i was just carrying my MBP in my hand today by my hip and i started hearing some noises when i started walking. It looks like its the back door, if i touch down on it a little, it seems like it moves up and down a little (up meaning up towards the machine when its closed). Are the screws just loose or is this normal.
View 3 RepliesA dad dropped my aluminuim Macbook 13" and the system runs fine, no issues with that, but I noticed the battery door had moved and wedged itself so there were gaps at the edges. I removed the door, and try as I might, I can't get it to line up properly.I'm really upset about this, as I've had it for a year now and really looked after it.I have the three year Apple Care plan, and I'm going to an Apple shop on Saturday about my iPhone anyway- do you think this problem is fixable?
View 20 Replies View RelatedOn random movements or just when putting pressure on it while typing, my 13 MBA makes light cracking noises which I'm sure are coming from the tiny bolts that run all along the sides of the bottom.
I know some have reported to make creaking noises, but mine isn't at that stage... yet.
when I tap the touchpad to click on something, it makes the sound that I am actually pressing on the touchpad to click.
When I inspect the touchpad, I don't noticed any loose gaps or the glass is moving anywhere from side to side or top to bottom.

I have a June 2010 17" 2.66 i7 UMBP. This is going to sound really silly and I do not really know how to describe it correctly, but it has begun to make lots of strange "Tapping/Clicking" noises. It happens quite regularly when the notebook is stationary but increase whenever the notebook is moved.
I am familiar with the hard drive clicking noise but this is totally different - it kind of sounds like a small metal ball-bearing inside a small, thin glass sphere knocking or clicking against it's side or like tapping a small thin glass object with something like a thin metal rod.
I am sorry for the poor description but that is the best way I can describe it & know I must sound like a complete idiot but I am not very savvy to computer issues but I hope someone can identify what these noises are if if they mean that something bad is going on.

Is this something I should be worried about? I thought that SSDs isn't mechanical as a traditional HDD so I reckon the sound must be something else but I cannot pinpoint what it is.

Whenever I wake up my new 15" Pbook, it makes a noise from the CD drive. It doesnt seem to effect it at all, the CD drive works, burns CDs and DVDs.
View 9 Replies View Relatedmy 2011 Mac Mini that I bought back in January is making some strange noises occasionally. High-pitched screeching noises with some clicking. It sounds like it should be the hard drive sounds of doom, but what's odd is that I check the drive using SMARTreporter occasionally, and nothing really changes as far as error statistics, and the drive otherwise works fine. So I'm paranoid, just because I wonder – is it potentially not the hard drive and actually something else entirely? Is this even possible?

My phone calls and it's my (pc-centric) friend Kasper. He's on msn with his girlfriend in Switzerland and she's panicking. She's just accidentally moved her desktop (including everything on it off course) to the trash. She's also trashed Skype (might have been on desktop?!?). And now she can't move it back out again!Unfortunately I'm not the master of Macs that Kasper hopes and I've no idea what to do about this except try to restart. To calm his girlfriend down I've told him to tell her that I'll be back in 30 min. with expert advice from Macrumors... So, what advice should I pass on to him to her?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI moved my Mac HD's private folder to the trash not knowing that it stores thousands of crucial UNIX folders (one of which that stores the admin password). I haven't yet trashed it, but I can't move it back to its original location because when I try to do that Leopard asks for the admin password but the password doesn't exist anymore because it's been moved to the trash. Is there anyway I can remove the private folder from the Trash and put it back? Maybe some kind of Terminal command?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI moved my documents folder to my desktop and it disappeared and then i found another folder for my documents and moved it to my dock. And then a icon for my documents ended up on my desktop. When I delete the documents folder on my desktop the format for all my .rar files change to .vlc format. And if I keep the documents on my desktop the files are alright and I'm still able to use it. I tried changing the type of format but it still doesn't work. Does anyone know what I can do to delete the documents folder off of my desktop and keep the format the same??

I don't dare do anything until I get some proper advice. Can I just drag it back to my home folder and clear the trash?

