime just a few of the same character and sometimes it does not stop. I correct this by turning the power switch off on the Apple Bluetooth keyboard and then turn it back on and all is fine, for a while. Sometimes for a week or so then it will do it a lot for a while or just intermittently. The keyboard built into MacBookPro does not do this. I think it may be the Apple Bluetooth keyboard not the MacBookPro or its OS.
I am having an issue installing Snow Leopard on my computer. Every time I start the installation process, the process makes it to the first restart, and then crashes. I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8 and using a early 2008 Macbook. I have tried verifying the disk, but Disk Utility says the disk is fine with no issues. The hard drive was recently replaced so I doubt that their is a problem there...does anyone have any advice on how I should install Snow Leopard?

I took my late 2007 macbook in because the case was cracked. I read that this was a known issue and they would repair for free.(I had no warranty) also my battery was expanding and bloated, so much that it will no longer fit in my comp.
When I took it in, the tech said that my bottom case was cracked and he said that wasn't part of the known issue. He said it was caused by accidental damage (it was cracked clean through, so much so that it could be physically separated from the comp.(I informed him that the comp had never been dropped or damaged in anyway, he apparently didn't believe me but said he would see what he could do.
Anyway, he said he could fix the top case ( but they would not fix the bottom case)and give me a new battery although he had never seen a battery with the problem that mine had. He said it was probably expanded cells. I agreed to that as something is better than nothing but then, I asked him if the battery expanding could have caused the bottom case to crack since it was cracked near the battery compartment but on the side of the comp. After he tinkered around for a bit with the battery and the cracked part, he said he wasn't sure but he would send it in for repairs and I would not be charged.
First he said he would quote me a repair price and I told him that I had no intentions of paying for anything. After several instances of him running to the back to talk to people, he agreed to send it in. On the repair form it is listed as tier 4 accidental damage and I know that the tier 4 comes with a hefty charge for repair. Anyway, I am out of town and my comp is scheduled to be returned to me today. I dropped it off at the apple store on the 30th, it was received by the repair center on the 1st, repaired today( the second) and shipped back to me today and scheduled to be delivered today as well.
I was trying to find out if they actually repaired the bottom case or not as I will not be home to receive my comp until next week sometime. The repair form also said call if additional repairs are needed to quote a price. I have not received any calls at this number and do not know if they left any messages on my home phone. The repair turnaround seems rather quick and I was just wondering if they actually repaired it or sent in back in the same condition.
Apple support has no details of the actual repair just the time it was received, repaired and sent back to me. Also will they just leave it outside because no one is home to receive it?
Every-time I repair permissions using the disk utility it says that the permissions are repaired, but then I click to verify permissions and it is all as it was before... What can I do?

I want my status to appear idle so that it seems ive been away from my computer. Is there an app or something where it will show me as idle on ichat?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI remember about a year ago that people were discovering you couldnt use Bootcamp/Windows7 with a Macbook Pro that was eqipped with the OEM SSD drives.
I was wondering if in the interim Apple has done something to correct the situation or if I should stick with the 5400 drive.
So I had my MacBook Pro charging, and it said it was on 59%. For some reason, it had been stuck at 59% for a while. I highlighted the power readout in the menu bar, and it said 20:00 until full. I unplugged the charging cable and plugged it back in, then it read 89% full and charging.

Before there was a discussion on a couple of apps people had written that show in the status bar whether you're using the Intel HD or Nvidia 330M on an i5/i7 macbook. I now have an i7 MBP but can't find the thread anywhere (tried MRoogle too!).
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo when I bought this the guy said that Apple installed a new battery on it recently. I believe him because when I downloaded the iStat Pro widget it said only 2 or 3 cycles which is because I calibrated the battery. But I just finished charging and the light is green. But it says the charge is only at 97%. I don't see why it should be like this. Also when it's not plugged in the battery only lasts maybe 3 and half hours from just surfing on the internet. But I thought it was supposed to last like 6?(I'm thinking that since mine is an older model, that could be it.
