I am running OSX 10.9.3 on a 3GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 12GB RAM, and itunes 11.2.2 (3) 64 Bit. My itunes library is large (approx 1 TB) and contains mostly ripped CDs, vinyl and ripped DVDs and BluRays. I usually add media using the File/Add to Library command. This set up has been reliable for a couple of years at least.
At time of writing itunes will still happily add music files, but is no longer happy to add movie files. I get a message telling me that the disk which contains my itunes library (I use a 2TB external HD) cannot be written to or read from. Clearly this isn't true as I can write music files to it.
I tried disk repair in the disk utility and it tells me the drive is healthy. I thought maybe there is a maximum itunes library size. As a check I tried starting a completely new itunes library on a different external drive and the problem persists.
I have >500GB spare space on the drive containing my itunes library. All my drives are formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) so should not suffer any file size limitation.
I have one, perhaps two or more problems here. I need more info to even know, but I have a few hundred songs imported from my CD collection into my macbook pro itunes application.
I now also have an ipad-1 which I inherited from my wife. It makes me wait 90 days to sync from the cloud my "purchased" music, but, putting that aside, what about my songs I purchased outside of itunes and imported into itunes? I don't seem to be able to copy and paste them into my ipad when it is connected to my macbook.
I have had several movies that I have rented on my Macbook Air and then transfer to my Ipad...they just disapear when I go back a couple of days later...not an expiration issue as it is within the 30 days..
I am currently relaxing on the nice Beach of jamaica and have rent a movie from my German iTunes store. After clicking "Rent" and confirming the movie is not appearing under the "Download" Tab in iTunes neither in the Library.
I rented a movie in iTunes and using the movies tab of my iPad, I clicked "Move" to move the movie over to the iPad. WHen I sync the device, it goes through the motions and after finishing, it moves the movie back over the iTunes side of the display. Effectively, not transferring the rented movie.I tried this same thing on my iPhone and got the same result.I'm using the latest version of iTunes and the iOS 5.1 on both the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4.
I have already rented several HD movies straight to my iPad (1) and never had a problem. Tonight however I decided to try a new thing and insted of renting straight to the iPad I tried to rent it in iMac first (iTunes) and than move it to the iPad (thought the download could be quicker and was right: it took some 15min to download an HD movie with the iMac when it normaly takes some 45min with the iPad on the same network).
The problem is, when I try to move the movie into the iPad and click "Apply", I get the message saying that "This movie can not play on this iPad".... I tried to do it directkly on the iPad (and paid for the movie again...) and it downloaded just fine... (though it took 45 minutes).
I rented a movie on iTunes via my iPad.It loaded properly. I hit play and Air Play so it would connect to my Apple TV. I can now HEAR the movie, but I cannot see it (having said that, I see the movie, still, on my iPad screen....). Apple TV and AirPlay work fine with youtube videos and previously bought movies.
Just paid for a movie on iTunes, (The Great Escape), but it won't play on my iMac or transfer to my iPad... what gives? When I try to play the movie I get error: "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes."When I try to move it to my iPad I get the error: "The Great Escape (1963)" was not copied to the iPad (My iPad) because it cannot be played on this iPad." I have iTunes 10.6.1 (7) 64-bit on a brand new iMac 2.7 Ghz Intel Core i5 with OSX 10.7.4. I'm a little ticked that I can't see a movie I just paid $9.99 for.
When importing songs into iTunes, the software by default is set to copy the music files to the iTunes media folder and convert them to .m4a format. This, of course, results in having two copies of each song after the import is done. Before I disable this option I'd like to know what you think are the pros and cons of having this option enabled/disabled.
I have an iPad that is synced to my home computer (iMac). I am currently in my second home and wish to move some files back and forth between my second iMac and iPad. I do NOT wish to sync them as this erases all the work I have done on files at my first home. The app I am mostly concerned with is called Songbook. My second iMac does not allow file sharing and I'm guessing because it needs to sync first. Not gonna happen. So am I out of luck or is there some way to move files back and forth? I really would like to do this as the edit function on the iMac is much better than using the Songbook app and keyboard.
When I import an mp4 or similar file format into iTunes, it gets automatically sorted into either Movies, TV Shows or Podcasts folder in my library. What's the criteria for this? and how can I change it from one to the other folder? Most of the times even search won't find the title I'm looking for. Drives me bonkers ...
I have all my TV Shows on an external drive. Sometimes, when I disconnect and then reconnect the external hard drive to my computer I have to drag and drop the files for them to show in my iTunes library and then Apple TV. However, when I drag and drop the TV shows into iTunes, they somehow always seem to default to the Movies folder, I then have to edit them manually for them to only to show in the TV show folder. how I only get these files to appear in the TV show folder and not the movie one?
I own an iPad mini Gen1 with a ton of music, apps etc. from my old computer which broke down recently. I'd like to sync my iPad to my Time Capsule, apps, backups and all without losing any files. I still have access to the old Apple ID. So, how do I sync without deleting everything on it? I already deleted my entire iPod trying to do this.
