when I tap the touchpad to click on something, it makes the sound that I am actually pressing on the touchpad to click.
When I inspect the touchpad, I don't noticed any loose gaps or the glass is moving anywhere from side to side or top to bottom.
I'm having this problem with my touchpad, which is really hard to explain in words, so I made this quick vid with my iPhone: As you can see, my touchpad "clicks" before I actually click. It makes the sound twice before the computer registers a click. My warranty has expired.

I know some have reported to make creaking noises, but mine isn't at that stage... yet.
This might be a little hard to explain, but will be easier if you have an MBP to do this exercise. My touchpad/trackpad, is fine, except for that when tapped in the lower left quadrant (where you normally click) it makes a click noise (from the pad itself) tapping anywhere else yields no sound. I pushed hard on the pad, and kinda pressured it in every which way, and every time I do, the clicking stops for about a minute or so.

i was just carrying my MBP in my hand today by my hip and i started hearing some noises when i started walking. It looks like its the back door, if i touch down on it a little, it seems like it moves up and down a little (up meaning up towards the machine when its closed). Are the screws just loose or is this normal.

Today at school i was picking up my computer and i tilted it and it made a weird noise. My friends say it might be the hard drive. should i open the computer myself and check it out? take it in to the apple store?
Also, i accidentally dropped it on the lower right hand corner and it made a small dent on the corner of the screen and the base of the laptop.

Whenever I wake up my new 15" Pbook, it makes a noise from the CD drive. It doesnt seem to effect it at all, the CD drive works, burns CDs and DVDs.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy 100G space came up as full last night so I freed up about 15g. space, but now today I notice it is going way slow, taking forever to open or show data in files - eg if I click on the master application folder - the names of indiv. folders show but file content on right doesn't come up until about 30 secs, and the computer itself is making all sorts of whirring/clicking type sounds which i called "thinking" but it's as if the memory is still full and is operating at half it's speed.Â

- When I clean the screen with the included cloth or any cleaning cloth, the screen makes a clicking noise. As if it's like not flushed against the bezel. This only happens on the left part of the screen from, top to bottom. If I wipe in the center, no problem at all. I was wondering if anyone of you is experiencing the same problem? Btw, I also have the lines, but its very faint and I don't notice it as much as the my 3rd replacement Air, which I exchanged for this one. The Apple Store said that if I had any more line problems with this one, they won't replace it anymore and they would just try and replace the screen. I don't know if my problem is a common one and worth it to send my computer out to get its screen replaced, and who knows, maybe the replacement screen might have the lines and that's why I'm worried about getting the screen replaced, in addition to being out of my laptop for a couple of days.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy problem with my brand-new (three day old) MacBook is not a "creaky" hinge (a problem already posted at [URL]); rather, when the computer has time to warm up, the hinge makes a one-time "CLICK" upon opening the lid (the sound comes from the right corner). This is really annoying me, and I'm worried that the repeated click (which signals something rubbing against something else) will wear down the joints and ruin my computer prematurely.
[Side note: The click is especially loud and offensive when the MacBook is warmed up after half an hour or so; when it's cold and shut down, the click is much quieter. This makes me think that the plastic parts are swelling and expanding a little when the computer is power on. I'm not too comfortable with the idea of the joints wearing down due to normal use. I want this computer to last me 3 years at least!]

This ends up opening random programs and is generally annoying. Clicking also sometimes "deselects" and grays out the current window, which is generally odd.This typically happens when I'm working quickly or clicking the button hard, so I'm not sure if maybe there's a trackpad setting I don't understand or I'm inadvertantly making a multitouch gesture to select the dock? (Is that even possible?) Am interested to find out if this is something I'm doing wrong or if this is an actual trackpad issue.

my 2011 Mac Mini that I bought back in January is making some strange noises occasionally. High-pitched screeching noises with some clicking. It sounds like it should be the hard drive sounds of doom, but what's odd is that I check the drive using SMARTreporter occasionally, and nothing really changes as far as error statistics, and the drive otherwise works fine. So I'm paranoid, just because I wonder – is it potentially not the hard drive and actually something else entirely? Is this even possible?

