MacBook Pro :: Copy System To New Hard Drive?

I just upgraded my HD on my new MBP13.
I upgraded it from 250GB to a 500GB 7200RPM WD Scorpio Black. However the noise was definitely noticeable for me and I have changed it back to the 250 5400RPM GB Seagate Momentus. Sucks to have lost the money
Now the thing is I need 500 GB and I want it to be a internal hard disk. I was thinking about buying 500 GB 5400RPM Scorpio Blue or a Seagate 5400RPM Momentus. Not decided yet(any recommendation?).
The problem is though I want to begin using my system. I want to install programs etc. Is there an easy way to copy the whole system to the new hard drive when it arrives?
I have another (windows) pc with an external NFTS disk.

with cloning/copying the content one an external hard drive onto a new external hard drive. Basically, I have a 500GB FW400 drive which I use to store my media files. It's full, so I purchased a 1TB FW800 drive to replace it. Obviously, I thought I could simply copy and paste the media files from the old drive to the new one.I cannot copy the media files to my internal drive first as my internal drive is only 250GB and nearly full itself.I have used Disk Utility to attempt to close the old drive to the new drive, but keep getting "insufficient space" errors.

My internal hard drive is running out of space, and I want to buy a new one. But to do that, I'll have to buy a external hard drive to back up everything and then copy it back onto the new internal hard drive , right? I don't have that much budget. So can I use the old internal hard drive that I took out of my Macbook and copy everthing back into the new internal hard drive after the repalecment? so I don't need to buy a external hard drive to back up everythingÂ

I have had both my MacBook and external hard drive for over three years now, and have never had a problem. In the last week, my external hard drive stopped letting me copy files onto it. When you try to drag and drop it just comes up with the blocked symbol. I have tested this with other hard drives as well and keep getting the same error. I've read other forums where it seems the answer is just to reformat the hard drive to the correct format, but I've never had a problem before so it seems strange that the format would just suddenly change.Â

I'm trying to put a 10gb sized video onto my hard drive but it won't allow me. I don't want to format it for 2 reasons.
1) i don't have space to back up and
2) the purpose of putting it on the hard drive is so I can watch the video through my blu ray player's usb port.
in disk utility, if i erase and use a volume format other than ms-dos (fat), the blu ray player doesn't pick p on the drive.

I got my mini for BB yesterday.
The new Mac mini is indeed quite as dead! Love it so far.
Only thing is that, it's a bit slower compares to my Mac pro. It's expected. So I need upgrade some memory and harddisk I think.
I am thinking if I can buy a new HDD, put it into USB enclosure and duplicate OS over and then swap using Disk Utility booted from DVDROM, is it possible? I hate re-install OS. Anyone did this before that can confirm it's doable over USB?

My MacBook is Tiger 10.4.11, all my software is up to date and I use the Mac in a pretty vanilla way.
My question is about the Mac's DVD software: I'd like to be able to make copies of a (non-commercial) DVD. Can I copy it to my hard drive and then burn copies? Would they be readable on a DVD player as well as a computer?

I'm about to go buy a MBP from a local store. The thing is, today I placed an order for 4GB RAM and a 7200RPM drive, which will get here in 2-3 days time.
I really don't want to open the box tonight and start messing around with it if it won't even save because once I install the new HDD a few days later it will install over. But at the same time I know I won't be able to not!
I don't know what I can really do about it. Please tell me Macs have some cool utility to clone a drive, shutdown, unlplug drive, plug new drive in, during boot it will apply clone?

I replaced my internal hard drive on my iMac and I am trying to restore the files from my old internal hard drive. I purchased an external hard drive enclosure and when I plug my old internal hard drive into my iMac via USB, I can access all of the files.
I want to have access to the files from the old drive without leaving it plugged into the iMac (I want to use the old HD as an external back up for another computer (PC).
I did a clean instal of Snow Leopard on the new internal hard drive and did not have time machine back ups (I do now).
I have another external hard drive used as back up with Time Machine in my iMac
I downloaded SuerDuper! and Carbon Copy Cloner but neither will allow me to copy the old hard drive to my new internal hard drive. I was reading in the SuperDuper! instructions about "Sparse" image, but not sure if that is the best way to go.
I also thought of just copying the old internal HD to my existing external HD, but there is not enough available space.

