I just replaced the screen a my mbp. It booted up, it loaded, it ran for about 1 minute then died. Efforts to resuscitate it have failed. Nothing happens when the power button is pressed, no fans, no drives, Nothing. The battery is freshly charged. I have tried the take the battery out and unplug it, press the power button for 5 seconds, Nothing.
View 2 RepliesI recently bought a new Mac Mini with a 24 inch Philips display. When I connected the display and started up the computer, it booted up and showed the grey apple screen, but it never made it past that. On the screen it reads "cannot display this video mode, change computer display input to 1920x1080@60Hz." As you might have realized, I can't get onto the computer to do so because I cannot see what I am doing. This is extremely frustrating because I had my Mini hooked into my friend's tv and it worked perfectly right away and now I can't even get it to connect. Does anybody know any hotkeys/solutions to this problem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI came home and found an eMac on my back porch, came from my moms friend apparently. so i plugged it in and turned it on and i was playing on it for a while but safari would just repeatedly crash after loading the home page, so i restarted it and it seemed to fix the problem, me and my friend then took the casing off and replaced the cd drive because it was jammed. it started up just fine after that but after the next restart the screen seemed to be "shaking". it was jumping left to right. so i powered it off and started it up again. this time it did the same thing but it was more vigorous and the screen was flashing from normal to a dark purple tint. then it went really dark purple, the screen shut off, then the whole computer shut itself off. now only after leaving it unplugged for at least 30 seconds the first or second push of the power button will "twitch" the fan and the CRT sounds like its trying to come on, but i only get the CRT sound and the fan maybe doing at most a quarter turn before it stops. the only changes made was a new cd drive and a second RAM card. i tried it by pulling out the added ram card and still nothing. then tried with the cd drive IDE cable removed and still nothing.

I am currently getting a gray screen with a folder and question mark. I have tried resetting the PRAM and when I hold down the option key, no drives show up at all. I also can't boot into OS X in safe mode. I don't hear a clicking noise that you usually get from dead hard drives.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently took my MBP in to get the screen replaced due to a screen separation issue. When I got it back it froze every now and then, but it kept continuing. Everytime I restart the computer after a freeze it will freeze up sooner and sooner. At first I thought it was a RAM issue since it particularly did it while watching videos, so I bought new RAM and it continued to freeze. Tested the new and the old RAM, but they were fine. I took it to the Genius Bar and the guy said it was a failing harddrive. Got a new harddrive upgraded to Lion and it is still freezing. I asked if something could have gone wrong when the screen was replaced and he assured me no and even if something had gone wrong they wouldn't cover it unless the actual screen was broken.Â
If I leave the computer off for a day it will take about 30 min before the 1st freeze, then after restart about 15 min, then 10 min, then 5 min until it will only log in then freeze. what could be causing the freezing and if it would be worth fixing as this MBP needs a new battery, a new drive (since the drive is on loan), and has the flickering screen issue?Â

I was riding my motorcycle on new year's eve with my brand new 15" 2.8GHz i7/hi-res matte display/8GB RAM/500GB Momentus XT MacBook Pro in my backpack and crashed into a car at 45mph. My MacBook's unibody was bent badly in the corner where the hard drive resides and crushed the hard drive and superdrive and bent the aluminum LCD panel, but left the LCD screen, battery, RAM, and motherboard untouched. The top and bottom aluminum unibody case/panel are destroyed. So I'm thinking of replacing my hi-res matte LCD assembly (LCD plus aluminum cover) with the standard-res glossy version simply because it's cheaper. Is it possible to swap out the displays like this or will it cause a conflict with other components?

I have installed windows 7 on bootcamp, and currently running max os Lion currently i am having issues accessing the mac os itself. When i turned it on and off or restart it, it always gives me a bootup screen that said Mac OS Utilities, just like the picture in this link : [URL]I tried restarting it several times, it does not boot up my Macbook, to my desktop. I trist the windows it works just fine. Then i tried recovering it 3x, which each takes 6-7 hours to do it. and it still always keep booting up the same thing over and over again.Â
i tried re-installing the OS, but its always giving me message, "this mac os lion is damaged, cannot be installed in this computer" something like that. i've been trying to fix it a day or so, it still wont boot up my Desktop.. I tried restaring it and choosing my disk "Macintosh HD" but it still gives me a recover screen. I also tried pressing the option key then choose my disk, and it still doing the same thing.Â

I recently got a 750 GB WD 'My Passport' external backup drive (the USB3 version) and every time I plug it in, my MacBook Pro starts the spotlight process and then within 5 seconds kicks the drive off!
Then, it gives me the lecture dialogue of dismounting the drive correctly (via Finder for example), not to just pull the drive out of the USB port!