My 17" Macbook Pro was purchased on Feb 24th 2009 via telesales, so it's less than 6 months old. The hinge is very creaky and on the right hand side it makes a loud clicking noise when I open and close it, also the whole screen seems to creak, not just the hinge. The wall charger is in my opinion very loose, it was loose when I got it ( should have changed it then ), but I haven't really moved it that much ( maybe 10 times in the space of 5 months and this is also becoming a concern. I contacted Apple today and they told me I have 1 year of telephone support and 3 years parts and labour as I order though Higher Education.
They told me that I can go to a Apple store or authorized repair centre to have it looked at, but all the stores are 2 hours away. I asked about mail-in repairs and he said that could be set up but they would prefer if I went to a store. The question is, should I send it in and hope they take care of my Mac i.e don't scratch or mark it etc. After reading some stories about repairs, I'm a little concerned about it, and don't like anyone to touch my Laptop. Obviously I would prefer a replacement as I have work to do and I don't want to be without my Mac.
Well my Macbook Pro makes a loud "sticky" sorta noise when I click on the edges of it, and you can really hear it when i click outside the trackpad on the actual frame. Its quite annoying, and I just bought the new 13" Macbook Pro and this does not make this noise. [URL]

I just purchased a 250gig hdd which fits perfectly in my Macbook, but, now I have another issue that's been pressing me for some time that didn't bother me at all until now when I need to install Snow Leopard;
My Super Drive isn't reading discs at all, and, it's making this scary crackling noise. I uploaded a video on youtube of me putting 2 discs in it, 1 with content (World of Warcraft: The Frozen Throne) and the other without content (Just a blank CD).

So I've got my mothers aluminium 12" Powerbook here because there were some troubles with it, it was freezing, made strange clicking noises on the left side (like 20 times every time she tried to restart) and eventually wouldn't start up anymore. So I guess there must be something wrong with the harddrive .
What is the best strategy to try to save as much data as possible? I have the original OS X 10.3.4 installation disks, I have an external hard drive to write the users data folder to. Do I just slide in the install disk while starting up (I mean I can't slide in the disk while it's off can I?) and will I be able to attach the external drive in order to copy the files?
I have a Unibody Macbook, and recently it has been very slow. But not with processes as much has hard drive related actions such as playing back saved video, loading files in the finder, especially applications, and its been temporarily freezing lately for like 10 seconds. I have also noticed unusually loud clicking noises from the hard drive, which i am pretty sure screams imminent hard drive failure. Do this sound , does 4 gigs of ram make a noticeable difference over 2?

this is my issue: Few days ago it just stopped mounting, I had to force reboot my computer and it hasnt come up sense.
Odd things: Disk Utilities reads that there is a drive connected, but wont mount nor give the options to mount and says that the total capacity=0 bytes [when connected by Firewire 400] when i connect it with USB2 to USB [the square USB to regular USB] it comes up the same but with total capacity = 2TB
STARTING UP: when the WD started up, or powers on, it turns on, the light goes around the ring as usual then it dims down and slowly illuminates the entire ring up and just stays all lit.
NOISES: It makes these odd [sort of soft] clicking noises when starting up,.. not sure if its done that all the time or if it just started,..
COMPUTER START UP: i have tried having it start up by powering everything down [computer and WD] and starting up the computer so the computer starts up the WD, which it does, but then it locks up my computer,..
Disk Utilities [DU]: shows the nice little yellow external WD drive icon on the left panel with the name WD [NOTE: it does not show the double icon, WD and then a sub icon with the drive name] and it wont eject the WD icon, even if the drive is no longer connected, it locks up DU and then if i try to force quit it locks up the mac.
It does give me the option to Partition/Erase and all the rest, but this is my main drive and i am a video editor,.. sort of NEED the files on the drive,.. so i am not all about erasing my data and loosing all my work.
NOTE: the Drive was never formatted, i know i was stupid not to do that,.. but we can move on from that, its in that FAT format, never partitioned or anything.
I have tried hooking it up to a PC running vista, it installed all the "New Software bs" and then never mounted or anything,.. [that was only with the USB, my pc doesnt have a firewire connection]
I have two newer WD 500G drives as well [the ones with the white bar light in the front] and they both come up fine. but if i try to link them up through the older one nothing happens [they dont mount]
what can i do to get the data off the drive? can i reformat the drive and still recover the data? If i throw it at the wall and bust it up,.. is the data still good?Was that too much details?
Recently, as in since a week or two ago, when I right-click, about 10% of the time the computer will think that I right-clicked twice and so the context menu disappears when I try to activate it (because if you click when the context menu is already opened, then it will disappear).I imagine that this must be caused by a recent OS X update somehow.Â

Why is my "new" macbook pro making weird clicking noises? Is it just the fan cooling off? Am I using it too much? Is the hard drive gonna fail on me? The reason why I say "new" is because I got it from bestbuy and it was last model's sample computer. They told me, however, it would be just like new, because they restored it and it has never left the store.It works great. Except for this weird ticking noises coming from it. I looked online and apple tech support keeps saying that ticking noises is a sign of the hard drive failing. I DON'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN since everything is connected to the hard drive, and, thus, my new computer would die. I just got this computer. It shouldn't break on me like this. Â
