OS X V10.7 Lion :: Share Two Computers Together In A Private Network?
Mar 17, 2012
I am trying to share two computers together in a private network.Â
I have an iMac running OS X Lion & a Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard. The iMac's name on the network is: Studio The Macbook Pro's name on the network is: djlaptop I turn on file sharing, assign a name and they connect through wi-fi. In the Macbook Pro's Finder (djlaptop) the devices list shows this: Â
And on the Imac (Studio) it shows this:Â
I can't seem to get the 'Macintosh HD' of the Macbook Pro to show up on the Imac's finder (running lion). The 'DJ' is the home folder.Â
Does anyone have any more knowledge on how to get it to show up? I have checked my Finder Sidebar items and all of them are ticked. I want to mount the whole Macintosh HD and not just the home folder.Â

Mac OS X (10.6.7)

I have two macs on the same network. I have an external HDD attached to Mac "a" being used as TM. I want to be able share that TM so Mac "b" can back up to it as well over a wireless network. Both Macs running the same Lion. Â
I have had a good look around but haven't found anything of any real use. To recap. Two Macs, one Time Machine, how the Duce?Â

ANy suggestions for the best way to share Dcouments (Word, PDF and XL) on a home network with Macs. We have iCloud but do not want to put some of our docs on there for concern over security (any informed pushback on that welcome by the way). We also use an iPad and iPhone so if possible good to be able t acces through those platform while relising that Office docs will need to be converted with limitations.

I have three apple computers at home, my desktop (iMac-27), my wife's desktop (iMac-20), and my Mac Mini.Â
I have a Macbook Pro.Â
In finder, I only see the two iMacs. The MacMini does not appear, but I do recall that it appeared on my MBP previously.Â

My wife and I each have our own devices. I would like to purchase an album and have it on both accounts so we do not have to buy the same album twice just because we both like it. I have seen many articles on how to achieve this on a single computer but nothing that talks about multiple computers and multiple accounts. Â

I have Alltel Mobile Broadband. Up until the other day, it's been working fine. I'd set up a network on my macbook after connecting to the Alltel network, then I'd enable internet sharing. Then my iPod Touch, iPad, etc would all be able to go online.
The past couple days, however, the connection just won't share.Anyone have any idea what could be doing this and how to fix it?

The goal: To have all computers in the house use the same itunes library. Now the new ReadyNAS by NetGear has the option to put all the itunes music on there, and it shows up on the network as a shared library. Is there a way for multiple computers to share the same library on a external hard drive, or in this case, time capsule. I can see where a networked itunes library (like a shared computer) would work just fine for playing music, but you run into problems when say, you want to transfer songs to a ipod, iphone, etc.
One option would be for one of the computers be the main music server, and have that computer be the one to do the music transfers, but what if that computer is off. Multiple computers on same network, sharing same itunes library, but still able to manipulate the files?

When I open finder and click network, I don't see my respective other Mac. The iMac doesn't show the Powerbook there, and the Powerbook doesn't show the iMac. Both machines list my XP machine though. I can go to "go connect to server" under finder and enter computer name or IP address, and it does connect to the other Mac. However, why isn't it just showing up under network? Yes, I do have file sharing on.

For the past few months I've been using my mid-2007 MacBook (running Snow Leopard) with a Samsung external TV/monitor (with the MacBook's lid closed). I had no problems whatsoever in terms of internet connection to my D-Link DIR-655 router. Yesterday for the first time since creating this setup, I took the MacBook with me somewhere. When I returned the MacBook to my network (closed lid, plugged my monitor back in), I started having WiFi trouble. The WiFi was initially running very slowly and then not at all. The WiFi icon on the menu bar was showing regular strength, however.
The complicating factor here is that when my MacBook is on, all other computers on the network show getting WiFi signals but the connection isn't working for them either. When I turned off my MacBook and powered down/up the modem and router, other computers could connect successfully. (But when I turned my MacBook on, the computers lost connectivity to the internet. I've already played with the router's channels without success. I also made sure there weren't any unnecessary items in my Mac's DNS listing.

This is probably very basic but I don't know how to do it.I have an iMac (2007) running Leopard. I have an iBook (2004) running Tiger. They both share my home wireless network.
How can I best share documents between them? Eg how can I browse the hard drive of each machine from the other- ideally without entering passwords etc every time?
Additionally, the iMac is connected to the printer (because it is also a scanner); can the iBook share the printer too?

I have 3 computers at home: pc, IMac and Macbook air. The IMac has 2 external drives attached: one by FW800, formated as HFS+, and another by usb, formatted as NTFS. This was the usb drive attached to the pc, it contains all my media, and I used it as a server to access multimedia files on wireless lan. I now have it connected to the IMac, as the pc is now seldom used
Problem is, my Macbook air can't see this usb shared drive on IMac and I can't figure out why, either as guest or as registered user with admin permissions. The fw800 external disk is seen.

I need some advice, I have a wireless printer that I would like to share using my home network but Im not sure what would be the best way to do this, since I have never done anything like this before. What I have is a wireless printer(HP), a MacBook (wirelessly connected), a MacMini (wired connected), a PC laptop (wirelessly connected) and a linksys router. Is there a way to share this through my router or do I need to install the printer in one of the machines and then share the print? What would be my best alternative to share this printer?

My iMac (running Snowleopard) can't acces any share in my network. It consists of a NAS (DS209) and a mediatank (popcorn hour C-200). I have defined shares on the NAS and a share on the mediatank.
In Finder I see both the mediatank and the NAS. Both are connected according to Finder (resp. user=admin and user=nmt). However when I try to access a share on the NAS or the mediatank via Finder, I get an error-message:
"The operation cant be completed because the original item for XXXX cant be found."
Also I can't Time Machine get working using a specific share on the NAS. Time Machine recognizes the share, but when I select the share I get an error message OSerror 13.
