Windows On Mac :: Setting Up Parallels On Windows Network?

Sep 4, 2009

I've just ordered a Mac for work, which I'll be adding to a PC-based network all running under Windows Small Business Server. I know I can add the Mac ok, but I just wondered what will happen when I then add Parallels. If the Mac is properly set up and attached to a domain, will the "Virtual Windows" machine by definition be part of the same network and work ok, or is it better to think of the virtual machine as a completely new entity in the network?

Perhaps it'll all become blindingly obvious when I start, but I just wondered if there was anything I need to know so I go into this with my admittedly non-techie eyes open!

I am using Vista 64 SP2 and just upgraded the Mac to Snow Leopard.

OS X :: Can't See Windows PCs On Network

Oct 1, 2009

I can't seem to figure out how to get my Macbook Pro to see my Windows PCs on my network. All of my computers are in the same workgroup (WORKGROUP) and both of my Windows computers (Vista and Windows 7) can see my MBP and they can both connect to it/access files/etc. I just can't seem to get my MBP to see the Windows PCs. They don't show up under Shared in the finder. However, I can connect to both Windows PCs from the MBP by using Finder to 'connect to server' through SMB://. Any idea on what I'm doing wrong?

OS X :: Better To Network With Mac - Windows Vista Or XP?

Nov 6, 2010

I just bought a Macbook Air, my first Mac! After a couple days figuring out how to navigate I am starting to get the hang of it. I want to network with my old Laptop PC to be able to see some files that I plan on keeping there. My question is this: Is it easier to set up a home network with Vista or XP?

I have Vista on my PC right now(and I've tried a few online guides to view my files but I can't get it to work) but I also have a copy of XP. I was thinking of wiping my hard drive on the PC and installing XP instead.

Windows On Mac :: Accessing 7 On Same Network

Jan 16, 2009

I've been struggling all week trying to share a drive out from a mac and mount it remotely onto a windows 7 machine. Also I haven't been able to see any of my macs in the network in windows explorer on the windows 7 machine.

I found this somewhere else on the web so can't take the credit, but it works for me and I can see my whole network, macs, windows and shared folders from either, all on windows 7 now.

OS X :: Can't Connect To Windows Network

Feb 23, 2009

I'm a mac noob. Actually I'm pretty technologically challenged full stop. But I got a mac about a month ago. There's not problem connecting to the internet, it picked it up straight away. However I live in a house full of windows computers which are all wirelessly networked. Sometimes I can connect to them (for no rhyme or reason) and sometimes I can't. I don't particularly care that I can't reach them but I need to be able to connect to my printer. I just plugged my printer straight in the USB and it worked so they're compatible. But my network and computers aren't in the side bar of the finder at the moment. I try clicking "go" and then "connect to server" but I have no idea what my server address is. Is it my IP address or what? as I said I'm technologically challenged.

OS X :: Mac Can't Find Windows PC On Network

Jan 2, 2010

I just got my first Mac and I am trying to integrate it into my home network with a number of Windows PCs. I have turned on sharing on the Mac and on all of the PCs.

The Mac finds the router and connects to the internet with no problem. The PCs all find the Mac and can access the shared folders.

However, the Mac does not find any of the PCs, and no shared resources show up in the Finder Sidebar.

OS X :: Copying Files Over The Network To A Windows PC?

Dec 15, 2010

I have 13 files totalling about 4.5GB on my new MBP that I've tried to copy over the network to my Windows PC. The actual copy process itself indicates that all 4.5GB of data has been copied across, but on the Windows PC only 6 of the 13 files actually appear, so somewhere in the process the other 7 files have been 'lost'. Has anyone got any idea what could be going on here and how and where the other files have vanished to even though the MBP indicates the data has been copied over?

Windows On Mac :: Network Lost In Vista After Afk?

Feb 28, 2009

I have a 2.8GHz alu iMac running vista 32-bit through the latest version of bootcamp. All the latest drivers updates etc. are installed.

