OS X :: Moved My Documents Folder To My Desktop - How Can I Move It Back?

Oct 18, 2010

I moved my documents folder to my desktop and it disappeared and then i found another folder for my documents and moved it to my dock. And then a icon for my documents ended up on my desktop. When I delete the documents folder on my desktop the format for all my .rar files change to .vlc format. And if I keep the documents on my desktop the files are alright and I'm still able to use it. I tried changing the type of format but it still doesn't work. Does anyone know what I can do to delete the documents folder off of my desktop and keep the format the same??

OS X :: Moved Private Folder - How Can I Move It Back?

Feb 7, 2010

I moved my Mac HD's private folder to the trash not knowing that it stores thousands of crucial UNIX folders (one of which that stores the admin password). I haven't yet trashed it, but I can't move it back to its original location because when I try to do that Leopard asks for the admin password but the password doesn't exist anymore because it's been moved to the trash. Is there anyway I can remove the private folder from the Trash and put it back? Maybe some kind of Terminal command?

OS X :: Accidentally Moved Desktop Into Trash - How Can I Move Back?

Jan 25, 2008

I somehow managed to do something really silly, I don't know how exactly I did it, but I had moved my desktop to the trash. So now it's sitting there in the trash. I don't dare do anything until I get some proper advice. Can I just drag it back to my home folder and clear the trash?

OS X :: Getting Back Deleted My Documents Folder From Desktop?

Jan 30, 2009

I didn't put the my documents folder in the trash can and empty the trash. I accidentally took it off the dock, so I went into Macintosh HD in order to put it back on the dock. I went under the "my places" tab and clicked and dragged the my documents tab, but I accidentally let go of the icon before it got to the dock and it disappeared. It was showing the little crumbled up piece of paper icon before it disappeared. So I don't know how to get the my documents folder back. It isn't anywhere on my desktop and it isn't in the Macintosh HD under the "my places" tab. I also don't know how to access the documents that were in there.

OS X :: Desktop In Trash Refuse To Be Moved Back Out?

Nov 12, 2005

My phone calls and it's my (pc-centric) friend Kasper. He's on msn with his girlfriend in Switzerland and she's panicking. She's just accidentally moved her desktop (including everything on it off course) to the trash. She's also trashed Skype (might have been on desktop?!?). And now she can't move it back out again!Unfortunately I'm not the master of Macs that Kasper hopes and I've no idea what to do about this except try to restart. To calm his girlfriend down I've told him to tell her that I'll be back in 30 min. with expert advice from Macrumors... So, what advice should I pass on to him to her?

OS X :: Trying To Move Documents Folder Via Symbolic Link / Not Working

Sep 16, 2010

I've just recently received my new iMac 27" i7 and have the SSD + HDD option, where the SSD contains OS + Applications and the HDD contains data. I read that moving the whole Home folder was not a good idea, therefore, I wanted to just move my Documents, Pictures and Download folder to the second internal HDD. I read an article/tutorial how to do this and this is what I followed (using Terminals):

Code:
cp -Rp ~/Documents /Volumes/Macintosh Data HD
chmod -R -N ~/Documents
rm -rf ~/Documents
ln -s /Volumes/Macintosh Data HD/Documents ~/Documents
However, when I try and type the symbolic link I get the error:

Code:
"ln: Documents: No such file or directory"
Because of this, the Documents folder on the Dock appears with a big question mark as it cannot locate the new Documents folder.

Any ideas how I can get the link working or if not try and restore the original documents folder and just move the entire Home folder over to the Hard Disk data drive?

(note: I don't have any documents in the folders as of yet so I haven't lost any important info!)

Applications :: Move "My Kindle Content" Folder From Documents Folder?

Jan 9, 2011

I recently downloaded Amazon's Kindle for my Mac and it automatically installed a content folder in my Documents folder along with my other folders. Now, I like to keep my Documents folder neatly organized and this My Kindle Content folder kind of messes things up a bit - I really don't like seeing this folder in my Documents folder. question: Does anyone know how to move this folder to another location? I've tried to browse the Kindle app, but I haven't found any obvious way to move it. However, I may have overlooked it. Also, I have tried to browse the Forums to see if someone else asked this question already - no luck yet. Has anyone out there had the same problem? If so, is there a way to move the My Kindle Content folder without messing things up?

Intel Mac :: Accidentally Moved Ms Office For 2011 To Trash, Get It Back?

Mar 4, 2012

I accidentally moved MS office 2011 to trash and cannot get it back... "put back" option is not in bold.  Have read many threads to drag it to desktop, applications etc but am afraid to do this.  should I just re-install the program as I have the disk?  but my main concern: if I reinstall, will I lose existing files of Word, Excel, PP?  I see them now converted to I-Works, will they remain? BTW - I have not backed up on time machine in over 2 months!

MacBook Pro :: Pictures Folder Deleted / Moved From Favorites Sidebar In Finder

Nov 30, 2014

I accidentally moved "My Pictures" folder from the My Favorites sidebar in Finder, and I can no longer find the folder. I've searched "all my files" for a My Pictures folder and nothing has come up, not even in the trash (that I haven't yet emptied). I am wondering if there is anyway of getting this folder back, as I had several pictures and folders organized within that My Pictures folder. All of my pictures are somewhere still on my computer but even they are hard to locate now without them being in any folder. Would be difficult to have to re-organize every single thing that was in that folder.
