MacBook Pro :: Flash Causing Safari To Crash?
Jul 6, 2010
It happens about once a day now with Safari. Sometimes it causes my MBP to crash. I know all the controversy about Apple and Flash, but is it this common? I do have the latest versions of Flash and Safari, but is the problem this ubiquitous or is there probably something I'm doing wrong with my 1 year old 13" MBP (4 GB RAM, 2.26 Ghz, 250GB)

My year old MBP is at the stage where it starts to slow down [most of the time in Safari/Firefox], the beachball appears [and doesn't go away], and then I have to forcefully restart the computer (no other apps will work after this). Only things I do/downloaded for my MBP are internet, MS office, Skype, and the apps that came with the MBP. So if Flash is causing the problems, what can I do? Reinstall it? I've never seen two browsers crash consistently, I would imagine it has to be Flash. Thoughts [as to what it could be if it isn't Flash]?

I have been suffering with this issue for a few weeks now. Any flash snippet on a page causing Safari to crash. I had tried everything to fix the issue. Reinstalling flash player, rolling back to flash player 9, changing my DNS servers, Removing all internet plugins, Firefox, running Safari in 32 bit mode, Terminal hacks...all to no avail. I recently was playing around with my desktop and changed the Name of my Mac HD. I then quit and reopened Safari and to my amazement this had solved the issue. Safari now running faster than ever before. Im not sure how exavtly it solves the issue but it sure worked for me.

Recently I purchased 8GB of G Skill ram from newegg for $90. After installing it in my computer, i thought everything was working fine until I noticed apps crashing more frequently. Is it possible that the ram is causing this to happen? Also, my computer kernel panicked once since installation.

I have had a lot of issues with Adobe Flash Player causing grief in Safari, and now it is causing it to crash. I am on a clean installation of OS X (just formatted and reinstalled yesterday).
I should point out that I use Adobe CS4 and have Flash CS4 installed. Maybe that is causing a conflict?

When I watch a flash video on my MacBook it causes Firefox (and Safari) to crash probably 70% of the time.
I noticed today that it started right when I upgraded my hard drive to a 320gb Samsung model in January. What made me notice that is because I am taking the MacBook to get its case fixed tomorrow so I put the original hard drive back in. Ever since the original hard drive has been reinserted flash videos have played with no problems.
Can a hard drive cause a problem like this?
btw I have 4gb of memory so I should have plenty of resources.

I've been having a problem with Firefox crashing recently. On Mozilla's forum, someone suggested that corrupted fonts can cause apps to crash. I opened Font Book to check on this. I was able to find and disable one font that Font Book listed as corrupted. However, there's another font that I think is corrupted but can't do anything about. Just clicking on the font in the Font Book window causes Font Book itself to crash! Is there any other way to disable this font (matura management capitals)? Can I just delete it from the Font folder in finder?

I had Mavericks previously installed on my iMac mid 2007 and was promoted to upgrade to Yosemite which I did. Now when I try to open iPhoto and it reads unresponsive in red letters on the force quit window. When I select and click force quit computer then freezes. I am however able to open iTunes but when I plug my iPod in computer then freezes.

My dad has a new 27" Core i5 iMac. When he plays a very long slideshow, iPhoto consistently crashes around the 8-minute mark. Sometimes he gets an error message saying "iPhoto unexpectedly quit" and sometimes the slides just quit coming up, even though the music keeps playing.
It doesn't matter from which event the slides come, although it seems to happen on his pics only and not on the pre-installed pics from Apple.
One last data point, this never happens, even when viewing the same slideshow, on his 13" MacBook Pro, which he bought at the same time.
It seems to me like a memory leak, or, less likely, some kind of GPU overheating issue. He's tried rebuilding his photo library, which changed nothing.

Every time I navigate to a page that has Flash elements into it (e.g. YouTube), Safari hangs and my computer beach balls. I can't view any pages with Flash elements in them (or at least pages that have multiple Flash elements) without Safari freezing and causing me to kill Safari through Force Quit.
To try to fix this problem, I reset Safari (resetting every available option), repaired permissions, restarted, and nothing worked. Then I used the Flash uninstaller from Adobe's website to uninstall Flash, then reinstall a fresh copy which did not work.
I reinstalled Snow Leopard, updated all of my system's software, and then tried to view [URL] and the same problem still occurred.
Now I originally thought that the Safari 4.0.4 update caused the problem. However - after I reinstalled Snow Leopard and updated to 10.6.2, I downloaded to Camino to see if YouTube would work, but to my surprise it didn't. The same exact problem I'm having with Safari (entire browser freezing when viewing a page with Flash such as YouTube) is also happening with a 3rd-party browser (Camino).
This leads me to believe that 10.6.2 may be the source of the problem (as I never had this problem with 10.6.1), not the 4.0.4. I cannot go on websites with Flash elements in them, even with a 3rd-party browser.