Today I was downloading a torrent using μTorrent. After I started it I left the computer running, my connection was fine at that point, as it usually is. When I came back (it didn't go to sleep), around 250mb had downloaded but it had since stopped. I saw that I didn't have a connection. I tried searching for networks, but the computer couldn't find any, which is strange since it normally finds around 6-7 networks, including my own. I ran network diagnostics, which told me there might be problem with the computers network adaptor or something, and that I had to connect it and then try again. I had no idea what that means, so I logged off and on to see if that solved the problem, it didn't. I restarted to OSX and my network was fine again. When I restarted again in vista it was still fine, so the problem was gone. I would like to know what exactly went wrong though, and whether it had to do with the torrent or not. I've left the mac running on vista while I was away before, and this has never happened.

Windows On Mac :: Network Connection Not Working With Xp Sp3 On Mp

Aug 2, 2009

So I have a mac pro, sick machine, love it, and want to play some older games, such as half life 2 as the mac port glitces and sucks for me.

So here's my endeavors with Boot camp. Ran the partition and inserted my windows disk.... a note on that. I did not have a xp with SP2 or better so I made one using a program and "slipstreamed" SP3 into it.

I then installed xp. Had a problem thou. When it wanted to start windows for the first time it rebooted and then never went anywhere but a blank screen. I rebooted it manually and it dumped me into windows just fine. No sound, and many other drivers missing. It did not ask me for my Leopard disk like many said it would. So I inserted it and it installed all the missing drivers for me.

However, the network connection did not work. everything else save my numpad seems to work. I have no idea where to start. I have done everything I do on my PC Laptop set up to run fine within windows and the router. I even installed Bootcamp 2.1 as a post said it might be a problem there. IT did say it must be installed prior to SP3 but thats not really possible with my system due to it (SP3) installed with windows prior to reading about the 2.1. I need to connect so I can download files I need to run the games I wish to with this thing, otherwise I wouln't bother.

OS X :: Printing To Windows XP Network Printer Using Mac

Jul 15, 2010

Being the only Mac user in my house -however streamlined it is-, does hold a few problems. I have set up my iMac, and have happily joined my Windows home network, file sharing does work easily and neatly but as I found out the other day, printing from a Mac that is connected to a Windows based network can be very difficult. So for a long time now, I have been trying to set up my iMac (connected via WiFi) so that it prints over my home network. The printer; an EPSON TX100 is connected to the USB port in a Windows XP desktop and I have set up Printer sharing. The desktop is connected to my D-Link G604T.

I have added the printer through System Pref: Print & Fax:+:Windows tab: 'network':'computer':'printer' and have tried using both the Generic Postscript driver and the specified printer driver.

When I go ahead and print, the printer icon appears in the dock and then quickly disappears without a printout. I have replaced the ink and paper but still no luck. I have tried the methods suggested on some other threads, but none have succeeded. I would be happy to provide any extra information and try anything. Networked printing works with all Windows computers in the house including a NEC laptop, so why wont it work with a Mac?

Mac Mini :: Accessing It Over Network With Windows 7?

Apr 10, 2012

I have a Mac Mini with 10.6.x Onec in a while, especially when restart Airport Extreme for upgrade or something else (both are connected with ethernet cable cat5e) ALL PC's on the network having problem accessing Mac Mini Server while All MACs are fine and can access all folders no problem. Usually takes about 3-4 min for PC to connect to server. Then  once it is connected (it loads all folder and files in that current window on the PC) i can go from folder to folder with no delays. However if i close the window with all folders then again i have to wait for around 3 min. to load everything all over again. AFP and SMB are ON. Today i made an experiment and turned SMB off and the problem still excist with the difference that after 3-4 min delay no folders were shown.

It seems that the PCs have hard time establishing connection with the server which is weird that Macs don't have that problem. It must be something with the setting of Mac MIni. Other wise i have no problem accessing Internet so the routher is working fine. DHCP is ON on the AP Extreme.

Windows On Mac :: Finding Network Drivers For Vista 32-bit?

Jul 15, 2009

I tried to install Vista business edition 32-bit (without SP1) on my Unibody Macbook Pro (late 2008 model). After that, I installed

1) Bootcamp 2.0 from a retail Leopard DVD and its upgraded version (2.1)
2) nForce 730i driver (from NVIDIA web site)
3) Geforce 9000M series graphics card driver (from NVIDIA web site)

Currently there are still several driver issues:

1) "Network Controller" driver is not working.
2) "Apple iSight" driver is not working.
3) No wireless device shown up in my device manager.
4) No sound.

I don't have my original MacOSX DVD with me. Does anybody know how to fix those problems?