I'm booted on a MacBook Pro from an external drive, and I want to erase the drive inside the MacBook using Disk Utility from the external. For some reason or another, it won't let me do this. When I click on the Erase tab (whether clicked on the disk itself or the volume "Macintosh HD") and try to erase it, it returns with the error:

Disk Erase failed with the error: Could not unmount disk.
When I try to install an image onto the drive, I get a similar error, except it says "Operation not permitted." When I tried it while booted with an OS X DVD, it worked fine. As far as I know, I should be able to do this while booted from the external HD.
I purchased what I thought was an identical replacement screen used for my ibook G4 1.2 ghz. When attempting to install myself, I started to hook the new screen in and noticed I have what I believe is to be 2 power connectors (the connectors with the round pencil lead size connector) where the old screen only had 1. The data connectors were identical.
Do I have the wrong screen, do I use only 1.
I have an old iBook G4 14" (from about 2004 or 2005) that was just replaced by a MacBook. The hinge on the screen is pretty much broken and the screen looks pretty terrible. I'm thinking about installing a distro of Linux on it and using it as a file server or media server and connecting it to an external display, but I would like to have the keyboard and mouse readily available and would not like to have issues with overheating because the lid is closed. Is there a way I can completely remove the screen (including the hinge) and have it still be functional?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Powerbook G4 off of Clist. The previous owner replaced the screen with a higher resolution screen from a newer Powerbook. The display looks great, except that it doesn't fill the whole screen. There is a long group of colored lines on the right side, and the bottom starts to show the top of the display (it looks almost tiled and shows the screen again on the bottom). I'm guessing that this is just a formatting issue, but I'm not sure how to correct it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the 27'" Imac with slight yellow tint on bottom and grey bar shadow running along the bottom as well. Additionally, the buzzing sound when brightness lowered below 50%. The computer works great otherwise and I don't hear buzzing when at normal distance from screen. My dilemma: Apple has offered to send a technician to my home to replace the screen, and they said that whould also fix the buzzing noise at lower brightness at the same time.
My question is have people been satisified or had better luck with screen replacements rather than simply asking for a new computer in exchange. If I'm simply swapping displays to get the same results, or even exchanging computer to only get the same results or worse, I would rather delay this interaction until a real fix is in place. My current Imac has no dead pixels, and works great except for these issues. HD makes a grumbling noise, but I think WD Black Caviars are known to be a bit noisy.
Any advice on way to go would be appreciated. Swap out display? Exchange computer? Stand pat?
i bought a 13" Macbook Pro (mid 2009) last week and i bought the 2gb/160gb moel. I have upgraded the memory to 4gb and today my 2.5" sata Western Digital Scorpio Blue (500gb) arrived, i followed the steps and replaced the hard disk, however when i turn the machine on i just get a blank white screen, i inserted the Install disk that came with it and i was instructed by the apple staff to hold the c button to book the disk, this doesn't seem to work, also i cant eject the disc either and i have tried holding down the trackpad while starting up.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a 2008 17" Macbook Pro A1261. The other day I was working on battery life and noticed it was about to drain, so I plugged in my adapter. The adapter was not lighting up and I assumed that it had just stopped working. My Macbook is completely dead at this point. I bought another adapter (the newer L shaped ones) and when I plug it in the light comes on green but does not change colour to amber. When I try to power my mac on it does not come on with the battery in or removed.Â
I have tried an SMC reset, holding shift, etc. and nothing has worked thus far. My issue is that how can my macbook all of a sudden just "die" when it was working PERFECTLY fine before the battery drained? I assumed buying another adapter would fix the issue.
Could this simply be because my macbook does not yet have the firmware installed for the new L shaped adapter? If so what steps can I take to install the firmware? I know it is not the magsafe adapter because I have tried two others with no luck.Â

I just received my MBP back from AppleCare. Its about 1 year, 3 months old. The display died, and they replaced part# 605-1211. It states on the Service Details: Parts Used: 605-1211 SCV, PCBA, MLB, 2.2GHZ I take it MLB stands for Main Logic Board? What does SCV and PCBA mean? Also, the repair center scratched the bottom of my MBP.

After 4 years of brave use, the internal HD on my Macbook Pro has died. I'm now looking for a new one to install it myself. It's a first generation Macbook Pro (1.83Ghz - A1150). From a first google search I found this option a pretty decent one: [URL:...] Any feedback on this particular item? Is the site reliable? Also, regarding the installation of the drive itsef: I've seen some guides on how to install it and they seem a little hard to accomplish. My experience with this kind of procedure so far is related to installing ram, which seems to be really easier.
