I have a MacBook Pro runing 10.6.8. I have a small network in my house. I cannot see my windows computers with my MacBook Pro. The windows computers can see my MacBook Pro. What settings are needed for me to view the windows on my macBook Pro? Is there any thing I need to do to the windows computers?

For the past few months I've been using my mid-2007 MacBook (running Snow Leopard) with a Samsung external TV/monitor (with the MacBook's lid closed). I had no problems whatsoever in terms of internet connection to my D-Link DIR-655 router. Yesterday for the first time since creating this setup, I took the MacBook with me somewhere. When I returned the MacBook to my network (closed lid, plugged my monitor back in), I started having WiFi trouble. The WiFi was initially running very slowly and then not at all. The WiFi icon on the menu bar was showing regular strength, however.
The complicating factor here is that when my MacBook is on, all other computers on the network show getting WiFi signals but the connection isn't working for them either. When I turned off my MacBook and powered down/up the modem and router, other computers could connect successfully. (But when I turned my MacBook on, the computers lost connectivity to the internet. I've already played with the router's channels without success. I also made sure there weren't any unnecessary items in my Mac's DNS listing.
Im trying to get on the pc here on my home network I cant seem to find it and my pc cant find me??? I have my office set up that works fine, but at home no luck... I dont remember how I set my mac up to see the office pc's but i dont think it was this much of a pain
View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen I open finder and click network, I don't see my respective other Mac. The iMac doesn't show the Powerbook there, and the Powerbook doesn't show the iMac. Both machines list my XP machine though. I can go to "go connect to server" under finder and enter computer name or IP address, and it does connect to the other Mac. However, why isn't it just showing up under network? Yes, I do have file sharing on.

I am trying to share two computers together in a private network.
I have an iMac running OS X Lion & a Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard. The iMac's name on the network is: Studio The Macbook Pro's name on the network is: djlaptop I turn on file sharing, assign a name and they connect through wi-fi. In the Macbook Pro's Finder (djlaptop) the devices list shows this:
And on the Imac (Studio) it shows this:
I can't seem to get the 'Macintosh HD' of the Macbook Pro to show up on the Imac's finder (running lion). The 'DJ' is the home folder.
Does anyone have any more knowledge on how to get it to show up? I have checked my Finder Sidebar items and all of them are ticked. I want to mount the whole Macintosh HD and not just the home folder.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI recently updated my Macbook to leopard and for the most part everything is working Ok. However I have to share files with a network with windows computers. I never had a problem with Tiger, My Home folder would be shared and as long as you typed in the password access to it was fine. What I liked was my Home folder was the only folder you could access.
Now with Leopard, my home folder is shared, however so is my whole HDD, even if i had a usb drive plugged in at the time, that is shared too. Can I change this to so only my home folder is shared, like it was with Tiger. I have tried playing with the firewall and other sharing setting but cannot work it out.
I've got a Mac mini connected to my network through wireless. The Vista computers in the house can only see the "Printers" folder on the mini. The mini can get all the files on the Windows machines. I've also got a Power Mac G4 connected to the mini and it can see all the files on the mini. This has been happening for months!

I recently installed Windows vista using going through parallels because my bootcamp failed a while ago. This partition also acts as my bootcamp. Well The internet on parallels works fine because it is using osx network, but when i boot into bootcamp the network drivers seem to be missing. I cant figure it out, but it says the ethernet and network drivers are not there. I cant find the drivers on the internet anywhere and when i use the vista disk i have it still does not want to install them.

I connected to it through system pref > print/fax > selected my printer. It connected and works sweet, but, the driver must be wrong. I was not sure what the driver was so I just chose GenericPostScript but when I print, a blank sheet comes out, no text. The PC's print just fine, but not my MacBook. It is a DELL printer connected to my dell PC, so I am not sure what driver to use. All I know is it is a Dell AIO 926.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just ordered a Mac for work, which I'll be adding to a PC-based network all running under Windows Small Business Server. I know I can add the Mac ok, but I just wondered what will happen when I then add Parallels. If the Mac is properly set up and attached to a domain, will the "Virtual Windows" machine by definition be part of the same network and work ok, or is it better to think of the virtual machine as a completely new entity in the network?
Perhaps it'll all become blindingly obvious when I start, but I just wondered if there was anything I need to know so I go into this with my admittedly non-techie eyes open!

I can't seem to figure out how to get my Macbook Pro to see my Windows PCs on my network. All of my computers are in the same workgroup (WORKGROUP) and both of my Windows computers (Vista and Windows 7) can see my MBP and they can both connect to it/access files/etc. I just can't seem to get my MBP to see the Windows PCs. They don't show up under Shared in the finder. However, I can connect to both Windows PCs from the MBP by using Finder to 'connect to server' through SMB://. Any idea on what I'm doing wrong?

I want to network with my old Laptop PC to be able to see some files that I plan on keeping there. My question is this: Is it easier to set up a home network with Vista or XP?
I have Vista on my PC right now(and I've tried a few online guides to view my files but I can't get it to work) but I also have a copy of XP. I was thinking of wiping my hard drive on the PC and installing XP instead.
I've been struggling all week trying to share a drive out from a mac and mount it remotely onto a windows 7 machine. Also I haven't been able to see any of my macs in the network in windows explorer on the windows 7 machine.
I found this somewhere else on the web so can't take the credit, but it works for me and I can see my whole network, macs, windows and shared folders from either, all on windows 7 now.