A recent problem in the last few days...every time I open my web browser my machine is slowing down tremendously and I eventually get this message:
"A script in this movie is causing Flash Player 9 to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?"
I'm using a Macbook Pro, Safari Version 4.0.3 (4531.9), and OS X v. 10.4.11.

I seem to have had this problem before several month ago. Well I updated to a new version of Firefox (3.6.13) and I have Flash 10.1 installed (MacOS 10.6.5). Every time I open any web site with Flash content, Firefox crashes. This happens with Yahoo Mail, CNN, New York Times, etc. So I disabled Flash temporarily, and my Yahoo Mail no longer crashed. Of course I can't watch any online videos now.
I tried uninstalling Flash 10.1 and re-installing it. No go. I tried the beta 10.2. still crashed. Finally I found a version of Flash 9 for Mac on Adobe's web site, and that does indeed work. Of course it's an older version, but at least I can use Firefox. The bad news is that the plugin is used by Safari also.

Safari recently started crashing when I tried to go onto Facebook and Yahoo.
I uninstalled the flash player and the problem has stopped but now I can't get the flash applications (Videos).
I have reinstalled flash player 10 and 9 and the page crashed every time after the reinstall. I have also tried with Safari, Firefox and Opera with the same outcome.
I would love some help to fix the problem and allow me to surf the web with all the flash applications.

Version: 5.1.2 (6534.52.7)

It started about a week ago. I dunno if it's a problem with Flash or what. But any time I try to open a video on sites such as gizmodo, engadget, youtube, or full episodes from like [URL]. whichever browser I attempt to open it with just completely crashes. This has been getting worse and worse and now it literally happens 100% of the time.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both browsers multiple times to no avail. I am REALLY dreading reinstalling my entire OS. Is there a way I can completely eliminate flash from my computer? Then I can manually download it from Adobe directly and see if that works.

I'm trying to read news sites and my eye is distracted by things bouncing around in adverts. It's even worse when they're playing obnoxious sounds until you click the mute button in them. Therefore I just thought I'd let people know about this wonderful piece of software. I've seen it mentioned a few times here but even if this thread only helps a few people I think it'll be worth it:[URL]Not only does it hide these horrific insults to humanity (ok a bit strong perhaps), it actually prevents them loading, therefore your pages load quicker! And it's completely unobtrusive! If you want to watch flash file, simply click on in.

I'm a new to the mac world, having recently got a new 15" MBP with the Core i5 Processor.I've found some very strange behaviour that I'm trying to get to the bottom of, if anyone can help? When I have a torrent client running (utorrent or transmission), I get frequent HTTP timeouts in firefox and Safari. This happens regardless of whether the torrent client is actually transferring data. When I click on a link, in firefox I can see "connecting to www.google.com" for a long time - sometimes the link loads, sometimes it just times out. This happens 80%+ of the time.

However Safari is causing all kinds of hangs restarts kernal panics overheating with my machine and yet if I use google chrome for the exact same web sites these same problems are not present. I much prefer to be able to keep using safari and I realise that I haev not got the most up to date software since Lion is not supported on my machine but it is as up todate as snow leaopard allows.Â
I also realize that a more than 5 year old machine is doing very well especially since it is rarely off. It has outlasted 2 timecapsules and countless airport express but the anomyly between 2 browsers is weird. I doubt this has a solution but maybe the odd apple tech who read this might find it a challenge to know why one browser causes heart issues but another doesn't.

Lately, every time I open Safari the computer heats up and the fan blows continuously. This doesn't happen for Chrome, so I've had to use Chrome exclusively lately.Â
In Activity Monitor, Safari Networking has an energy impact of 100 and Average Energy Impact of 77, which Safari has an Average Energy Impact of 162. Chrome is at 11.

Today Safari started to crash when I go to http://legendas.tv/ I tried to reset Safari, even restarted my computer, but it happens again. I've tested a few other sites, but only this one gets me the problem. The Problem Report says Flash Player Plug-In could have caused the problem.

Got a hairy one here that I've been working around for ages.....perhaps someone has a real fix for me. If I try to print (or save as a PDF) from a particular web site with THEIR Java "print" button on the web page, Safari crashes. Upon restart of Safari all is well. It stays ok until I re boot/restart the computer. Then the same thing happens. After the first crash of Safari everthing is a-ok. The print function from the Safari menu does NOT crash - it works all the time. sam P.S. Intel box with Safari 4.0.4 and OS X 10.6.2.