Have read many threads to drag it to desktop, applications etc but am afraid to do this. should I just re-install the program as I have the disk? but my main concern: if I reinstall, will I lose existing files of Word, Excel, PP? I see them now converted to I-Works, will they remain? BTW - I have not backed up on time machine in over 2 months!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem getting my CD drive door to open (the CD drive was empty when the problem started). Have tried pushing and holding down keyboard eject key, holding down mouse key while restarting, and typing "eject cd" in open format. When I do these things, the drive repeatedly makes a sort of "grunt" (effort noise) but doesn't pop open, so this appears to be a mechanical problem. I removed the drive faceplate and was finally able to open the drive by pushing the manual eject button and pulling on the tray, though it requires some finagling and doesn't always work. When the tray does open this way, it does not automatically roll all the way out or back in, but has to be pulled/pushed, and once it shuts, it once more can't open without manual intervention. However, I discovered that as long as there's a CD in the tray, it opens and closes fine. While always keeping a CD in the drive is a temporary fix.

t seems that the screw in the memory access door is stripped, and I can't open it to install more RAM. Has anyone else had this problem? The screw just turns and turns and never comes out. I've never opened it before, and I'm the first and only owner of this iMac.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI tried everything. All of the screwdrivers in my house, with no force and with full force. The damned screw wont move at all. I've had this iMac since 2008 and I just feel like adding more RAM, as the 1GB is kind of well, small.
This is a case where that extra few millimeters in tray position meant the drive was physically incompatible with the Mac Pro. Before I go shopping for a new drive, I'd like to find out if you guys have recommended brand/models that you KNOW fits into your Mac Pros (because you installed it and it works, duh).
View 17 Replies View RelatedFirst the problem started when the mac would go to sleep I couldnt wake it up. The monitor light would just blink green and the screen would be black. Also programs started just randomly crashing, for no reason. Mainly Firefox (tired Safari, same thing.) Now the computer will not boot. Meaning I start it, it chimes, i get the grey loading screen the little wheel spins for mabye 15 sec, then the screen goes black and the monitor light flashes green. HOWEVER, I can hear the computer continue to load, and if i move the mouse around and click I can hear things being accessed.

so I have done the PRAM thing, I took out all the ram, and reseated it, and I moved the video card to different slots, I also tested the other 2 connection on the card, still with the same result... the s- vid didnt even pull a signal.
My much loved G4, dual 1GHZ processor, mirrored door model, finally died. I bought a second hand G4 with the model spec just below this one - the 867 MHz processor - as I wanted to go on using my cinema display monitor with ADC connector. Newer MACs won't run this monitor without a special adaptor box (which costs more than buying a second hand G4!) The G4 I bought doesn't have a DVD-RW drive, just a CD drive. I had a DVD-RW drive on my own old machine. I was wondering - is it easy to take this drive out of my machine and put it in the one I bought? Or does the lower spec make this a problem?
The guy I bought the G4 from had looked after it well, added a second large hard drive, and updated to Leopard. I had still been using Panther on my own G4, as I still needed to use Classic for some software and games. So, second query is - can I easily reinstall the OS on the MAC I bought to go back to using Panther? Or is there a way to run both operating systems, leaving Leopard as it is - very useful to have for some new applications - and installing the Panther OS on the other hard disc? Ideally, I would like to have both available, but if not possible, then Panther use would take priority. I have the Panther install discs, but the G4 I bought did not come with Leopard install discs.
I am having problems with a G4 mirror door that keeps coming up with a question mark. I have tried replacing the battery, and doing multiple pram resets. It will still start up to external drives, if I hold down the option key. I have tried booting from an external and setting the startup disk. This seems to work after it restarts, but if the computer is off for more than two minutes, it won't start up again (even if it stays plugged in). It will just go back to the question mark folder at boot?

Second my fans "boostA & boostB" are spinning at 1100rpm at idle I thought they should normally idle at around 800rpm? (I read at least)
My trackpad is making these weird noises. The light click you hear happens when I lightly tap the trackpad. You can also hear it compared to the normal trackpad click sound. I recorded it last night on my macbook pro.

My fans are running at about 3700 rpms and my cpu temp is around 60 C. Is this problem definitely one of the fans? My computer sounds like it wants to explode. I've attached a sound file of it.