I've just ordered a new iMac to replace an older MacBook Pro. My pro has all the applications on it that I use and I'd like to just duplicate that onto the new iMac.
Both are running the same version of Snow Leopard. Is there an easy way to copy these over? I remember an Apple store employee telling me you could image or copy one hard drive directly to the other so you don't have to reinstall everything.
Can anyone tell me how to do this? I'm not a mac expert so this is completely new to me.

I've just got a new external HD, but it's not being recognised by Mac OS X (10.5.7). I assumed it was because it was in a Windows format, so booted Windows, but it then turned out it wasn't formatted at all. What is the easiest way to make this an HFS+ (the Mac OS extended format), and how do I do it as I can't see it anywhere on the Mac (including Disk Utility)?

I had a hard drive failure in my Powerbook. I had "copied" ,not "backed up" with backup software, the entire contents of the hard drive to an external one. So i installed a new drive, installed OSX from the cd onto it in a smaller partition. Started up, copied the entire contents off the external drive onto the larger part of the partition. My thoughts were to keep the newly "installed" OSX software/system separate from the "copied" OSX software/system by partitioning it. What i wanted in the end was to be able to boot from my "copied" system and be back where I was a month ago, and disable/trash/whatnot the "installed" system that was just to get it up and going. I'm running 10.4.11 on the G4 1.67 Powerbook. So, how can I boot from the original hard drive contents? It doesn't recognize or give a choice for the copied hard drive contents with the copied system and all, just the "new" installed system.

I tried searching for info about this, but didn't come up with anything. My company just purchased me a new macbook pro, the 2.26 stock model. I recently bought a 500GB 7200rpm drive, so when the new machine arrived I just swapped out the stock drive with my 500GB. The 500GB has a relatively fresh install of Snow Leopard. Everything is running pretty well, although I feel like I'm seeing a little more sluggishness in some apps (Aperture, for one) than I expected. It's pretty impressive that an OSX boot disk can boot any mac, but I wonder if there's anything I ought to do�preference files I should delete, for example�to make sure that the OS and the new mac are in sync.

I have an PowerMac G4 with an old Fantom 120GB external drive which is nearly full. I have purchased a Fantom Drive High Speed USB 2.0 (750GB.) Macbook pro 13' running 10.5.8 has intermittent issues with usb 2.0 mass storage drives but not jump drives. Here is the issue, my gf just got a brand new mac book pro 13'. This is great for her no more asking to use my unibody macbook. She plugs in the drive I have used for a very long time with my mac my pac etc. with not a hint of issue. The drive shows up copy's stuff off ok. However when it came time to return the data back to the drive it gets about 10% through and just hangs. Here is what I have done. I first thought ok might need a reboot. Then I went with the ok I will check her disk for issues. This is a 3 day old mac book by the way. I found random permissions errors with quick time which has never been run. After the fix the issue goes away for that boot.
The issues seems to come back after a re-boot or so. I go ok enough of this I format the mac with the system disk, then I update to the latest updates from apple. Plug in the drive and still having issues. Run the permissions repair same issues exactly format to format. I have also run the deep test off the system disk the machine checks out through that so I have ruled out ram on her system as a possible culprit. I am at a loss on this machine. I have gone so far as to format the external drive replace the data from my network server and try that. Still no luck. On my box there is no issue it time machines great it copy's data like a usb 2.0 drive should.

I got a 2007 white MacBook, and I only have about 4GB HD space left. And that's after I did some emergency clearing out. It's obvious I need a new one, or to clear out more. I'm thinking both.I just got the free version of CleanMyMac, is that a good program to clear my HD out with?And, if I only want a drive that's 200GB-300GB, how much will a reliable one run me? I've seen 1TB drives for ?70, but I'm not sure if they're the right size for the MB.

My MacBook Pro (15-inch Core 2 Duo) no longer recognizes it's hard drive. Placing a different hard drive doesn't work.
It won't boot off the system DVD.
It does power up, but all I get is the gray screen with the flashing question mark.
