MacBook Pro :: Cannot Copy Files From My System To Any USB Device?
Dec 11, 2010
i never had this problem before until today. I want to copy a movie from my computer to USB and it does not work-I press copy item and then when i want to paste it, it does not even show paste the item, only eject, get info, view, arrange by, show view options. What could be the problem? I tried several USBs and in none of them i could copy the files.
Ive "NetPresenz 4.1" installed on Power Macintosh 8100/80AV Mac OS 9.1 to connect to MacBook Pro Mac OS X 10.7.3using Firefox plugin FireFTP -to share everything vice versa. (This is the only way that I know to transfer files between these to Systems! I'm right)
When FTP files (Docs & Apps) from OS X 10.7.3 to OS 9.1 in both modes Binary & ASCII, the OS 9.1 receive them as a generic file and cannot be recognized! Some of the applications, like installers, do not have extension. But when burring them on CD through OS X 10.7.3, and insert the CD into OS 9.1 it does recognize them.
I think I have found a flaw in OSX 10.6.4 file copying..I normall back up my files, by dragging from a folder on my HD to an identical folder on my external HD.The folder I am copying has 86 files in it, but there are only about two dozen new files added since my last back up.I have been telling it by the dialogue box, not to replace identical files in the back up folder, and clicking the check box to apply to all."but when I press the dont copy button, in the copy progress box it says it is copying 86 files. WTF is going on...!@#$%^&*().
I have had several issues with the USB on my brand-new Core i5 macbook pro. It randomly disconnects USB devices. I've had the issue with multiple USB devices - same story with each one. Further, iTunes will only recognize my iPhone if it is in the port nearest the magsafe connector. The other port fails to recognize my iPhone entirely. Anyone else having a USB issue on their base 15" that was released today?
Furthermore, any suggestions of what to do about it? I'm having a hell of a time restoring my iPhone with this issue... And the Apple Store is over an hour away-I planned a special trip to buy this laptop.
If I install Microsoft office on my mac air 2gb 64mb, will it slow my system down? I also have a macbook pro that i dont take out the house with Microsoft office already installed. Am I best to install Pages on the mac air or will it cause compatibility issues when working on files between the two devices?Â

I upgraded it from 250GB to a 500GB 7200RPM WD Scorpio Black. However the noise was definitely noticeable for me and I have changed it back to the 250 5400RPM GB Seagate Momentus. Sucks to have lost the money
Now the thing is I need 500 GB and I want it to be a internal hard disk. I was thinking about buying 500 GB 5400RPM Scorpio Blue or a Seagate 5400RPM Momentus. Not decided yet(any recommendation?). The problem is though I want to begin using my system. I want to install programs etc. Is there an easy way to copy the whole system to the new hard drive when it arrives?
I have another (windows) pc with an external NFTS disk.
So I burned a bunch of DVDs back in 2007 on my old Windows Laptop. Now I need these files again and I started copying the files form the DVD to my MacBook Pro. Unfortunately it tells me it takes about an hour to copy the 4.7GB on to the Hard Disk. Is that normal? I checked several DVDs that I burned back in 2007 and they all say it takes at least an hour. I tried to stream a 700MB movie from the DVD... didn't work... too slow. I just turned on my old Windows laptop where I burned the DVDs from and there it works without a problem. Movies streams straight away and if I copy all the files it takes about 10-20 minutes. So what's the deal with the built in DVD drive of my MacBook Pro? I need to copy content of 10 DVDs onto my MacBook and I don't really feel like waiting 10 hours
I want to copy my iPhoto library to an external drive but I cannot find the folder on my Mac Air. When I open Finder there is no Picture folder showing so I cannot find the iPhoto library.

I am loving my new MBP to death but still grinding my teeth about some of the transitions to the Mac world... Two questions - I can click on my Bootcamp partition and see the files - why can't I copy and paste files between the two partitions? How do people do this? I am running OS X and Windows 7 in either partition - both 64 bit.
Ok - simple file management here that is driving me crazy... Copying a big directory as an over-write to another directory - and it gives me the "do you want to replace this directory" message... I click no - and am amazed to discover that anything new in that directory is NOT copied over. Is there any way - other than just replacing EVERYTHING - to copy a directory over when you just want to add every new file no matter what directory it is in ??? This would be a non-issue in Win 7
I have to send my Mac Book Air to technical service. They told me they cannot guarantee to save the data in the computer so I should save all my data. I cannot pass all the pictures and files to a hard disk. How do I do this?
I've had my Air for a couple of months now and very happy with it. However I've noticed if I copy a large about of data to it, lets say around 2gb from a USB or network drive it grinds to a halt. It would start off saying 10 minutes to copy, then get to about 800mb and slow down to about 24 hours to copy.
I got a Mac Book Pro Intel Core 2 10.5.8 from this morning I cannot drag and drop any files, I cannot copy or paste anything, anywhere. I've tried to fix permission, and disk but everything was worthless?
I would like to copy the data I have in my time machine to another external HD so that I have two backups; one I can store offsight and one I can have connected to my computer. Can this be done and if so, how does one do it?

I have had both my MacBook and external hard drive for over three years now, and have never had a problem. In the last week, my external hard drive stopped letting me copy files onto it. When you try to drag and drop it just comes up with the blocked symbol. I have tested this with other hard drives as well and keep getting the same error. I've read other forums where it seems the answer is just to reformat the hard drive to the correct format, but I've never had a problem before so it seems strange that the format would just suddenly change.Â
I have an external HD where I back up data from other Window laptop. when I connect this HD to Macbook, it is available as read only. I cannot copy files from my MacBook Hard disk to the external HD.
At transition, I initially want to keep my me.com/mac.com email and then (later) seamlessly move to Lion and full iCloud. Will this be possible and if so, can anyone see necessary tweaking to ensure that my retained me.com email will continue to forward or receive from external email accounts? Â
Accessing the URL me.com/move is not possible- browser redirects me to Find My iPhone. When I attempt to enter my legacy MobileMe address in the iCloud System Preference panel, I am prevented because it is taken despite the fact it is assigned to me. Infinite Loop of frustration: being constantly redirected by support documents to a page that does not exist. My me.com email address is verified in my Apple ID settings page.
